E-girl got a reaction from Boujee_Susie in Severe Reflux- Revision?
I am scheduled for Sept 10 for the GERD. I have had my sleeve for the past six years I’ve had nothing but complications. I didn’t experience the GERD till six months after the sleeve is done but they didn’t diagnose the gERD till almost 3 years later.

I’ve been on three different PPIs, Bought a $7000 bed to elevate me while I sleep, and have to take another medication four times a day just to give me a little relief.

For the past three years been trying to get a stretta procedure approved. Each time getting denied. This year my insurance finally started covering Stretta but because of the insurance they wanted pic. The ESG showed I had a hiatal hernia and polyps. So now I’m going to be having A gastric sleeve to Roux en Y revision.

I never thought about soaking chicken in both. That’s a great solution. Thanks!

Nothing if worse than trying to explain to someone the effects of acid reflux who doesn’t live it every day.

We have a sleep number bed. Mind you we spend $7000 on this thing. So I can adjust the bed to a sitting up position. The ap is not working on my phone but it is working on my husband’s iPad.

Tell me why he pitching a fit because I have to use his iPad to adjust my side of the bed so I don’t have to up chuck my dinner tonight in middle of the night. Seriously!?!?

I am like....sorry I have to use your iPad to prevent vomiting my dinner in our bed. Sorry for the inconvenience of 1 minute to adjust the bed.

    So sorry to inconvenience you.

I had my revision to bypass done on 6/26. I had the sleeve in 2014, and has every complication you could think of. It was awful. Once I learned I would have to convert to bypass due to severe reflux, I panicked. It actually went great. It was so much better than the sleeve. Does it hurt? Yep, I am sore. I am able to deal with it, walk a lot, get my sips in, and work on Protein goals. I was too sick to do any of that before so this has been a nice change. I don’t regret it at all.

Or if you eat too much too fast. I used to get the slims but not anymore. I am 3 years out and as far as calories go you will not be at 800-1000 for the rest of your life. Your sleeve relaxes after year 2 to 2 1/2 so then eating is easier almost normal.
I wasn't prepared for the shaking feeling in my legs when I forgot to eat. That freaked me out the first time when I didn't know what was happening.

Yes it is very common. I had the same thing and had to go on the strongest PPI and it still has not helped. So my bariatric recommended a surgery called stretta. They go in through the month and sort of shrink wrap the part that connects your esophagus and stomach. My insurance is covering it. Thank God because my meds I am on are really expensive $350 after insurance and the discount plan offered by the manufacturer for a 90 day supply. And it still doesn't work.
Plus, I don't like the idea of being on a med that makes your bones brittle. I am hoping this is work.

My NUT says what the surgeon wants her to say but then tells you the truth. I love her! I too believe the medical industry is behind the times in obesity but I think it more has to do with insurance companies, prescription drug companies, $$$$, and politics.

    Take the bread away.
Dump salt, pepper or a little Water on whatever is sitting there before it's picked up if you're done.
Ask for a box and bag with dinner. Box and bag the left overs before you even get started.
Ask for a salad plate up front so you can better "measure" what you do plan to eat
Bring a tooth brush and go brush your teeth when you're finished.

I look at this thread and I reminded of all the people who post
I lost __Fill in the blank___lbs Gone Forever!
It used to make me so sad because I was one of the first people to join this board, revising from a band and I knew I had made the right decision. I lost weight right away because I got revised quickly when I started to have band problems.
All of a sudden, between year 2 and 3, I could not lose the little gain I had over the weekend. I was good all week long, ate all Protein drank my Water and the scale did not budge. Pretty soon it was time for the next weekend, and I gained 2 more lbs. Then the holidays came around and I was completely depressed.
I lost all my regain with the 5:2 plan rather easily. I didn't have a bf or husband, so I could plan all my meals the way I wanted.
All that changed when I got another bf. popcorn at the movies, him bringing home ice cream and donuts constantly etc and I am right back to where I was. I had back surgery in early Nov. and I have had complications from that, so I can't even exercise.
I am determined though. It's either take off some weight or go and buy new clothes. I refuse to give all my really cute and stylish expensive clothes to a thrift shop. I just have to gather all my willpower and stop snacking in the evenings.
I hate to say I'm glad other people are now gaining weight back, but i have to say it was so depressing to keep reading how everyone was getting full from 4 bites of food, and they have lost all desire for sweets. We can do this, and we don't have to do it alone!

