  1. SW 155.2 CW 148 GW 144.2 Pounds to lose by Memorial Day-- 3.8 Down 1.9 this week! Yay! Im 3.8 pounds from my goal and only a week to do it in.. but I am going to try really hard! Maybe I will at least get close! If I can get to 145 (3 more pounds) I will have a normal BMI! I am so close to normal I can taste it!!!! Its the last week! Come on girls, lets give it our all!!!!!
  2. I now have to take three colaces at once in order to go. i dont do this everyday. I usually take three tablets at the same time about two or three times a week and it works for me. It didnt work to take them one a day. The bottle says 1-3 daily so I just take them all at once. It works!
  3. My sister started her preop diet today. Its all liquid for two weeks, surgery June 1. She can have cream soup for dinner but otherwise just shakes, crystal lite, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, etc. She also quit smoking today! She made it through day one, no issues. I am so proud of her! I know that it is super difficult but she can do it and I believe in her!
  4. What day? I will be there with my sister in two weeks! Hers is June 1!
  5. I too had gone to a seminar about a year before I actually had my surgery and I didnt like the staff at the seminar. I did not feel they were the ones for me. I kept trying to lose on my own and finally went to a different surgeon who was recommended to me and I loved them!
  6. I was the fastest seminar to surgery patient my Dr. had ever had. I attended the July 30th saturday seminar, made my appt with the surgeon that Monday the 1st. Followed up with him that Friday the 5th, had surgery on Monday the 8th of August. So 9 days later, I was sleeved! I had been researching it and doing supervised dieting so I would be okayed by my insurance but they only covered the sleeve if your bmi was over 50 and mine was 40.2. I decided at the seminar to self pay and the earliest appt he had was Monday morning so I took it! It was very fast!
  7. 14200 in San Antonio Texas. Covered everything. My insurance covered the sleeve but only if your BMI was over 50. I was 40.2. I chose to just self pay and get this party started... So happy I did. My sister is not covered either and chose to go to Alvarez in MX for 8750. Her surgery is June 1!
  8. I was on pills from day 1. My acid reducer was a capsule and they go down fine even though they look large. I have been taking that one and the nausea one everyday since surgery, up until a few months ago but I am 9 months out now. I have not had to crush anything. I got a cold and did not take the huge capsules like dayquil and nyquil though.. I was scared of those whoppers! I took tylenol too with no problem.
  9. SW 155.2 CW 149.9 GW 144.2 Pounds to lose by Memorial Day-- 5.7 I have been bouncing up and down this week too. My final weight for the week was 149.9 but I saw as low as 149.5. I am going to call it a half pound lost for the week and keep on trying. Two weeks left! Come on girls, give it your all!!!
  10. I had this problem for the first 6 months. My surgeon gave me nausea meds for it. He said it happened to a few sleevers but not many. He explained that when we sleep, our spit pools at the top of our stomach and when we first get up, it wants to go down but sleevy wont let it so we get a little nauseated in the morning. I would have water by my bed and take a zofran every morning when I woke up with just a sip of water. Within 15 minutes I was fine. I am 9 months out now and I dont have to do this anymore. It was a lifesaver during those times though. You could ask your surgeon for zofran to help with the morning nausea. HTH.
  11. Okay. I dont really understand this slow losing thing. Everyone says they are a slow loser and the range is huge! I have seen people post that 8 to 10 pounds a month is slow! Wow! That is soooo not true for most of us. I have been losing at a rate of about 6 to 7 pounds a month for the past 6 months, not counting the initial 2. I lost 4 pounds this past month. I think this is a fairly steady rate, not slow, not fast. This is not really a race. I have lost 83 pounds so far. I had a personal goal of 100 pounds so I am 17 pounds from that. I told my surgeon I wanted to reach that goal by August, my one year surgiversary and he said he would be happy if I reached it by Thanksgiving. The weight loss does slow up as you get closer to the one year mark. I think we need to accept that fact early on and not be so obssessed with it. I could have set my goal at 150, 160 or even 170 and I would have long surpassed those except the first one. I would be 1 pound away from goal if i had set it at 150. Goal is a personal choice. I think I will be healther and fit at 135 so that is what I chose but others my same height are happier at 160-170. So when you ask about how long it took someone to get to their goal, keep that in mind. When I first started, I was getting upset when others would reach their goals and I still had 40 pounds to lose or they were wearing a size at my same weight that there was NO WAY I could wear. I realized its because we are all built a little different and have different goals so we could not really compare ourselves to others accurately. Just keep on keeping on and it will come off. All that you want to lose, you can lose. I am going to keep on even if it takes me until Thanksgiving, I dont care that much. I am going to keep striving for summers end and see how close I come! We can all do this, no matter how long it takes.
