  1. UHC

I also have UHC and my out of pocket is 2K. UHC pays 80% and I pay 20%. I only had like $200 out off pocket this year so I had to pay about $1800. Call your insurance company and see what your out of pocket is. If it is 2K like mine and you have it done within this year then you will only be out the balance of the out of pocket if your UHC plan is like mine.
  2. Hi all my fellow Ky's! I'm also from Ky, Lexington actually. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 20 with Dr. Weiss.
  3. My dr has me on a diet of two shakes a day and one small low carb meal. I was told my shakes couldn't have more than 20g of carbs so I have gone with the Adkins shakes they have 6g of carbs. I must admit they are better than I thought they would be. Good luck with the Pre op diet, I have 13 days left...
  4. We need to be buddies! I'm scheduled for surgery on the same day! I too am trying to find my protein options and vitamins and what not. I find myself excited one minute and I'm like oh I'm I sure I know what I'm getting myself into, but this surgery is all I have thought about for a year now. Good luck to you!
  5. Girl I' right there with you. I've stuggled with my weight my whole life! The only time I was small and felt normal was after losing 80 lbs back in High school and well I didn't do that the healthy way. I have heard that a lot of people have a much easier time getting pregnant after wls because your body is in better control of it's hormones. You are lucky you don't have to do a diet for insurance approval. I had to do six months of a supppervised diet and after jumping through ten other hoops I'm finally approved and have a date. Good luck to you I hope you don't have any problems with approval!
  6. Hi I was required to do a six month insurance approval diet but it didn't have any restrictions on it. I just had to follow a plan a loose for the six months. The Dr suggested the baratric advantage drinks but said I could buy store bought as long as they were under 20g of carbs, as the baratric ones can get a little pricey.
  7. Good luck too you! I ahve different insurance than you so I can't help you there. I think if you haven't heard from the insurance in the next couple days you should call and check on th stauts. Thats what I did and I got the good news way before my Dr. knew. The sooner you know the sooner you can get to the next step of the process. Good Luck keep updating!
  8. Oct. 20th is my sugery date with Dr. George Weiss is Lexington, Ky at Central Baptist. I am nervous, excited, scared all at the same time. I am having a hard time finding the right protein for the pre op diet and worried I will fail in the end. Help!

I was approved by my insurance on Aug.31 and I am still waiting on the surgery scheduler person to call. I find myself becomming impatient I mean this is only like a year and half of waiting.... Then of course as the time draws closer for me to actually get a date I find all these questions or fears really... Wil the surgery work? Will I be able to loose any weight? What happens if I end up being sick for months and dad (not that supportive) gets to say I told you that was a stupid idea.. Aww I think I am just thinking too much LOL
  11. I also have UHC and for my intial consult my psyc Dr. turned me down. He said I had too many underlying issues!! Stupid! I just have to go to another psyc Dr and get on a schedule for visits with her on a weekly basis, after three visits she wrote my approval letter however part of that was I still had to see her a few times a month to help with the changes that I'll go through after surgery both mentally and physically.
  12. I know how you feel. I started the process in Dec. of 2009, and decided oh I don't know if I want to go that far. Then a friend at work had the bypass and I got to watch as she lost weight and began to feel better. Then I began to have second thoughts just then another friend at work also had the bypass and she also did well by then I was sold, but the idea of vitamins for the rest of my life and no aleve (Lots of Headaches) didn't appeal to me, and then I found the sleeve. I started the whole process again in Jan. 2011 and I have been approved by my insurance and now I am just waiting the surgery scheduler to call and I find myself becoming really impatient. Of course I've known for a long time that this is what I want but now I also find myself having doubts..will it work?, will I loose weight?... So I know how you feel about being blue but both of the friends says they would do it again no questions asked... I noticed you went to georgetown for your consult is that in Ky?

My name is Amanda. I am 28 soon to be 29 this month. I started this journey two years ago. I had heard about the gastric lap band and I wanted to look into it. I went to a seminar and the intake day and decided to hold off, I just wasn't sure it was the right decision for me. Meanwhile a friend at work had the gastric bypass and as I watched her become a much happier smaller person I began to become jealous and I wanted that to. I once again visited the idea of gastric surgery. This time I was more intreasted in the gastric sleeve becasue there would be no foreign body in me and I wouldn't need to have the port replaced. Gastric bypass didn't appeal to me as I get lots of headaches and I didn't want to be prescribed pain meds just to deal with a headache. I began my six month diet (required by my insurance) in January of this year with a starting weight of 306lbs and I am about 5' 9' ish. I am currently down to about 279. I did good on the diet I lost weight every month and never missed an appointment. Finally submitted all the paperwork to insurance on Aug. 23th. I was getting nervous and called yeaterday and was told I was approved on the 31st! The poor insurance lady I made her tell me like three times and she was so sweet she just kept telling me and was like Happy Friday! I still can't believe it it just doesn't seem real yet I guess it won't until the big day, and I can't wait!
