  1. So in general Australians have been told they can drink carbonation. Is there a higher incidence of band slippages in Aussieland? Just wondering if there is any data on this
  2. I think you shold tell your surgeon. When I was having my surgery, one of the nurses who was giving me post-op care was a total b*tch. When I didn't immediately wake up after the asesthesia she started YELLING at me and threatening to force me out of bed. It was insane. I told my doctor about this and he was SO greatful! A doctor's staff represents the doctor and if they are doing a cr@ppy job then they make the doctor look bad and docs obviously hate this. Also, remember that some of the stuff she was saying isn't necessarily wrong. It may contradict what YOU were told, but it's not entirely wrong. For example the carbonation: my doc has absolutely no issues with soda. (I have cut it out of my diet anyways because its unhealthy, but not because I was told i was at risk for a slipped band) I have read on here such a broad spectrum of opinions on soda and really, there is no right or wrong answer. Some docs are fine with it and some docs make their patients sign a contract saying that they will quit after surgery. So while it may have seemed like the NUT was speaking total hogwash, it could be that she just learned differently. If it directly contradicts what your doctor is telling his patients then maybe he should know...
  3. For your soft stage also maybe buy cottage cheese, soft fruits (strawberries and stuff)
  4. Good luck!!!! And good for you for hopping back onto the the bandwagon!!
  5. I chose the band because it is adjustable, reversable, removable, and the complications are less serious than those seen in the sleeve
  6. Just do on your own whatever the personal trainer would do with you (minus the $80 bucks). Go to the gym 3-4x per week and do 30 mins cardio and 30 mins strength training. Or buy a workout video and follow it at home Or get a wii and do fitness on there You get the jist.... I think trainers are fabulous.... If you can afford them!
  7. I honestly have never heard of 500 calories per day. I think 800-1200 is what most docs recommend in the losing phase. It may seem crazy to you because you do not have the band yet, but trust me, once you have it it's not gonna be so tough
  8. Not BM'ing routinely is defintlely something that I have noticed slows down my weight. Eat LOTS of fiber every day!!!.
  9. If you are sliming from drinking liquids then I would think your (way) too tight!
  10. Ditto wholeheartedly to what Terry has posted. Just take it one day at a time. It will get easier after a few days.
  11. You are so brave! What an inspiration Welcome to LBT!
  12. And when you put foods in a measuring cup do you squash it down and condense it? Wow I never used measuring cups and now I feel like a fool since I use a scale!
  13. Not having to shop in the fat sections in stores!
  14. Thank you So how do we then know which foods need to be measured and which need to be weighed? Until now I have been weighing my foods, which worked great because it was so easy
  15. What I don't understand is how do we measure a cup? Weigh 8 ounces on a scale? Or whatever food we can stuff into an 8oz cup? I'm confused at these different ways of measuring
  16. Do you have morning tightness? Because if not, then Morningstar breakfast patties are awesome. Loaded with Protein and low carb. Otherwise like some others have said, cottage cheese with fruits is good. Or an energy bar. Fiber One makes some healthy god tasting flavors. Avoid eating Cereal with milk, as it is a slider food, but once in a while if you do eat it, then make sure it's a healthy cereal like raisin bran (which is loaded with fiber)
  17. As for the pasta, tmf's answer is right on! The reason i think that some surgeons advise strongly against spicy good is because eating spicy foods makes us more likely to drink, which washes food through the band making it a MUCH less effective tool
  18. To those who have written that they have struggled with the band because either they were too loose or too tight: When you re-try using this this tool, please tell your doctor that you want to start getting fills SLOWLY! And then every subsequent fill only get .5 cc's put in (or less) It's annoying and tedious, I know, but this way you can be sure that you will not "miss" your sweetspot by being too aggressively filled. I find that many doctors do not give such tiny fills, but be honest with him/her and really speak up about this
  19. Two things help me 1) Keeping myself busy. A) This helps take my mind off the stress that often makes me crave awful foods B ) keeps me busy enough to not think about food all day 2) DO NOT BUY AND CRAP FOODS! Out of site=out of mind If there is nothing bad sitting around teasing you, you will be less agonized. It is torture to be miserable and depressed and have to avoid the junk food in your house at 2 AM
  20. Basically it's a 9 week program that trains you to run 5k (about 3 miles) You follow their instructions and work on the treadmill 3x a week. The actually training is tough. It's intervals of high speed and low speed. It's not easy, but challenging and rewarding. Ha, did day two today and i'm really exhausted from it! we're in this together, girl!
  21. There is so far nothing that I cannot eat when I eat it in small portions and small bites. Some foods are tough for me when eaten too fast, like tough fresh deli (cold hard turkey, corned beef etc.) and hard bagels. But this is only if I'm starving and eat like a pig
  22. Did day 1 of week two today- man its hard! But I reall love that I can run for 90 seconds multiple times. Still boggles my mind that the treadmill takes SO much more energy than the elliptical but burns much less calories...
  23. I totally understand the discouraging feeling! Its so hard to keep chugging on when the weight loss is SO slowwww Ugh I've been plateuing for a few weeks now and its miserable ugh