  12. I had a hard time with the gummies. I could not chew it enough in the beginning and it was hard to swallow. I switched to chewables and they are easy to chew up to a powder and I have no problems taking them. My flintstones with Iron says on the bottle that the dose is 1/2 tablet for kids and one tablet for adults and children over 4. I dont think it would hurt to take two though my vitamin counts are really good with the one a day, aside from the Vit. D, which i needed a prescription for. My PCP says that Vit D is the one that wls patients are often low in.
  13. I take a flintstones chewable with iron once a day after I eat like a little treat. My levels are fine doing this. I take a prescription strength Vit. D once a week because it is low if I dont. Otherwise everything is great and flintstones dont make me nauseus even if I dont eat when I take them. I just do this as a precaution. I do eat when I take the vitamin D though. Occasionally I will take a B12 sublingual but not often. It works for me.
  14. I was self pay and I only had to have an ekg and blood work. The cost was included in the total I was quoted. I had surgery one week after the seminar. I wrote three checks, one to the dr. one to the private hospital and one to the anesthesiologist. The testing was part of the hospital bill. I did not have to do a sleep study or visit a cardiologist. I only had to do bloodwork and an ekg which took 2 minutes.
  15. I use a straw too. I can drink more with it and I dont get a lot of air either. I only started using the straw after a few months out. Now i use them all the time.
  16. Thanks for the comforting words. We are gearing up for it. I will let her know what I have learned from you guys. She is shy to be on the boards, not really her thing. I am sleeved myself so I was worried about where I would eat, since I eat such small quantities and dont want to eat in front of my sister. I guess I will figure something out.
  17. I have not figured this out either. The ones I make in the blender are foamy which i hate. I know mix unflavored in a shaker cup with orange juice and shake it up really good and drink it with a straw so I dont get the foam. It works for me. Unjury separates out and you just get the juice from the bottom and I stop before I get the foam but Jarrow brand unflavored stays in solution, doesnt separate and is not really foamy at all. I like it the best. It took me months to find this combo that worked for me. I am a OJ lover though and it doesnt change the taste of it at all!
  18. So happy to hear that! My sister is getting her sleeve done with Dr. Alvarex on June 1st. I had mine in Texas 9 months ago and I dont know what to tell her to expect really in MX except what I hear on the boards. I love to hear good things about the Dr. we chose. I will be going with her since its only two hours from my house. She lives in Mississippi. Do you have any advice for us? How long was your liquid diet? Did you lose enough to please him? Were there any complications? Did he give you blood thinners? Any information you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Do we need to bring anything special? You can message me if you dont want to answer all this on the board. Thanks in advance! Tammi
  19. If your iron is low you are anemic and you will feel very tired from that. Please go get some bloodwork done and see if you are deficient in a vitamin or iron. Good luck!
  20. Im at 84% at 9 months. Its slower but my sleeve is still working. I will be at 100% by one year or bust!
  21. I take a flintstones with iron chewable daily. My labs have all been great except low vitamin D and I take a prescription vitamin D once a week. Its a small capsule. My surgeon wanted me to take their bariatric advantage and calcium citrate, and Iron too but I found that the calcium citrate caused me to have a kidney stone (I am prone to have these) and so I stopped taking anything other than the flintstones and the vit. D. I am 9 months out and my labs are great!
  22. I agree pdxman... the swelling can interfere with the results so thats why my surgeon didnt do one.
  23. My surgeon does not do a leak test, or put drains, or use a bougie. (sp?). He uses the endoscope to do the procedure and can see on the inside if there are leaks. No drain was great too since I hear they can be a hassle. I am 9 months out and have not had any complications that were sleeve related. It was not a deal breaker for me. I was happy not to have to swallow that nasty crap right after surgery... besides, you are swollen then and it might not show up anyway. I know some people that had leaks and they had the test done! So, not a deal breaker for me.
  24. Im still around, just not as active as I have been. I check this site every few days. I hope everyone is doing well. My sisters surgery is coming up in less than a month! She is getting excited now and trying to cut her carbs so she can lose some before the liquid diet. How long the liquid diet is depends on what she weighs on Friday. Fingers crossed she can cut the carbs down and lose to her mini goal and only have to do 10 days of liquids instead of 21!
  25. SW 155.2 CW 150.6 GW 144.2 Pounds to lose by Memorial Day-- 6.4 I lost 2 pounds this week. Yay! I am keeping on keeping on and it is slowly coming off. We have about three weigh in's left in the challenge. I dont know if I will make it to my goal of 144 by then but every pound is a step closer to it. I am about a half a pound to the 140's yay! Keep it up peeps, we are doing great!
