Why the Shock and Disdain for WLS
I haven't had surgery yet and have never encountered people like your coworkers. If I was you, I would come up with a good lie as to why you are losing weight and taking time off work, because that attitude is something I wouldn't want to put up with before surgery. After you are thin, healthy, active and much happier you will probably not care what they think of you.

EXCITED AND THANKFUL!!
I am glad you no longer feel alone. That is not a good feeling. Same here! I met my surgeon yesterday and he told a tech "she was very knowledgeable throughout the whole appointment". When I asked him what bougie size he uses he said "interesting question" & smiled! LOL I think he was surprised and amused I "knew so much". Best wishes on your surgery Sept. 27th surgery!!!

I GOT APPROVED!! by Aetna, date set for Oct 6th
Congratulations! I'm sure I will be nervous too when the time comes. It is a big step, but it will be for the better. I have Aetna too. Did you do the 3 month PCP supervised diet? If yes, how many visits/charts did Aetna require from your PCP? I am trying to figure out if my very first visit will count which will make it a 2 month period, not a 3.

Time flies...
How sweet of you Beaglemamma to answer my question. I loved the details! Please don't wait a whole year to come back. It would be awesome to have you around!

Time flies...
Your story is amazing and right on the day I will meet my surgeon for the first time. Thanks so much for coming back to the site and posting. If you wish, please elaborate about struggling to walk a mile years ago and how many pounds you lost. It will be great to know where you were years ago in comparison to this fantastic athlete you have become! Aetna covers VSG. Seems many others are as well.

My "biggest" NSV Yet
Great news! Thanks for sharing!

Should I postpone surgery??
I couldn't agree more. I understand your anxiety. We became parents of our only daughter through adoption, so I know the feeling of going from not having children one day and having a toddler the next. However you have your mother right next door and you already know and love your soon to be foster son, so it will be great! It is a misconception that kids need to eat a lot of junky Snacks and foods. My daughter doesn't despite having an obese mom. In regards to the snacks, if some are unhealthy, buy him stuff you don't like!. Lastly, I would make that call as the previous poster suggested. You might not want to have surgery if that can delay or jeopardize the process. Other than that, go for it if you can! You will want the energy to enjoy all 3 kids! Best wishes.

Make ahead Muffin Melts
I am going to try putting the mixture in individual (Pam sprayed) ramekins, instead of any bread and see how they turn out. Thanks for the recipe. I loved the pictures and the humor on the website.

Protein drinks bothering stomach
I have read on this forum that you can become lactose intolerant after surgery.

Pre-surgery NSV

What do I tell people?
LOL sorry you got lost in the shuffle. The hiatal hernia sounds like a good one. Look it up. People here have recommended it before.
-
What do I tell people?
Agreed! However my point was that on your first post you said " I have never lied" when telling people you lost weight by cutting carbs, exercising & increasing your Water. I happen to think that is a lie, so we will just agree to disagree.

50 down!!!
You are forgiven.

50 down!!!
You ignored my post and I'm a tad hurt , but I still want to say that you should write posts like this so we hear all sides of the story. It has great value. Again congratulations!
-
50 down!!!
First of all, congratulations! I haven't had surgery yet, so I am having difficulty understanding what you are doing differently than others. You eat protein first and you are not overeating. What is different? That you eat carbs after the protein?

Potential Side Effects list
I love the list. The "no aspirin" & "no slow release" have been addressed. I wonder if there is a consensus among all surgeons when it comes to this. I had to have gallbladder surgery after losing 50 pounds very slowly on Weight Watchers, so I guess that one applies to all weight loss. Aren't all thin people always cold? (My old coworkers loved placing their freezing hands on my cheeks to show me how cold they were. ) I hope someone elaborate on the nutritional deficiencies and the Iron & calcium deficiencies.

What is your favorite Crock Pot Recipe?
Does the Jim Beam sauce sit well in your tummy? I haven't had surgery and perhaps I am thinking about RNY.

Fatty deposit on back of neck
What's one more embarrassing topic? I am hoping it will go away together with most of the fat that has been hanging around my body for a lifetime. Will it?

Goal is so close I can almost feel it...
They are!!!!

Insurance - denied...
I also have Aetna and would have been in exactly your situation had I not been diagnosed with sleep apnea about a month ago. Did you provide weight proof of 2007 and proof of dieting in 2009 (like Weight Watchers or gym receipts)? I would hope this and a peer to peer from your surgeon would do the trick or else they are punishing you for trying to lose weight. Try posting a thread about this. I can't imagine you are the only one that has gone through this. Best wishes.
