Here is where you weigh out the risks. I bet the risk of getting reactive hyperglycemia is a lot lower than the risk of weight related heart issues, diabetes, knee and back issues... etc etc etc. So, weigh out the risks and make the call. Personally, some ultra rare issue that almost no one experiences... isn't enough of a risk to outweigh all the things that WILL happen if one continues to be overweight.

We had one individual in our support group that developed reactive hypoglycemia after gastric bypass surgery. He even fainted. As a result he looked into the condition and found that he could easily control it with his eating habits and by being sensing the pretriggers to the condition. So it did not really bother him except for the first time it happened.
The figure you cited "happening to 1/3 of bypass patients" seems overly high. I would not give it much weight. But since you experienced this condition before, it might be more of a concern in your individual case.
It is your decision, but if it were me I would eliminate the Gerd by gastric bypass and be hyper-vigilent about monitoring the potential for reactive hypoglycemia and using dietary means to control it should it arise.

I agree with what James said above.
What/where is the article where you found the information? You state in extreme cases the bypass needs to be reversed. Why assume you would develop this, and further assume your case would be severe enough to warrant a reversal?
Secondary to that, I don’t live my life by the what ifs.

The science does not support that high of stats on reactive hypoglycaemia in bypass patients.
It seems in your case, you did not continue to have it with the sleeve, but now need the rny to combat something causing you daily pain and a definite issue. I would go with fixing the current known issue.

You can control hypoglycemia, you can't control esophageal cancer ...

Crazy...I just started my 2 week liquid diet too. I really just want to eat chips. I almost convinced myself that it was ok to eat a left over baked potato and steak from last night because after all you shouldn’t throw away good food. What is wrong with me?!? Can you freeze potatoes?

What time is your surgery and what are you having done?

Well I guess it’s official. Just checked my chart messages and I have been approved. I am super surprised how quick it was. I was sleeved 6 years ago and have complications. It took only 14 days.

I had it in my mind that picking a date for surgery before getting approved didn’t make it real. Super real now!

I just not sure how I feel about it. When I had the sleeve I was super motivated, studied the material they gave me, dreamed about shopping for new outfits, etc. but because I have barrett's syndrome with abnormal cells in my esophagus, I am just freaked out.

I having really talked to my husband because he’s freaked out to. Don’t want to stress him out as well. Feeling kind of alone for this go around.

I hear that this is a reaaaaaaallly bad idea. A lot of the resources I saw said at least 3 months apart. You need one person healthy to help the other person heal. Or if something goes wrong and has to take somebody else to the doctor it wouldn't be good to have the other on pain meds!

I had my days where I would regret the surgery in the beginning but things really turned around after month 4. That was about the time my food addiction and head hunger kind of stopped and I started working on my new relationship with food as only a source of fuel and not comfort.
Now I am 6 months out. Lost 87 lbs. I am 1 lbs from my doctor's goal. I past my personal goal a month ago. I am really happy now. Sure I miss some things about eating but now when I go out to eat with other people and I see how much they are stuffing their face with foods that are soooo not healthy for you, I get a little sick...like physically sick. I remember doing that same thing and at the time thinking "it tastes so good" and it felt good at the time but an hour later I would be crying about how fat I was or how nasty I felt from just over eating or I had to unbutton my pants just to get comfortable.
Now I have a few bites and I am done. Everyone else is leaving the table feeling gross and I am thinking...ha ha...I am still a size 2, XXS and I look hot in these jeans! I still think about food but now I am worried about not getting enough Protein in or making sure I get to 1200 calories today.
Just remember, those things that you miss right now…those are the things that made you unhealthy and have surgery in the first place. Everyday gets a little bit better.
