  1. FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY, STOPPPPPPP!!!!!! Stop telling people stuff like this!!! You might be WRONG, and guess what, you WERE WRONG! This poster is on her pre-op and CANNOT HAVE "creamy soups" or "anything that can fit through a straw." And post-op, I'm guessing if she is not yet at the full liquid stage (i.e. is still on clears only) she STILL couldn't have "anything that can fit through a straw." SHEESH, how MANY times do I have to BEG and PLEAD with you to STOP posting what someone can eat??? You DO NOT KNOW, and NEITHER DO I unless they post exactly what their diet is. We are NOT THEIR SURGEON.
  2. I eat anywhere from 60-120grams of protein a day. No problems. Think about the Atkins or South Beach or Zone or Sugar Busters dieters, they are eating waaaaay more than that usually. The only time too much protein is a problem is if your diet is ONLY protein with NO or VERY little fat and NO carbs, you can have issues with your kidneys. And unless you are a survivalist living off of nothing but rabbits for a period of time, you really don't have to worry about that.
  3. I guess at least it's a poster for salad?
  4. Please don't takt this the wrong way, but you are soooo lucky, your pre-op diet includes FOOD. Mine was total liquids, stuff you HAD to buy from their office. Wasn't awful tasting or anything, and wasn't that expensive, but it was all liquid. I had two weeks of liquids post-op, too. Remember, after surgery when you get back to "solids" there is no reason you can't eat what you want, it will just be in MUCH smaller portions. You're not having a farewell to food, I didn't and couldn't think of it that way, or I would have binged like crazy! It's a measly 6 or 8 weeks total out of your life (here's the tough love), I'm thinking you have been fat for a lot longer than 6 or 8 weeks. You can do this, it's setting yourself up to change your LIFE.
  5. Hello Twoterville! I made it, I made it, I made it!!!! I told my husband this morning that I am finally at the weight I was at three years ago when he was working in Alabama for six months. He said he didn't know I had gained that much weight. I told him, "Hun, I gained 74lbs in the past three years." He said he NEVER would have guessed. Gotta love those disinterested hubbies sometimes! 6. You can make it! I KNOW you can. Like I said, log in here, gripe, moan, complain, tell jokes, chat, whatever you need to do to not eat. I see what you are saying, it wasn't so much a conscious decision, it was an automatic one that day, you were hungry so you just ate, until you realized what you were doing. Now I gotcha. We're here for you, we are all behind you 100%
  7. You do have a certain amount of restriction merely from the band being in there. Also, some docs put a small fill in when they place the newer AP band. I'm almost three months out, haven't had a fill and I DO feel restriction.
  8. I think that is a GREAT idea, but you and I both know that all this info is out there, and people still can't seem to use the Search function, or go look at the topics in forums before asking. I'd love to see it all condensed, but I dont know if it will stop some of the many many posts asking the same questions over and over. Just an aside, I LOVE your posts and am soooooo glad you have come to join us from OH!

  10. YEAH, Wendell chimed in!!! See, I said it was informative, didn't I?
  11. Yep, sure am. It is NOT the magical fix for fat, it takes work and committment and determination, the band is merely a TOOL. You have to be in the right place in your head, but once you are there, this is the best tool I can imagine. Check out the Before and After pics thread in I believe the general forum, you'll see some amazing transformations.
  12. I hope you didn't do anything, too. I don't think anyone here can say, "You'll be alright." Because you have already slipped a little, you are on liquids to fix that, it is very possible you may NOT be alright. I'll keep my fingers and toes and arms and legs and everything else I can think of crossed for you! It must be VERY tough to go back to liquids for a couple of weeks. I think I read somewhere that some folks with pouch distentions sometimes are on liquids for SIX weeks. EEEEKKK!!!! But if I had to do it, I guess I'd do my best like you are. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back in the game. This is YOUR BAND you are talking about. More of a slip=potential surgery. Good Luck, we're here for you. Come log in and write and gripe if you feel hungry, k?
  13. That is totally normal, many people describe that as their feeling of restriction.
  14. :welcomeB: re: your question has anyone had the procedure? You're serious? You are asking if anyone here on a lapband website has had the band placed? Yep, a few of us have. Lots of your questions will get answered tomorrow night, but I certainly understand your desire to know NOW. I was there once myself. My best advice to you is to read, read, read. There is a VERY important forum here, the FAQ and References Forum, go to the home page, and scroll down and click on it. There you will find things like lists of what to buy for when you get home from the hospital, references about the band itself and most importantly for you for tomorrow night: a list of questions to take to ask the surgeon. Good luck!!!
