  1. I have had lap band since December, what I notice is I eat a lot of the same foods as before, just smaller portions. And I do avoid the avoidables like bread, Pasta, etc. But I eat candy, and nachos (a slider food for me.) I can't wake up and just eat a protien shake then go to work. I want food! Has anyone else beat this battle? It's all a mental thing, what do you say to yourself to eat better. And I don't know how to eat better, I never have. Ate crappy foods my whole childhhood and then as an adult. What's a simple change to start? Like cut out chocolate bars and eat .... Or cut out chips and eat.... IDK. Any ideas? Any good food I might like? Thanks Tab.

Help, I Can't Win The Food Fight Mentallly.

I feel like if I eat junkie food or food I used to eat I win. But if I eat healthy foods like fruits or vegetables or other 'foreign' foods then I lose. I have not been able to shift this in my head. It's like I'm secretly victorious by eating crap, which I KNOW IS WRONG! I think if anyone else feels this way they would get what I'm saying. I appreciate everyones responses, it helps to have support and some different mindsets. And the good food ideas, new things for me to try.

    Restaurants

I recently went to a friends wedding dinner, the meal cost me 35$ and I only ate 4 bites of it! I was told by a friend that she knew someone (you know how that goes) who had a card from her surgeon that said she had weight loss surgery so she could order off the kids menu. Has anyone heard of that? i don't eat out a lot, and usually my daughter will just give me a few bites of her meal and I'm fine. But I wonder what other people do when they eat out. I dont want to just order soup and salad every time, I want meat! It's bad enough I eat so little everyone insists on staring at me and asking how I could be full already (people who KNOW i've had the surgery.) Thanks!

    Restaurants

Thanks everybody. I found the spot on lapband.com, but needed a code from my doctor I didn't have. So I just called my surgeon office, they said they would give me one at my next fill, and they did. I haven't used it yet, but it's nice to have it.

on lapband.com dashboard about halfway down is My Lapband Journey Tools. On the right column is "Get your lapband personalized ID card."

    Alcohol?

I only waited a few weeks, and drink when I want to. I only drink once every month or two, but if I want to I will. I just read a whole other blog about 'cheating' on your diet, and it's not a diet, its a way of life, so I am not going to not enjoy myself. I drink in moderation, and if I want to- I will and I do. It wont add extra weight in the long run as long as you're doing everything else right. Just go slow at first until you figure out what your tolerance level is.

    Your special 'cheat' day

Hmm, I realize this is an older thread, I just have been wondering if people take a day a week off or something silimar. I'm glad I ran into this though, it makes me realize I dont have to take a day off, because it's not a diet. I recently took a day where I decided I was just gonna eat. I still logged everything; took the bag of chips and counted out 2 servings and logged it, etc. The biggest thing I took away from that was that yes, I can still eat 2-3000 calories a day if I want to- it proved to me that this isn't all about just having a band placed in your stomach, you still have to work for it- despite what outsiders think. Apparently I could eat 2-3000 calories every day if I wanted to. But I choose not to, yes I CHOOSE not to! What a great feeling. My average daily intake for the last two weeks, including my big eating day is 841 calories, so I'm happy with that! It's not easy, I needed that day. But now I see maybe I should not take a whole day, just eat something I like that may not be 'band approved' once in a while. Thanks guys!

Suggestions For A Person Who Works Graveyard Shift

I said this in a previous post, so this might be redundant, but I bring some of the 100 calorie snacks that you buy at the grocery store. I know there are healthier choices, but I dont have guilt about eating 2 of 3 of those a night as a 'snack'. Plus my protein drink. So I'm still only up to 800-1100 calories a day. Plus I pack a lunch of dinner left overs from home. You can still snack, and you probably will snack anyways, so just pack better choices. There's all sorts of those 100 calorie snacks in the cracker aisle, plus by the granola bar section there's a bunch more choices. Snack away! LOL. (within reason, I guess I should say.)

    Any Night Shifters Out There?

I have started packing the 100 calorie snacks. I drink my protein around 8pm, then i allow myself a few of the 100 calorie snacks (the pre-packaged type.) I use Mio in my water, no more soda or caffiene. I have actually found since i cut out caffiene I dont need it, and I dont have the highs and lows associated with it. I have no problems staying awake and i was a 6 cans of Mt Dew/night kind of girl. Sometimes I do head to the kitchen around 6am for some scrambled eggs, if I'm starving. But I figure i go right to bed after work, so if i'm hungry I'll just go to sleep and it won't matter. I do usually pack a "lunch" also, which is left overs from whatever dinner was at home. We're lucky because our facility has a little gym, so if i get really bored at night i go do a mile on the treadmill, that will wake you up and help you feel more energetic. Good luck to you!

    Fitbit

I added everyone whose fitbit site was listed here. The only thing i don't like is I guess mine doesn't sync up at work. and I work overnights, so it looks like i haven't done anything when i have. I guess i will always be a day behind. Oh well.

    Fitbit

Did you find one? I ordered from Best Buy website because they didn't have any in stock, it was defective. So i returned it and ordered from Amazon. But you could always order it from their site. There's no big price difference anywhere because it's so new I guess.

