  1. Hello folks, I am about to start my journey, and I go for my first consult on 06/04/2015 with Dr. Hart at Atlanta Bariatrics. I am a self pay so I am nervous about that, but very excited at the same time. I am planning on getting the gastric sleeve, but have not seen much on this site about it, nor have I seen any mention of the facility that I have chosen, and Dr. Hart comes highly recommended. Does anyone have experience with the facility or the surgeon in the Atlanta area? Any other sleevers out there that want to share, and or help support me in the Atlanta area? ( I actually live in Cumming, GA) Thanks, Mirv550
  2. None of this is impossible but things will not be normal....you have to just put that in your head, and make things work. Pastas and breads are part of why we got big to begin with. Stick to proteins, veggies/fruits, and dairy....slowly add breads and pastas back in. Best of luck!

    Sleeve failure?

Everyone has a different experience with the sleeve is what I have been seeing. I have not had any problems since being put back on regular food. I know I cannot eat as much, and I just eat until I am satisfied. I do have to contantly remind myself to eat slowly. I am now trying to stay away from carbs unless they come from fruits and veggies. I am going with the meat, dairy and veggie/fruits for now. The weird thing is that I want hot sauce on everything I eat now...lol!

    Two Year Post Opp Upda

Great post! I see some of the same pitfalls with myself, and I am working on that. I am finding ways to be better, and so far not doing to bad...The Iron Sleeve lives up to it's name, and it's funny I actually want spicy foods now..hot sauce on everything almost...lol

Welcome to the party! Super group of folks here....so don't hesitate to ask questions or look for advice.
  6. Hey folks, I have toying with the idea of biking some here and there as another form of exercise. Who has done this as well, and what equipment did you guys use. Thanks, Mirv550

    Bikes for big guys

Thanks for all the input folks..my neighbour is also helping me research this and he is a bike specialist. I don't want to spend too much as I don't know if I will like it or not.
  8. Honestly, this is why I went looking for an all guys group to talk in....seemed like too much drama in other forums. This is good information and I am glad to know it's normal! Ok enough mushy stuff..lol!

    Plastics - men's experience

Would love to hear from more folks...I was recently sleeved on 09/11, and was wondering what I had to look forward to as far as excess skin. I have already lost 50 lbs. (30 pre-op, and 20+post), so I know the weight is coming off fast.
  10. Keep at it...this is a tool to help get to a new and healther you! There is nothing magic about it, and slow weightloss gives you time to adjust to your new body...so take it slow and easy because it wins the race!
  11. 9/11/15 for me...doing great, and feeling fine! I can't wait to do more!!
  12. This is funny because my wife and I were starting to ask the same thing...lol! My surgery was on 09/11/2015, and I had one day of grogginess and laziness and took 1/2 a dose of they pain meds. The next night I took my regular dose, and slept my 6 hours with no issues, and have not really stopped since then. I mean I finished up my liquid diet on 09/17, and 09/18 I went to phase 2 which I will be until my 6th week. I am keeping it to meats, cheese, yogurts, Beans, eggs, and wheat thins...but hot sauce or spicy foods are no problem at all....veggies are harder to get in but I work them in as well. I can tell from the weight loss that I am on the right path though...how messed up would it be to be the placibo sleeve...lol
  13. Great job and you look great! Have fantastic vacation and tell the haters to put down the Haterade!

    Multivitamins

I just bought some new soft chewables from Walgreens. The name of the product is U-Be-Livin-Smart General Health. These are made with fruits and whey Protein. It has about the same as the Bariatric Advantage ones, and taste a lot better! It does have 2g of carbs but also 2g of protein. If can take a picutre of the box later and add it I will, but this will work in the meantime: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/u-be-livin-smart-general-health-dietary-supplement-chews/ID=prod6263786-product
  15. It does me good to read this post! I am only 12 days post op, and was cleared last Thursday for the next level of food after the all liquid diet. I can have soft Proteins (moist chicken) deli meats, any cooked veggies, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, wheat thins, Beans, shakes....you guys know the drill! So for I have not found anything I cannot handle, and I am seeing pretty good results on the scales. I eat my 5 or 6 times a day, and don't feel like I am missing anything...well, except steak...lol. I can take small gulps of Water, but staying away from most other drinks except coffee. I will ask for advice on chewable vitamans cause those Bariatric Advantage ones stink! OH and exercise.....I have been walking but only about a mile or so a day....need more movement but not at run weight yet.
  16. Yeah I have not had any (knock on wood) issues with my stomach either. I am 11 days out of surgery and only cleared for soft Proteins, Beans, shakes, deli meat....but it's working and I am not that hungry. I just have to make my self eat so I get my proteins in.

    Fruits?

For fruit, it was recommened that I eat greek yogurts with fruit, or canned fruit in natrual juices, and applesauce until I get to week 6. I have been eating the yogurt thus far cause I at least get the 10g of Protein with that as well.

    Protein Shakes?

You just have to watch your carbs with Protein shakes. I have seen some pretty descents ones that like 30+ grams of protein and only 5 grams of carbs. After the 2 weeks of semi-liquid and week after surgery (sleeve on 09/11) I would rather try to chew my protein in the form of chicken or turkey than drink it but I still have a shake in the afternoons to make sure I am getting the minerals and vitimans.
  19. Ok surgery was done yesterday....thanks for all the encouragement folks! I spent most of the day in bed yesterday but got up every hour or so to walk and do that breathing thing. I am tad bit sore, but the pain medication is pretty solid even though I only used it once thus far. So for now, more resting and recuperating. Btw, I was surprised to learn that I had lost 29 lbs. before the surgery so my wait for surgery was 349!
  20. Switch to eating Protein and veggies for a week and just cut carbs except for veggies. Just say if it has carbs, besides from veggies or eggs, then I can't have it. This will not work if you are vegetarian, but you do that and walk 30 minutes a day and you should be good.
  21. So update...Pre-op classes are all done, and almost everything is paid for now. I met to other courageous ladies who were about to start their journeys as well, so best of luck to them! I am on day 4 of my modified liquid diet, and things are good. Since I started this back in June, and only cut my portion sizes down, I have lost 15 lbs. which seems like a good positive start to this. I will let folks know the day before surgery and the day after.
  22. Ok my date is set for 09/11/2015...pre-op and met the anesthesiologist. I start my modified liquid diet on 08/28. Wish me luck folks!
  23. Hey folks, First time listener, and caller! I have struggled with my weight for a long time now, and as I approach 40, I would really like to live a little better. I have tried all sorts of diets and exercise, and I am pretty athletic, but just cannot seem to leave the bad foods alone. I even submitted to the Biggest Loser season 10, and made it to the final round of picks. I may try that again, but I was bigger then...well by 25 lbs. My doctor had suggested at one time to do this surgery about a year ago, but I am not one to jump into surgery. I will looking for tips, and to read the stories of those who have gone through this process and how they live day to day.
