  1. Good Morning, Vi's~~ Got out of the driveway ok... it took me 6 minutes to go down the worst part of it... I'd just let up on the brake a tiny bit @ a time... The bake sale went well... we made almost $200! Speaking of baking, believe it or not I've got a batch of pumpkin bread in the oven right now! I'm getting my hair cut this afternoon, & I have to take a loaf for my stylist, as I didn't see her over the holidays. Will it never end?? I'm glad you like the book, Judy... did you get the Supermarket one? I LOVE IT & have already made a few easy changes that are more healthful for us! There's an e-mail newsletter you can sign up for, too. Hope your move goes easily, Tracy!! Congrats, Pam!! Gotta dash... make it a great day, everyone!
  2. Good Morn Vi's~~ The kids have a 2-hr delay this a.m.... the driveway is a sheet of ice, but w/a couple bare spots here & there... dh got out ok this a.m.... so I know that I have to, too... yikes! I'm scared poopless, to be honest... I HATE WINTER!! I HAVE to go to school and make copies for today's Parent Folders... + it's the PTA Bake Sale @ the Winter Band & Chorus Concert tonight, so I have to get the waters, ice them down, take them & get it all set up... blah dee blah... The point is -- I HAVE to go out!! I really wish I didn't!! Make is a good & SAFE day, Vi's!
  3. Good Morn, Vi's~~ Another day off for the kiddos... it's an "ice" day today! All the snow that fell yesterday iced over solid last night... we live on the side of a hill & our driveway goes straight downhill soooo... it could be Spring Thaw before I get out again! (I joke, but just a tad... a few years ago it did take a week before I could get the car out... I had to hike to the main road & my friend met me w/her car & took me to the grocery store... when we returned, the kids met me @ the road w/their sleds & we loaded the bags on the sleds & they dragged them up to the house, "just like the pioneers"! (they didn't get that the poor pioneers didn't have "grocery stores"!) Make it a good day! Keep warm!

Now why does this just not surprise me at all, Dr. Jazzy Bradford??? No, now it's "Councilwoman Dr. Jazzy Bradford!" Yeah, jelly beans are disgusting too!! Marshmellow candy (anything with marshmellow in it) and jelly beans.. and licorice.. YUCK. Me, too, Laura! I hate all that stuff... bleh! Hey... have you guys ever had "microwave fun" w/your peeps? Put 2 on a paper plate, stick a toothpick in each (like it's holding a jousting spear), then nuke them (I forget for how long...), but then they get really big & 1 pokes the other & it explodes! Too much fun! Also, last year the Washington Post did a whole funny contest on Peep diaramas... it was soooo funny what folks sent in! Maybe you could google it & find the article?? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the mini cadbury eggs... not the big ooey gooey ones (gross), but the little ones... mmm mmm mmm This is a baaaad conversation I'm having w/myself! lol! Quote: Originally Posted by kity For me...it is the Peeps! When I die, put chips and salsa, and a thing of Peeps in my casket, k? What about rum balls? & a pitcher of margaritas!! & a picture of US! 'nuff silliness... g'night!
  5. Terri... I like Pam's idea! But one I had was a gift cert for a nice restaurant or maybe overnight @ a B&B or tickets to a show... something like that... a "memory-making" gift...
  6. Whew! Just back in from shoveling the driveway w/the kids. (FYI, our driveway is about .25 mile long!)... fed the birds... goofed around... it's lovely out there... so quiet & peaceful w/the snow all around... Haydee, in our school system, they build in 5 "snow days" into the calendar... if we use all 5, then school ends on the scheduled date; if we use fewer or none, then they adjust the end of the school year to end that amount of days earlier than originally planned; if we use more than 5, then usually they take off days from spring break & other "minor" holidays between now & June, w/adding days to the end of the year as the last resort. Today is the 2nd "snow day" of the year so far, so we've still got 3 "in the bank". Clear as mud? Am going to take a nice hot shower... can't feel all my toesies!... then I HAVE to WORK!!! (I need to keep telling myself that!)
  7. Hey girlies... DD had another coughing/head pounding episode during the night... & then a little one this a.m. already... poor kid... I really do hope the diagnosis is correct this time & that the antib's help... the doc said it could be a few days before dd starts to feel better... frustrating... We're getting the snowfall that was out Janie's way last eve... schools are closed today & I bet tomorrow, too, as tonight it's all supposed to turn to "icy mix"... there's already been several major crashes & road closures here... we're supposed to get 6" & then an "icy crust" on top of that... Other that that... will be "hunkering down" @ home today, working & doing laundry... probably won't clean as the kids tend to mess it up 10 seconds after I finish... Make it a good one, Vi's!
