Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I will turn 68 tomorrow and was sleeved 3 weeks ago. What percentage of people over 65 do you think Medicare or advantage plans would have to cover? There is hardly anyone in the "60's" forum on this site. So sad...

Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I would love to have some of those leaves. I will be 68 on Monday and I lived in Ohio most of that time and Fall was my favorite time of year! The sunshine here is nice too! I think medicare coverage is determined by each state. FL is a no-go for the sleeve. However, the self-pay here is $18,000 for the sleeve, so you could have a nice vacation for the extra money!!! Let me know how you make out. I'll be thinking of you. Please let me know if medicare changes to have it covered as I am at appeal level 2.

Well we're at opposite ends of the country! I'm in Fl. Curious as to what self-pay is on the sleeve up there. Would be great if it wasn't a trick!- Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
The nausea can come from dehydration (the only way I could drink more would ne to stay up all night), ketosis (burning the fat) and/or this thrush. The bougie he used was 36. Glad you got your surgery date. What state are you in?- Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Just had my two and a half week checkup and Dr. said I am ahead of schedule and Monday to start stage 3. Gave me something for nausea and said I may have thrush due to antibiotics I was on pre-op as well as in the hospital. He gave me an rx for that too. So I am good to go for two more weeks. Thanks for asking.- Help! Nausea everyday!!!
Hi Guys, Thanks for the info. It helps so much to know you're "normal" and what you might try to help with the problem. I am going to ask about zofran.- Help! Nausea everyday!!!

I didn't think things had changed. We need to start a petition!- Help! Nausea everyday!!!
Greetings Fellow Sleevers, I have been having a big problem every morning and evening with nausea. (not pregnant) The first week I was fine. But then the last week and a half I have been so nauseas. Dr said may be dehydration, and to drink, drink, drink. However I drink every 5-10 mins. Only way I could do more is to not sleep and that's been happening so I drink some more. I have the supositories and they help temporarily. I have tried to exercise thru this and that doesn't seem to help. I am still on liquids and am wondering if maybe food will help Did anyone else have this and if so what did you find helpful and how long did it last? I drink pepermint or ginger tea each morning and only helps temporarily. Desperate for your suggestions, Monty- clock watcher
Hi all, I am just sitting here playing with the clock and calendar and wondering what I'll be eating by my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. My surgery was 10-03-11, and since I'm still on liquids I feel like I am marking time to get to the next level. I walk, read, surf the net etc., but even though I know it's one day at a time, I wonder what everyone is doing to fill their days beside making shakes, pudding, and taking their vitamins. I guess going out to eat and being with friends on the wekend is out for a while. So in the meantime I will be doing _____________________. (Please fill in the blank and be nice.) THANKS!- The nerves have officially set in!
Hi, I hear everyone's fears about the "Big Day"! I was just sleeved10-4-11 and I felt the same. You have been concentrating on meeting and checking off each step and suddendly the next one is "the table" In other surgeries you know pretty much what to expect, at least that's the way I felt. But with this one, it's not just the surgery, it's the commitment and doubts about whether you are making the right decision (one last chance to back out). Just try to concentrate on all the reasons you decided to do this before that anxiety set in to frighten you. Once you get closer something kicks in that says "I've come too far to let anything stop me now! This is my life and I'm not letting anything or anyone ever take it from me again.!!! By the way Chris, I just found your blog and I am loving it. Please keep blogging- Hunger
My next Dr appmt is 10-20. I like your diet better I am not doing so well on my exercise. Just can't seem to get that off the ground. I did a walking tape for 10 min yesterday and bought a pedometer and have started counting steps. There is a great site called MY FITNESSBUDDY.COM that helps me keep track of myprotein, fluids etc. I fill that in and track my progress. I am still dealing with hunger and except for the incisions would wonder if they even did it. If you are eating 2-3oz at a time you must have to eat more frequently that 3-4 times a day. Maybe that is the key. Please keep me posted how you are doing and I will do the same. Thanks for your response. I look forward to connecting with others in the same boat on here- start of post op exercise
Hi Everyone, I was sleeved 10-3-11 and other than walking the halls of the hospital, I wondered if you would mind sharing what type of exercises or program you did post-op and when you started, how long etc. Thanks!- One year through the trials of hell
Thanks so much for this post. I am 10 days out and had started to feel sorry for myself with the routine diet and blah shakes. Thanks for reminding me of my reasons to get sleeved!!! I- This forum seems to have very few people
Hi, I just got sleeved 10-4-11 so I am now looking at post-surgery posts and found your post. I will be 68 on the 24th of this month. I must say this was the easiest of now 4 abdominal surgeries, but not quite as I expected recovery wise. For one thing I have genuine hunger, not head hunger. The second thing is I am not making it on liquids only. I have pureed some chili, had 1/2 cup mashed beans with shredded chesse, and some sugar free pudding. From other posts I see some people are allowed mushies right out the gate. I haven't had any trouble with these foods. Sometimes I get an air bubble and have to wait until I burp. As far as exercise I have had both of my knees replaced and two discs in my back removed so I'm not doing handstands-don't ever expect to. I will be happy if I can walk without struggling for air. How are you doing? Would love to hear your ideas and where you are in all this. Monty- What do you eat week 2 and 3
Did you do liquids only and did that include Soups, chil and sugar free pudding? When did you move on to mushies? Know one has to follow doctor's orders but curious because so many seem to be talking about mashed potatoes etc. Thanks!- Help!! What elese can I eat?
I'm confused. When do you start eating the things you al are talking about? 2nd, 3rd, 4th week out? How long were you on the liquid stage? What happens if you try wendy's chili in the liwuid stage? Is that allowed? Thanks.- Hunger
Thanks for asking. Haven't been here in awhile. I am still down as the shakes are becoming tiresome already. You were sleeved on the same day as I recall. What is your diet right now? Am I misreading your ticker or have you already lost 17 lbs? When is your next Dr. visit and when do you move on to the next stage. What will you be allowed to have? Just curious if the Drs. in Austraila do it the same. It's nice to have someone to chat with that is in the same boat and about the same time. Monty- moving on to next stage
Thanks so much for sharing that info. My doc is very expreienced having done over 5000. They recently changed the pureed to start the 21st instead of the 15th, so I think some people may have pushed the button too soon. I was wondering if another aspect might be that they have found putting pureed down might strech the sleeve too soon.. I know m y body and it's limits pretty well having gone thru 3 abdominal surgeriens none of which were for WL. I am very careful but sometimes it just feels lie the right thing to do. I think you're right about one size does not fit all. Thanks, again. the- moving on to next stage
Does anyone know if the reason food is restricted is because the stomach isn't ready for it. I am only 6 days post surgery and I am soooo hungry I tried some pureed navy beans with a little shredded chedar on top.(about 1/4 cup) and it went down find and eased the hunger. Now I'm wondering if I am just ready to move on. Any one else experience this? Thanks- Hunger
Congratulations! You need to get some Protein powder or shakes to boost your protein. Apparently you need to hang around 70-75, because it speeds up your metabolism and helps you lose faster. I also made some homemade chicken broth (receipe on this site) and my new tummy really liked it. Canned and carton tasted too salty to me. Hope this helps. Monty- homemade broth
Thanks. Looks like another great receipe that will be easy for me to make- homemade broth
Thank you so much. I am making this for tonight's dinner and eating the broth and saving the chicken. - Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