E-girl reacted to CowgirlJane in What are your differences between Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3?
Good topic, since my WLS was December 2011, my years fit calendar years pretty well!
2012 - I almost got to goal but not quite. It was also surreal, I felt a bit awful at times in the early months and it was so strange to have to eat like taking a medication, not because I was hungry. I also had to start facing some of the vulernerability revealed by my disappearing fat suit. I remember the summer of that year I felt so wonderful...I went hiking with my kiddo, wore shorts to the state fair. I was so proud, but when I look at those photos, I was still fat. By the end of the year, i was very close to goal and was starting to deal with "attention" and other strange events.
My theme for 2012 was single minded focus to losing weight during the honeymoon period - the year of committment.
2013 - hit goal in February - happy happy!!! That year was filled with so many new adventures, more hiking, starting dating and finding maintenance pretty easy....in fact I started getting careless. I was however FIT - workouts were intense and I was feeling like an athlete! Come about August I realized too many dates had added about 3 pounds so I started 5:2 and got down well under my goal! 2013 was filled with highs and lows...I decided to get plastics, got a new horse, but was in some ways a bit of emotional rollercoaster.
My 2013 theme felt a little crazy - so much changed in my life!
2014 - I was still maintaining quite easily under goal, but had a bit of a life upset and and lost my appetite. I lost 10 pounds (unintended) in about 3 weeks and at least i had the sense to get help. I spent a few months getting my feet back under me. By summer, I was feeling good, looking good, happy! I maintained at my new lower weight pretty well - but at the end of year I let myself get off track and by year end i was back to goal
2014 overall was a year of stability for me - no big changes, no surgeries, lots of fun but no important decisions.
2015 - so far... I am finding it surprisingly difficult to get back under my goal compared to experiences from previous years. My current weight is fine, but like most people I want a little cushion...What I notice is that "buckling down" is not really causing the pounds to drop but I am maintaining my goal easily. I am much happier with life as a healthy thin person, but it isn't always easy. Physical problems caused by a lifetime of obesity are starting to show up - joint issues in particular.
I am still working on my theme for 2015 ....

E-girl got a reaction from A_ReNUDE_me in Is anyone able to eat chicken & grapes post op?
I been eating chicken since the solid stage, which was about 8 week after surgery. I eat all the time now...in the crock pot or roasted is the best but I can do grilled if not over cooked. Fish is easier but I can do steak if med or med-rare. I can't do pork and for the longest time I couldn't do tuna in a can but at 18 months suddenly I can. My nut said, if you can't do a certain food now don't worry, try again in 30 days. I still can't do grapes and I am 20 months out.

E-girl got a reaction from gourmetone in When can you drink
Never. I can't drink it and I was sleeved 18 months ago. Soda is not good for any WL patient. The carbonation can stretch your pouch. The gas in the drink comes out and expands your stomach like a balloon. Your new stomach pouch can be stretched out over time if you drink carbonated beverages after your surgery. What’s more, carbonated beverages – like soda pop, ginger ale, sparkling cider and even tonic Water – increase hunger and contribute to weight regain.

Each person's goal is going to be different. i do notice that when people get to the goal they set, they set a new goal. This is what I did. I never asked my surgeon's office what my goal weight should be until the end and the doc just said, "you look really good and i don't recommend losing any more." Heck that was about 10 lbs a go. Now I am totally happy with my weight and working on maintenace. I do have to go back and do a reset and get back on track. I weigh myself daily and I do have days where I have a lot of head hunger. So I know that I have to be careful.

You might be eating too fast. Do you get nauseous no matter what you eat or just certain things? My doctor gave me pills for that. It did go away after a few months but I would check with your doc about it.

Oh for sure fiddle! Rainy weather makes me feel snuggly and cozy! And I want to put on big baggy sweaters shelter in place and feed myself comfort type foods to match the coziness.
I don't know. Maybe in a past life I was a squirrel or bear, and liked to load up on food to get me through the winter....