  8. & the Official diagnosis is: sinusitis. A "bad" case. Okay... she doesn't even sound / look / or act "stuffed up"... but there you have it. Put her on more antibiotics & I have to take her back next Tues for a re-check. The doc was very good @ listening to all the symptoms & checking her thoroughly... even made her do some DUI balancing tests, which was funny!... she hasn't had another "pounding headache" since... cross your fingers that the one this a.m. was the LAST one! I was just joshin' you, Laura, about the "fun" that awaits you... this type of thing isn't what folks usually think of when they're all googlie-eyed about having a babe... but you're right... you are certainly getting good practice w/your cat! Ay yai yai! Definitely get the little violet on top, PAM! Thanks, everyone, for the good thoughts & purple power!! LOVE YOU!!
  9. Vision is ok. No spots or stars. Her neck isn't stiff (meningitis). No vomiting. Just this sudden-onset pounding headache that goes away w/in the hour... so weird. gotta love kids!
  10. She's 10. No periods yet (but lots of PMS!)
  11. No and that thought crossed my mind but she's ok now & it's just another hour 'til the doc... if it happens again between now & then, I will. See what fun you have to look forward to, Laura??
  12. Ok girls, now I'm really starting to get freaked out/worried! I kept dd home from school as she said she had a slight headache & still coughing & she'd have been there only a couple hours anyway 'til I had to get her for her doc's appt... ANYWAY... she starts coughing and then starts shrieking in pain that her head is pounding, it feels like it is going to pop off and she's crying & screaming!! I calm her down and it subsides slowly. She wasn't doing anything except laying on the couch coughing. I took her temp & it was 97.5. I gave her a Tylenol & popped her into my bed, where she's now napping (which she never does, she can never sleep in the day). I called the doc's office to see if I could get her in earlier than Noon, but they said no. So I wait. This is the 4th time since Sat that she's had this & it's now officially FREAKIN' ME OUT!
  13. Wait! Pam, you're getting a tattoo?? Of WHAT?! WHERE?! (me? over your heart? -- lol!)
  14. Good Monday Morn, Vi's~~ A regular Monday on the way today... working, laundry, some cleaning, & maybe the HS basketball game this evening for some fun! While driving ds to school this a.m. (he had to take in his saxophone, so didn't want to take the bus) I heard on the radio that today is Michigan's "statehood" day (didn't catch the year it was admitted) & thought of you, Judy! Am taking dd back to the doctor's AGAIN for the 3rd time to try to figure out what's out of whack w/her... she still coughs 'til she barfs, & now she keeps getting lightheaded and also 3 times over the weekend (once while cantering on her horse, and twice in the middle of the night) she gets sudden pounding headaches that make her cry in pain! Something is NOT right! So we're seeing my fav doc in the practice & have a double appointment time so we're not rushed. Am expecting to have to take her for blood work at least, if not more diagnostic tests... that will be my afternoon! Make it a good day, everyone!
  15. Make it a great day, Vi's!
  16. Good Morn (for 6 more minutes, anyway!), V's ~~ Hope everyone is well... you know, in reading the posts lately w/ups & downs in both wt loss and all other issues it strikes me that it's all JUST LIFE! Life is ups & downs, the little things that make us happy & stressed... 2 fries one day... none for several others... it all balances out in the end. I am happy to cheer your successes as I am to offer an ear to listen to your woes... either way... whatever you my friends need at the moment. And no, Tracy, I don't think it's ok to just leave... we may get busy, I mean, there's a reason it's called "real life"... but a quick "Hi I'm ok" may be all one has time for or feels like every now & again. Just MHO... Love you ALL... Hey Mae, where'd you get that pic of PAM!?? Hugs to you all... I LOVE YOU!!! You add spice to my life!!
  17. If 2 fries is a cheat, then what's chips & salsa, a chicken fajita enchilada w/rice, refried beans, 2 margi's & a sopapilla w/van ice cream & 2 cherries on top?? ... ...Not that I personally know anyone who would actually EAT that... heh heh... just wonderin'... :scared2:
  18. Good Morn, Vi's~~ Busy day planned, so wanted to pop in now while I had a chance so you didn't send out the flying monkeys -- again!! Have a meeting here @ 9am re: the ES yearbook (oh yeah, did I mention I'm creating that -- in my SPARE time?? :tt2:), then errands, ending up @ lunch w/my BFF since 5th grade which will be nice to see her. Then home & WORK, etc... Make it a good one, my sweet Vi's!
  19. She's ok... thought it was funny... he didn't come right out & call her a "cow", but made some really obtuse remark that she didn't even get 'til later... ha ha on him! 7:14pm & I've done great w/eating & h20 today... can I make it or will I dive-bomb into a bowl of ice cream or other stupid choice?? I *think* I will make it tonight!! Phew!
  20. mmmmmmmmmmm... that sounds gooood, Tracy! ooh la la! I'm now in my "danger zone" part of the day... the time when the kids get home & I start to eat... & eat... & eat... just had 1 oz of vanilla bean almonds... hope that helps! I got a call from dd's vice principal today regarding an "incident" @ lunch... a boy called dd a "cow"... so the principal, guidance counselor, teacher had an "investigation" and also a "counseling session" about it... she said dd was upset but ok... sheesh, where were all these concerned adults when I was in 6th grade being called "Boom Boom" on a daily basis??... but it's what they do nowadays... so I'm waiting for her to arrive home so we can chat about it... she isn't FAT per se... but she's not skinny, either... I so feel her pain!!! I really wanted for her not to have weight issues... it pains me. Here she is! BBL!!
