  1. my books came in today. Bandwagon: strategies for success with the adjustable gastric band and a second called The Everything Post Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook: all you need to meet and maintain your weight loss goals. Can't wait to read them both. YAY

  2. call the surgeon's office and have them make that decision for you. they deal with the insurance companies everyday and i know i have read this type of post before so i am sure it happens all the time. why do liquids if you don't have to.

    December Bandsters!

I am going to take it one day at a time and i am going to tell my husband to hide the scale, because if he doesn't i would probably weigh myself everyday and i do not want to do that. This is forever now. this is not me going on weight watchers or atkins and starting a diet for a wedding that is upcoming or a vacation, this is for my life and i am not going to think of this as a diet anymore. this is going to be the new me that learns to love herself, love her body and eat only good choices. i am going to say, how many Cookies have i already had to eat in my life, i know what that tastes like and after i swallow it i forget what it tasted like anyway. I am going to do this for life now. December 1st is fast approaching and Lap Band, i look forward to spending the rest of LONG life with you and i hope we can learn to live together in harmony and give eachother exactly what we need. my motto is ONE DAY AT A TIME. thank you all for your support. Skinnyminime, i read alot of your posts and you give me encouragement. thank you very much.

    December Bandsters!

have you guys read all the negative posts lately. anyone second guessing this. i spoke to my gastro doctor about all the negative posts lately and he said that if i stay away from creamed soups, ice cream shakes and high calorie liquid food that will just pass through the band, i will be fine. lately i was thinking about not coming on the forum anymore because so many posts are about the negative and people saying they are planning to take out the band, but i only try to read the positive posts. anyone noticed all the negatives and is it affecting you?
  5. my surgeon said that this is a good way to get used to the liquid diet because after each fill you will have to be on a liquid diet anyway. i have to be on the liquid pre op for 2 weeks and that includes thanksgiving. what the heck. no thanksgiving for me this year . good luck and take it one day at a time.

i am so excited and anxious, but to me honest, for a bit there, all the negative posts were getting to me. alot of posts about bandsters that are two years out and they have gained all of their weight back. i didn't think that was possible to do that. i thought for a second that the band was going to stop me from eating but my doctor told me that if I do not eat my calories, I will be fine. I am promising myself to stay away from any creamed soups or ice cream shakes. I am going to take it one day at a time, just like any other addict, because I am addicted to foods and always made bad decisions in the past and will make a effort everyday to think about what i am going to eat and plan every meal. congrats to you on your success and i hope that you feel better each day and continue your journey to a smaller you. keep in touch.
  7. today my husband said to me that he loves me just the way i am but he said the only trouble is that I do not love myself. how can we hate the fact that we let food win in taking over our lives, but not have the stregnth to fight it. maybe sometimes we need a little something extra. hope Lap band will do that for me

  8. welcome to the forum. i am from south jersey also. saw your post. how was your surgery? congrats on your weight loss so far. keep up the good work.

    December Bandsters!

anything beats clear broth, Protein shakes and sugar free Jello. lol. You are lucky that you and your husband are banded at the same time, you can go through it together and support eachother in your daily food intake. that seems like a great success story there. good luck to you both .

    December Bandsters!

My birthday is november 17th and that is the day i am supposed to start my two week liquid diet. my surgery date is December 1st, but my surgeon gave me the go ahead to have my birthday dinner and start on the 18th. i think he realized that i am going to have to miss thanksgiving so he figured he would give me my birthday. I wonder how thanksgiving is going to be? at least i can have some turkey broth lol. good luck fellow december bandsters. i was waiting patiently to see a December Bandsters post. i feel like it is just around the corner now.
  13. some surgeons do not require the pre op diet, i heard somewhere that it their way of showing us what to expect after surgery and after each fill. that way you can get used to the liquid diet. if that is true, i am mad because i have to do if for two weeks and that takes my thanksgiving away from me. but it is a good practice anyway and you get a jumpstart to weight loss. good luck and don't worry.
  14. I was interested in buying a book to help with my lap band journey. my nutritionist mentioned a book called Eat This Not This, but it seems like there are alot different choices and that got me thinking about how Lap Band Diets are pretty unique so i figured I would go straight to the source. Thank you for your suggestions. seven more weeks to go to surgery.
  15. had an office visit with gastroenterologist today and he left me with such a great vote of confidence and support. he was so excited for me. he wants to see me four months after surgery and he said "I know i will see much less of you in April". Doctors do not realize how much they hold our selfconfidence in their hands. thank you Dr. Rasovsky for your extreme vote of confidence and support with my decision for lap band.

    Wishing and hoping

good luck with your appt. dont be afraid to be your own advocate and ask the primary to support this decision. let him or her know that you struggled all of your life and you know this will be difficult and you know that the lap band is just a tool to assist in the weight loss. my doctor wanted to know that i didn't think the band was going to do all the work. tell him or her that you researched this for a long time and you feel that you will be a good candidate. please respond to me directly when you get the news. I would like to know if this works out for you. Good luck

    Am I missing something?

post op shopping list is so important. i am not banded yet, but i have read over and over about what you will need for your liquid diet following surgery. hopefully some of the bandsters can give you tips on that. you will not be able to do a big shopping after, so make sure you have plenty of gas x and all the protein shakes that you will need for the week to follow. also vitamins and supplements are needed and plenty of water if you do not drink tap water, make sure you have plenty of bottled water. good luck in your journey. just keep checking the pre and post surgery forums, so much crutial information. go to the source, the doctors and nurses have not been banded so talking with people who have been can give you first hand information on your journey following surgery. GOOD LUCK

    Am I missing something?

On my first visit with the surgeon i was there for an hour and a half. after i spoke with the surgeon i spoke with the insurance lady and i was given a packet that showed exactly what my insurance required. in the last three months i had to get clearance from a cardiologist; pulmonologist; gastroenterologist; therapist; letter of support and weigh history from primary care doctor and have three sessions with the hospitals nutritionist. have you done any of these? definitely call them. good luck
  24. i was interested in the breathing exercises. is this something that the surgeon will tell you about after surgery? today at my second nutritionist appointment that topic came up but i didn't think to ask what that involves. Thank you. In reply to: Also, its not a shopping item, but make sure you take a walk and are doing your breathing exercises during the day. I would do my breathing, then take a walk around the block. It all contributes to a super fast healing process. Be prepared to sleep sitting down. I slept in my recliner for the first few nights since it hurt so much to sleep on my side.

    why are people SO Mean!

i just don't get people. instead of being happy for you, they have to be ugly. i have been jealous of people in the past but my jealousy comes out as being happy jealous and wanting to bask in their enjoyment. now i understand why some people start over after a huge weight loss; new job, new town. the way you get back at her is get that size four dress and wear it proudly and keep the tag on and let it hang out so she can see it. be proud of yourself and instead of kill them kindness, kill them with hotness. congratulations!!!
