Congrats on your loss! You are right on track and since your band is unfilled, it hasn't been as much help as it will be in the future. Get your fills as needed and keep up the great progress.

Living with a band is a lifestyle change. The band helps you feel satisfied on less food for a lot longer. When your physical hunger is sated, it is easier to make the right choices, easier to learn to distinguish "real" hunger from head hunger (eating from habit, eating because you are mad, sad, tired or bored, eating just cuz you want it).
I read somewhere that losing weight with a band is like a having a car with power steering. You still choose the direction, but it is much easier to go the right way.

The night before I started my liquid diet, I ordered pepperoni, sausage and black olive pizzas for dinner. I intended that meal to be my farewell to pizza and I ate almost an entire medium sized pizza myself.
I am six months past my surgery date and nearly 50 lbs lighter. Tonight for dinner, I ordered that same pizza and I savored every delicious bite. However, tonight I was satisified after I almost finished a single slice.
I am in the "green" zone and there is nothing that I cannot eat.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't recommend the band to a vegan. Hard Proteins like fish, chicken and red meats give us the satiety we need to be successful. I'm sure there are some who have been successful but I would think the % goes down for those who don't eat meat.< /p>

My doc said none for at least 9 months post op. I tried something carbonated once and it made me uncomfortable and gassy. I haven't wanted anything carbonated since. It didn't hurt, but it didn't feel "right".
I drink a lot of tea: hot, iced, herbal, black . . . such a variety.

Dulci reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Rec'd devastating news and all I want to do is eat.
Hon, you simply can't do that. Period. It's eating your emotions that got you here needing the Lap Band to begin with.
I recently went through a very hard spring. In a matter of 3 months time, I had my gallbladder out, I had a tummy tuck/skin removal/hernia repair surgery, my grandma died (whom I was extremely close to), my uncle died (suddenly only a month after my grandma), I had my first serious MS exacerbation in years, and I almost died from life threatening blood clots in both legs. Quite frankly, I think this may have likely been the worst spring of my entire life.
I got to over 400 pounds being an emotional eater. I'm STILL an emotional eater by instinct. But, even with this hellish couple months, I didn't give in and I didn't gain weight.
You have to make a conscious decision that you worth more than that. You may be upset now but just think how much more upset you'll be if you gain weight on top of everything else? Then, you'll want to eat more because you're upset over gaining weight, which of course will only make you more upset and want to eat even more. It's a viscous, nasty cycle you have to break.
Hang in there and I'll keep your brother in my prayers.

Dulci reacted to delete account in bad weekend!
I know how you feel. We all do. Let me tell you something: even when you do everything right, you are going to get an occasional day when you, inexplicably, weight more than you did the day before. It happens; doesn't always make sense, but it does. Who knows, it may just be a matter of Water retention dues to some salty stuff you had the day before. A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling real good about my progress. So I went to Jack in the Box for a couple of their tacos (which I love) for lunch. 4.4oz, including the little bags they come in. Yes, I weighed them.
The next day, the scale said I had gained 1.2 pounds.
    "How the hell?"
You just gotta roll with the punches darlin'. Don't let some temporary bad news set you back further by eating bad stuff. Don't beat yourself up over it.
    It's a marathon, not a sprint.
    Hope this helps.

Dulci got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Food Issues with the band need help!
I would suggest that you start logging everything you eat. It will help you to see what you are consuming - calories, fat, sodium, Protein. There are several apps and internet sites. A lot of people use www.myfitnesspal.com The site will help you to find a recommended calorie level for safe weight loss. It has a lot of foods already entered so you just have to search for them and select them.
If you have never tracked what you are eating, it can really be an eye-opening experience.

I had my gallbladder remove exactly one year after I had my band placed. It was not the way I planned to spend my first bandiversary. My band did not have to be unfilled. If you have any further questions, let me know.

Great article but we don't have 20 cent pieces here in the states and a 5 cent piece is a nickel here and is bigger than I would think the hole would be? Can you think of something more universal? Marbles? Pencil diameter? 10 millimeters ID?

I love popcorn and eat it regularly. I put regular kernels in a brown paper bag and microwave it. I top it with real melted butter and salt. Popcorn is my go to food when I need a boost of Fiber.< /p>

I'm truly sorry you feel this way. I'm also sorry you didn't receive helpful information before you got the band.
But you need to realize that would be the case no matter which WLS you choose- band, sleeve, or bypass- they are just tools. It will always be up to you to make smart food choices. It will always be up to you to control yourself so you don't over-eat. You can over-eat with any of the surgeries if you want to. In fact, this is exactly why we're seeing so many band over bypass patients- because they've chronically overate and stretched their pouch. The same happens with the sleeve.
And btw, the majority of bandsters do not have throwing up episodes. In fact, vomiting is very dangerous with the band and should be avoided at all costs. Most of us never have them unless we're ill.
I understand what you're saying about eating beyond satisfaction. A lot of us have done this chronically before WLS. Myself included. There is a very popular saying around here "the band goes around your stomach not your head". That's because while the band can greatly help deal with the physical aspect of hunger it can't change our unhealthy head habits when it comes to food.
You have an amazing tool at your disposal. Why not learn to use it rather than giving up before you even start?
    Best wishes.

    1. Parking on the top floor of the parking garage on purpose and taking the stairs by choice. Some mornings I used to use my DH's disabled parking pass because my knees hurt too badly to walk.
    2. Folding clothes. I keep thinking that my shirts shrank in the dryer because they are so small. I slip them on, and they fit! *I* wear a size small.
    3. Seeing my PCP. Last time, she told me to check in with her next year, unless I have something pop-up sooner. No more quarterly visits for med refills.
    4. Going to the beach.
    5. Looking in the mirror.

You are experiencing what many call "bandster hell". The swelling from surgery has gone down; you haven't had any fills and your appetite is back with a vengeance. This is where YOU have to do the work by following the bandster rules: Protein first, eat slow, chew well, and stop eating when you are satisfied. You can get through this!!

It seems like you are having a lot of "liquid calories" like juice and Soups. I was told to avoid anything liquid with calories because you are getting calories but the band isn't able to help you feel satisfied from the intake.