  21. Awww ((Haydee)). Am feeling very productive today, working my way through my lists... yay! Eating is good. Drinking (h20) is good. Why can't I behave like this *every* day?? Off to run a few errands... the most important of which is to get my 'brows waxed... think Brooke Shields' eyebrows on steriods!
  22. Good Morning, Vi's~~ Kids are finally back to school today, so I can get my routine back! Work, house, laundry... believe it or not, all is right w/the world. Oh, & trying to get my eating right today. Make it a good one!!
  23. Good Morn, Vi's~~ Ok, new dawn, new day... gosh I sound like the Prez, lol... but positive thoughts, positive intentions, positive plans... (except that I think that we're going to the cuban place for lunch today... ack!!) (kids are off school AGAIN today... they go back tomorrow... this is one of the reasons I eat so much cuz' they're home!!)... I GOT THE BEST BOOK on Monday & have to share!! It's the "Eat This, Not That" Supermarket Survival Guide book and it is FULL of FREAKY info that you just have to see to believe!! I love how it shows you w/pictures that THIS is better than THAT... & 1/2 the time I'd have picked (& do pick) the wrong thing, but thinking it's a good choice!! What made me think of it to share w/ya'll right now was Lala's comment about the Dean's "guac"... here's what it says about that (p. 169 & more on dips on p.p. 180-181.): The Claim: "Guacamole". The Truth: This "guacamole" dip is comprised of less than 2% avocado; the rest of the green goo is a cluster of fillers & chemicals, including modified food starch, soybean oils, locust bean gum, and food coloring. Dean's isn't alone in this guacamole caper; most guacs with the word "dip" attached to them suffer from a lack of avocado. This was brought to light when a California woman filed a lawsuit against Dean's after she noticed "it just didn't taste avocadoey." Similarly, a British judge ruled that Pringles are not technically chips, being that they have only 42% potato in them. What You Really Want: If you want the heart-healthy fat, you'll need avocado. Wholly Guacamole makes a great guac, or mash up a bowl yourself. Seriously, this book is packed w/info... it's going to take a long while to get through it + use it as a guide during the year as we use up pantry items & replace them w/actual healthier choices. You've got to get this book, you won't believe it! Between this & the walking (Judy, its a 50K, so approx 31 MILES, phew!) I hope to make some inroads... The reality is that if I continue as I have the past year, I will maintain my 80ish lb loss but not lose any more... so I need to shake it up! Make it a great day, everyone!
  24. Hey gals~~ Here I am!! I've just been busy... busy eating every frickin' thing in sight & getting fatter by the minute so feeling bad about coming here and confessing... bad me. We've spent the whole day watching the inauguration... big doings in these here parts y'know... DH actually got up @ 3am & went down into DC to take pictures... but it was so discombobulated, & streets they said would be open weren't, etc... so he ended up walking around awhile, then just hopping back on metro & coming home by 8am! They said that happened to alot of folks. DH said that, for every person you saw crammed onto the Mall, there was one stuck on a side street somewhere. Right now I'm watching the O's @ the balls... Michelle's dress is pretty... I wasn't an O supporter, but he is an inspirational speaker... and man oh man, I hope he can tackle our challenges! Judy, yes, there was a 40-vehicle pile-up very near here yesterday in the unexpected snow... but we were not affected. Ok, so here's some news... I joined the MS Challenge Walk in June... 2 days, 50K walk... my BIL has MS & DH organized a 100-mile bike ride team last year, & this year my dsister is coordinating a walking team... I am hoping that while doing good for those w/MS, I will also do good for myself w/having to train, etc... will keep you posted... Time for bed... g'night!
  25. Hey girls... Gotta love technology! Here I am bundled up in many layers in the lounge @ the barn, on my laptop, tippity typing away to you all! It is 10 degrees this a.m! DD begged to come work her classes this a.m., so I'm staying in case she starts feeling badly or has a coughing/barfing fit. She wants to stay all day, but I really want to take her home for a bit in between these classes & hers @ 3pm... we'll see... it's just so ding-danged cold!! Question: Is the rest of the country (which is all of you) excited for the inaguration? It is ALL you hear about here, naturally, but I'm just curious to see if it's as big a deal everywhere else. It's a bit weird when you live here, because National news is our Local news. It's going to be CRAZY here... bridges & roads into the city will be closed, folks have to either take buses or walk in, you can't take umbrellas or coolers or tons of other stuff... it's like nothing else ever before! DH is actually thinking about going in to walk around & take photos... he's nuts! Make it a good day. All the nutella's gone, so that's good. Keep warm!