Anyone Get Stuck At Setup For Fitbit With A Mac?

I got mine yesterday, couldn't sync it up for nothing. I did see one trouble shooting option- use a pen or paperclip and push little button on bottom of charging base, it is reset button. Then you have to uninstall and reinstall software on your computer. It worked for mine- we had spent about 6 hours trying to get it to work, pushed that button and it synced right up. Only problem now is it wont charge... so we still may have to take it back.

Finding The Lap Band Green Zone

I love the chart, I have thought I was maybe over-filled, but my significant other disagrees (yes, it is my body I know.) It takes me an hour to two hours to eat 4-6 oz chicken, I usually stop eating d/t discomfort from band, not fullness. I think I should get a little taken out after reading this. I have been pretty miserable since my last fill. Thanks again!

    Fitbit

I got mine today, it won't charge or sync up to computer... Maybe its a bad one. Guess ill have to exchange it and wait for another one to show up. So frustrated!

    Fitbit

I synced mine up between myfitnesspal and fitbit.com with the help of friends on this website. The food you eat does not carry over to fitbit.com, but it breaks down your calories, fat, all those thing you want to look at, just not the specific foods you ate. I entered food on myfitnesspal and went directly to fitbit.com and it was already there, so once you've linked your accounts, it's apparently automatic.

    Fitbit

Go to fitbit.com. It's like a pedometer, but better.

    Fitbit

I ordered mine from bestbuy, was supposed to be in the store on Sunday. Then I got an email saying it will be delayed. But they already took my money out of my account, i thought places didn't take money until the item is shipped, or at least ready to be shipped. so I can wait it out at Best Buy, or cancel the order and re-pay through somewhere like Amazon. but then I'm out the 100$ while I wait for Best Buy reimbursement. I'm so frustrated. I already convinced my brother (also a lap bander) to get one- he ordered his through Amazon and is up and running. We have a freindly competition going- but can't start until mine shows up. So I'm frustrated and waiting.... So excited to hear everyone's stories about how well they're doing with theirs. so I have high hope. I was thinking about paying for the prime service because it looks like it will look at what you're doing for exercise and recommend a program to gradually increase your exercise over time- that sounds like a challenge I could use. An excuse to stop slacking in the exercise department. I am using myfitnesspal for food and once set up it does automatically sync with fitbit.com. So i'm happy about that. Keep you posted, wish it would arrive! Tabby.

    Fitbit

Ok friends, help me out. I dont like the food input on fitbit.com, so I was using previous suggestions here and logged food into myfitnesspal- I agree, much better site., But how do I get it to sync with fitbit? How do I get my food from myfitnesspal to fitbit.com? Thansk.
  21. tabithainbremerton

    Fitbit

I do agree, the food list is limited. Especially compared to the site I'm used to using. But I'm giving it a try. I'm waiting for my fitbit, so excited, especially after reading here how much everyone likes it. And I'm super excited to see people wanting to get one that maybe woulnd't have before- add me as your friend if you want... tabithainbremerton@yahoo.com. I guess you can have some friendly competition.

    Fitbit

I decided to buy a Fitbit today, after reading the reviews on this site and reviews on Amazon. My big question is which website to use. I went to fitbit.com to log some food- even though it hasn't arrived yet. But I see people use myfitnesspal.com with it too. If you use the myfitnesspal.com does it still give you all the activity and sleep logs? Does anyone use the fitbit.com site and think it will get easier with use? I've always use sparkpeople- so switching sites will be annoying, just trying to figure out which site I should switch too so I only have to make the move once. I wish there was one site where you could log food, exercise, sleep record, fills, weight loss, inches loss, etc. But as of yet can't find one. Have to use lapband.com, sparkpeople.com, now fitbit.com. And this site too. It's a lot of sites to remember! Someone should invent it- they could be rich, LOL. Tabby.

    Biotin In A Capsule

I take Biotin in a capsule, but post-op I would open the capsule and sprinkle over a spoonful of pudding or applesauce. It's not XR or extended release, so it doesn't matter if you open it up.

    Emotions

You're not alone. Reading your post made me cry. I don't know if I"m mourning food loss or what. But I feel like 'what the hell did I get myself into.' My family, of course, eats regular foods, sometimes with the kids we drive through McDonalds, I just roll the window down to air out the smell, and cry. I feel like if you have not had the band you can not understand it. I tell my fiancee- try imaginig you can't drink soda anymore, you can't eat all the fast food you used to love, people EXPECT you to be losing weight fast, I have never felt so abslutely hungry in all my life, etc, etc, etc. I finally told my honey last night "you have no idea how much I cry lately." Maybe it will pass, IDK, but you are not alone!

    Zumba And Lapband

The Curves around where I live have Zumba Curves. You do the machine for one full minute, then zumba in between the machines for one full minute. So it's a 30 minute exercise still, but just one lap around the cycle. It is a blast! And if you can't figure out the moves- just keep wiggling- you're still burning calories. Cause believe me... I have no rhythm. LOL. The YMCA where I live also has Aqua Zumba, it's 45 minute of zumba in the water, about chest deep, it is very good for low impact workout. And good for variety too.
