Scared About Life After Surgery
I was really lucky this week (post-op week) that my mom took care of feeding my son. I just prepared his first meal entirely myself since surgery Monday. My son has been pretty good about being careful with my tummy. he lifts up my shirt and says "oh, my poor momma". It's pretty funny. I've only felt hungry in the last two days but it's been a huge help to have someone else deal with the food.

Craving Badly
I had a birthday party today and as I'm only 6 days post-op, I couldn't have anything- not even iced tea because it wasn't decaf! Having my darling son kiss me with his little frosting and cake coated lips was torture. Yesterday the smell that had me crazy was popcorn. Tomorrow I get to add some foods but still another week of liquids. I'm not going to complain much though because I'm loosing well and might even make it to 20lbs when I see the surgeon on Thursday.

Were Your Eyes Wide Open?
royboy said it for me- I have so much time on my hands now that I can't eat! I think I was pretty informed. My mom had GBS when I was young and my aunt and cousin have more recently had GBS so I feel like I knew what I was getting myself into. I'm a pretty recent surgery and have just begun to feel hungry. I'll be happy to add some more foods next week - even pureed things! They have greek yogurt popsicles at Costco... need to check that out! Hopefully they aren't full of sugar!

Surgery Tuesday-Subconscious Anxiety
Oh yeah! I felt very calm and focused and just wanted my day to arrive but I had no focus at work and knew I was stressing about it. So far post-op has been a breeze and I know this was the right thing to do. Hood luck to you!

Positive Feedback
I feel incredibly lucky with my surgery. It was Monday and other than the nausea the first 18 or so hours that they controlled well with meds I have felt great. I went home Tuesday afternoon and don't have any complaints. I took a few of the pain meds they gave me but not since Wednesday night. Oh, coming out of anesthisia is no picnic but it passes pretty quick.

The Final Countdown...
Congrats Pink_140! My pain has been pretty minimal too. The nausea the first 18 hours was no fun but I've been home since Tuesday afternoon and feel great. I've walked quite a bit each day (shopping walking and walking to get my son from daycare) and my last pain pill was Wednesday night to get myself back to sleep. I feel great!

How Long Were You In The Hospital?
One night. Checked in at 8:30am, surgery pretty close to on schedule at 10:30am, in a room by 2pm and left the next day around 2pm. They wanted to be sure I had three "meals" and was peeing fine and enough. I was happy to go home.

My Pcp Will Not Take My Stitches Out!
I agree with circa on the PCP switch! That's like not being able to follow up with your PCP after having a wound stitched in the ER. I also removed some of my stitches from a surgery in 1999, it's not that bad.

I Cant Do This
believe me when I say I understand your fear and I felt the same way. I'm just recently sleeved so I can only speak of my recent experience buy for me it's been really ok. I only had one day pre-op of all liquids so my last real food was last Saturday night. I miss the physical sensation of eating a little but I'm not really hungry. The liquids really fill you up. I can have some thicker pur?ed things next week and I'm looking forward to a decaf coffee with milk but I'm following Dr's orders to the letter on the post-op eating. I know this was the best thing for me.

Having A Test Tomorrow
I was totally freaked out for this but they are all correct- they give you drugs do you don't remember a thing. It was easy and I was loopy all afternoon.

My Surgery Is Scheduled! Valentine's Day 2012 <3
Good for you! I was just sleeved on Manday and am doing fine. I'm starting to miss the physical aspect of eating but know that will come back in a few couple weeks. I know this was the right decision for me and I wish the same for you.

Sleeved On Tuesday 1/10/12
Congratulations! I'm a Monday sleever too and my experience has been great. The nausea the first 18 hours or so was the worst and the meds they gave me worked well. I feel so lucky.

Finally Sleeved!
I had the hiatal hernia repair too! Each day has been better and better. I'm looking forward to adding some Greek yogurt and heavier (funny ghat pur?ed is heavier) soups next week and MILK in my coffee!!!

My Sleeve Story
congratulations! I attended my first seminar in summer 2010. My new PCP threw a wrench in my plan and delayed me a year but I had my surgery yesterday and so far, so good. Good luck to you.

Hiccups And Gas Pain?
thanks all!

Sleeved At 10:30 Today!
Still doing well! They drew blood this morning and took out the catheter. I was up walking in the middle of the night. I seem to be burping quite a bit. I was able to swallow my thyroid pill this morning and they are going to transition me to oral pain meds. I think I forgot to mention they fixed a hiatal hernia while they were inside.

Hiccups And Gas Pain?
I'm having the hiccups over and over. I'm sort of prone to them but this is a lot! Also, when does the gas pain usually begin? I've been burping quite a bit, but haven't noticed much if any beyond the burping.

Finally Sleeved!
Hi Christin! Glad to see you post. nausea has been the hardest part for me too. I'm drinking cranberry now but can't do jello or Popsicle at all. Hope your recovery continues to go well!

Sleeved At 10:30 Today!
I'm sleeved! my surgery was around 10:30am PST. I'm slow out of anesthesia and waking up is never fun. It wan't painful, I just felt uncomfortable with the oxygen mask. I arrived in my room a little before 2pm and my friend came to the room then. My first nurse was sleeved 8 months ago so we chatted some but I was very tired and starting to fall asleep on them so they let me sleep. I felt really good when I woke up and they tried to get me up. Nausea hit me really hard so I didn't walk then but I did jet up later and walked down the hall. Dinner was chicken broth, watered down apple juice, jello and a Popsicle. Broth worked, apple juice was ok not great and jello & Popsicle were a no go! can't do sweet. I don't have any gas pain yet and very little pain. The nausea is the only thing bothering me so far. Weird thing, I weighed 11lbs less today than I weighed on Thursday. Must just be water-weight.

The Final Countdown...
so far the only discomfort I have is the nausea (knock on wood) and the heprin shots are no fun. they brought me chicken broth, diluted apple juice, jello and a Popsicle for dinner. broth good, apple juice ok and jello and grape Popsicle were horrible - immediate nausea, close to barfing. Just brushed teeth and that has me a little queasy. Still have the catheter. I think they want to measure how much. sorry if tmi!