  15. I rarely take a sip, I simply don't want them. It's weird, your tastes do change after banding. Everyone's are different, so I can't predict what you may or may not want after being banded, but I remember saying to myself "My tastes won't change, that's silly." And they did. I have little to no interst in soda at all, I took a few sips and really, I was uncomfortable, felt like a balloon in my belly. That was enough for me. Many docs are revising their original reccs and saying it may be okay to have it 6 months 12 months post-op. But for many of us, it just doesn't taste the same as it did. Besides, it leaches calcium out of your body, and you are hard pressed to get your 64oz of fluid (non-caloric, NON CAFFEINATED-why? because caffeine not only is a diuretic and we need all the fluid we can get, but it also can make you hungry) in in a day, why would you want to add soda on top of it?
  16. S/He may ask things like why you think you want the band vs. bypass, how committed you are to loss, if you understand the Band process, what research you have done, etc. More importantly, there are many questions you should be asking her/him. Here's a link to a VERY important forum here, it has things like lists of things to have on hand before surgery, questions to ask the surgeon, lap band references, etc. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/
  17. Oh no, Pixies are really very vicious and dirty creatures. We wouldn't want their Water. And have you seen our shorelines? Ewwww. But maybe the Book will show us the way.
  18. I have lost a lot of hair, and my hair is past my waist, so that really sucks. But I keep reminding myself of one VERY GOOD point that WasaBubbleButt made in one of her posts about hair loss: I can buy a wig and cover up baldness, I can't cover up fat.
  19. Isn't she going to Chicago? Chi-town is only about five hours or so from Detroit, why isn't anyone talking about continuing to go see her? Is she no longer going to be in Bariatric practice? So many people on this board travel all day to get to their doctors, many fly hours one way. Chicago is pretty close, and if you hop on the train, it can make a great way to spend a day.
  20. :welcomeB: We're glad you're here!
  21. Sooooo glad to hear you are doing better! And I'm very glad to hear that there is going to be follow through on the ER doc.
  22. faithmd replied to a post in a topic in The Lounge
Page down to the bottomof this thread and you'll find links to a few other threads about this topic. Perhaps in one of them you may find what others have on theirs? I need to order one myself...
  23. Not every nutritionist and surgeon has you counting calories, in fact many do not. Loads of us do count them, but not so much to stop ourselves from eating over a certain number, but so that we can see what is going in our mouths. Sure there are some surgeons who want you to eat X # or calories per day, and that's fine. But remember, once you reach your sweet spot with restriction you won't be able to eat a lot of food. And as long as you make the right choices or what to eat, then you shouldn't be consuming loads and loads of calories. Is it easy? NO! Is it hard? Sure it is. But is anything worth having really simple? Can you eat through the band? Yes you can, chips and ice cream and Oreos go down really well. But you have to be ready in your mind and in your heart to make the changes that will improve your life. I agree, I will NOT NOT NOT live on Protein shakes for the rest of my life. I will NOT eat only certain foods, if I want a piece of cheesecake, I'm GOING to have it, but it will be a tiny piece instead of a wedge of it. If I want a steak, I won't buy the cheap tough 1lb cut anymore, I'll buy a 3 or 4oz Filet and savor it. I want to be able to eat normally (normally meaning well, not crappy), just smaller portions and that is how I view the band. I log every drink and every bite on fitday.com. I do not count calories, I do it to see what I am consuming. I stay away from things that say enriched flour or high fructose corn syrup on the label. I chose good foods now and eat chicken or beef or cheese first, then eat 1/2-1 cup of vegetables and then if I have any room, I'll eat the carbs. But I'll eat the complex carbs most of the time. Occasionally I'll have an Oreo. But I'll put it in the computer. I could never have had the bypass, I'd figure a way to eat around that, too. I'd much rather really learn good food behaviors and establish eating habits for life than eat crap and let the dumping and cramping try to keep me honest.
  24. Follow this link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/abbreviations-what-they-mean-7959/ And welcome to bandland, the burping is your official badge of entry, me thinks. I burp constantly now.
  25. I LOVE your mindset, wish I was half as strong as you! I prevent yeast infections by eating yogurt, too. A tip on the yogurt, you can get acidophillus chewables at most health food stores, or if you live in an area where there are Kroger's grocery stores, they sell a Kroger Brand Carb Master Yogurt that is 80 calories, 4 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fiber and 12 grams of protein per 6 oz cup...and it tastes REALLY good. Not like those other icky low carb yogurts. Or go get some Fage or other brand of greek strained yogurt. One cup of the fat free is 100 calories, 5g of carbs and 20g of protein I resent it, hunny bunny.
