  1. They shouldnt be charging you copay after copay either. It sounds like the surgeon was to blame for the problems. i would def look around for a 2nd opinion.
  2. Its very normal. I had bad shoulder gas pain and stomach bloating for about 7 days. And at 5 weeks post-op i still get some pains here and there. The tylenol w/ codeine they gave me did absolutely nothing, but make me sleepy. I had no interest in food either, which i guess is a good thing. But it does get better each day!
  3. Joe, Dr. Strom is my Surgeon as well. He is wonderful! i was banded 8/31 at mountainside hospital. Good to hear your surgery went well. I have to give you credit for being up and blogging already ...all i wanted to do was sleep in the hospital (of course that didnt happen). I had the worst case of dry mouth too after surgery, i was in heaven when they gave me that little green sponge and mouthwash to use! You will have that xray very early tomorrow morning.. you have to drink some barium drink that is god awful. If the xray is good, you should be discharged by 11. They may bring you some broth and water too. Take it easy and if you have any gas pain ( i had it bad) walk around the hospital floor. Good luck to you!
  4. Your welcome, and Good Luck!
  5. You should probably ask your doc about any meds you want to take. The diarrhea is normal, i had it for 3 days my first week post op. It could be from the medicine they gave you during surgery, or just the fact that you are doing liquids. Liquids go in...and liquids come out lol... I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I had bad gas pains in shoulder and side, you are lucky yours are minimal. I was not very hungry at all the first week or so out, but now i feel like im starving :/
  6. Did you have to see a Gastroenterologist as part of your pre-op consults? If so then they should've done the GI scope on you. Hospital pre-op testing varies, but i had, blood work, EKG, and chest xray.
  7. They are chewable, so they dont need to be crushed. Chew them until they dissolve.
  8. I am also 2 weeks out . I lost 15 lbs the liquid week, but only 2 lbs since. It is frustrating, but very normal. I know some that have actually gained some weight back after the liquid week. Keep moving, and keep eating small amounts, the weight will come off when you least expect it. And i agree about the scale. Once a week is good. Have someone hide it, so you wont get obsessed with weighing yourself. Good Luck!
  9. Use a heating pad as well, that worked for me. I had bad gas pains for about 8 days. I am 16 days post-op and still get them every so often.
  10. Oh wow you are filled already?? I never heard of someone getting filled at time of there surgery? That could be why you feel like crap. You definitely need to get unfilled, your body hasnt even had time to heel. I would question the Dr. as too why he filled you during surgery.
  11. I am 11 days post op, and i know exactly how you feel, but IT DOES GET BETTER!! I am finally feeling great, sleeping great, and losing weight. The first 7 days were pure hell. I just took it hour by hour and drank what i had to drink, and walked as much as possible to get rid of the gas pain. I am in the mushy stage now, and that has helped me so much emotionally to know that yes i can eat real food again. You can do it trust me, it is your battle and your battle alone, noone can do it for you. Just think of how great you will start to feel and look! hang in there! good luck!
  12. I was banded 8/31, and had terrbile gas pain as well in and around my shoulders, and i did do the preop lquid diet to prepare. I was taking tylenol with codeine for pain, but that did nothing. I was in alot of pain and constipated. Then i went out and got some chewable gas-x, and took that as well as some chewable fiber pills. I ate some yogurt too. My gas and constipaion were so much better in 2 days. I still have a bit of it here and there, but getting better every day. hang in there!!
  13. Yea, wow is right! so much for a support group! @ StewsHunnyBunny, I was also banded 8/31, I was on liquids for 1 week, and then started the pureed yesterday after my 1 week post op visit with my Dr. i was very excited to have lost 15 lbs so far! I cannot bring myself to stuff food in a blender yet, so im just sticking to yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups, and shakes. Each Dr. is different with what they want you to do, you are ready for the mushies now, so go ahead and enjoy those eggs! Oh and i feel all those pains and weird things you mentioned too, my Dr. said its normal. Good Luck!
  14. 1 week post op here..terrible shoulder pain from day one..starting to finally subside a bit....could be a build up of gas..taking gas-x helps.
  15. Im 8 days post op. I had the same problem with constipation. No BM for over 4 days. I tried the chewable fiber pills, some yogurt, and tried to walk as much as possible...and it finally worked. I was regular for 2 days, but now have had diarreah the last 2 days..ugh! :/
  16. Hi, i was banded 8/31. The gas and bloating are ridiculous. I started taking Gas-x 2 days ago, and it has gotten much better. I was constipated for 4 days, and now i have diarreah..ugh! Most important is keep hydrated..i start my mushies tomorrow, but i dont even feel hungry. I am still very sore on my port side. Im guessing its normal. I see my Dr. tmr. for one week check up. I hope i can start to feel good..cause i kinda felt like crap all week. Hope you feel better and good luck!
  17. I was also banded on 8/31..first night i sat up in the hospital bed, second night i sat up in a recliner at home. By the 3rd night i was exhausted so i propped myself up in my bed with lots of pillows..Was very uncomfortable, but i got through the night. Each night since has gotten better, i am sleeping somewhat normal, but do have some soreness on the port side. I am taking Gas-x and that helps get rid of some of that bloating feeling.
  18. Im 5 days post op and STILL have the horrible gas pain in my left shoulder!. Some times during the day i dont feel it, and some times it literally has me in tears! I am going to get the Gas-x strips tmr. I have some gas/bloating still in my stomach, and like the other posts, im not sure if its hunger or just plain gas. I dont feel hungry at all, thank god cause the thought of food right now makes me wanna puke! I can thankfully sleep normally now..first 3 nights i slept sitting up. I know first few weeks are the toughest, but geeze i just wanna feel good.
  19. Hi, I am 4 days post op...no nausea at all.. just bad gas pain in and around left shoulder and back, but walking does help. I am also starting to get a little constipated (no BM's in 4 days) I was prescribed tylenol with codeine, and had to take a few for the shoulder pain. I was able to break them in half and swallow them. Vicodin's are pretty big...so you may have to crush them completely. First night after surgery was hell, guess thats why most have you stay in hospital overnight, but has gotten much better every day. Good Luck!
  20. I am 4 days post op, and today is the first day i actually felt hungry. I have been on protein shakes, broth, water, etc..since the day i came home from hospital. I had some sugar free applesauce today, and could only eat about half of the cup! but it did help curb my appetite a bit. Cant wait til i move on to the mushies!
  21. It is a gas pain from the air/medicine that it pumped into your body during surgery. I have the same thing :/
  22. I am 4 days post op. I am tolerating the liquids, but have added some soup in there as well.. the plain broth just isnt doing it for me. I dont feel hungry at all, i guess that is helping. How long does your Dr. want you on just liquids? Maybe you can ask if u can add some mushies in there as well, might help you feel better. hang in there!
