lea3277 reacted to peanut2772 in Band to sleeve revision question.
Oh and honestly vsg feels more natural! I remember washing dishes and my wedding band slipping around on my finger that's how I imagined the lapband inside of me slipping around.... :-/ and sure enough it was doing that too.. I went to bed every night hoping relief would come soon to remove that appliance from my insides and so glad I did!

    Lapband placed: 8/2011
    Lapband removed: 3/2017
    VSG: 8/2/2017

lea3277 got a reaction from peanut2772 in Band to sleeve revision question.
I had a band place June 2011, lost 100 lbs., and then began having complications all to gain the weight back. Not only did I gain the weight back, I gained two different sites of horrible pain, both the band and port. The port site was almost too much to bear. I had my band revised to a sleeve due to complications last Thursday and so far, I feel such a sense of relief having that contraption out of me! I have had an excellent recovery and jokingly asked the doctor if he actually did the sleeve.. Hoping to make the best of my second chance! I'm having a hard time not overdoing it after surgery!

I'm a basket of anxiety on any given day, but I had band removal and revision to gastric sleeve this past Thursday and I am doing awesome. You just have to put your fears aside and give it to God. I finally decided that I couldn't go on living overweight and miserable with a messed up lapband, so basically either way, having procedure & passing or living miserably with the band/extra weight, was a risk with death as consequence each day. You have a reason to be a little scared - it's a serious surgery- but as long as you've researched and found a good surgical group with whom you feel comfortable, you will be fine. I'm in my early 30's too and can relate to some of what you have mentioned. Don't stop now. You will have a forum of supporters, along with all those family members and friends you wrote letters to, AND your physician group. Go get 'em Jacob. You've got this!!

lea3277 reacted to SeaLegs in Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op
Just had my 2 week appt, but really it was 10 days. I came home 3# heavier than the day of surgery, and am now 2# less. My surgeon laughed when I told him how all the people on the blog already had the pounds melting off at this point. He told me I was still post op and healing, and was surprised that I was exercising (albeit just a little). He said I would be very pleased starting a month after surgery and everything was going as expected. So maybe it's not a stall, but a "haven't gotten going yet".

I am going to dinner tonight for my anniversary. I plan to just have a cup of Soup. I know that I can handle that. I think in the future, I will share a salad and plate with the wife and/or kid. That way, I don't have leftovers, and don't feel bad about spending a lot on a few bites of food. It will definitely save on food costs as well. A friend of mine that has been banded will only order the healthiest appetizer that they offer, and eat on that until she gets full. She will then take the rest home. She said that ordering the appetizer helps her to avoid questions from the waiter about whether or not she liked her food.

That is weird. I thought the sleeve was always an inpatient thing, as they need to test for leaks. This is new to me.

So, I had a fill and have definitely had restriction, but my scales are just stuck! I've counted every calorie that's gone in my mouth, drank more Water than I cared to drink (200 oz) per day, and I'm active. What's my deal? Trying to stay motivated, but it's getting harder when I don't see results. On my first band journey I lost so fast!

I wouldn't do it either. the problem with wl pills is that the minute you stop taking it you risk the chance of gaining it back double.

lea3277 reacted to srussell8 in Do you ever wish you could eat "normal" again?
Yeah - I got to a point where I missed being able to eat "normal." Then I learned to defeat the band and I ate whatever and as much as I wanted. I returned to my old normal. And I gained back 60 pounds. Then I desperately wanted my band to work again! I was terrified that I had either done something to harm the band or stretched my pouch out so that it wouldn't work again. I hid in that fear and my embarrassment because I didn't want to face it and I didn't want to know if I'd screwed up so badly that it couldn't be fixed.
Then I went in and faced it. I got a fill and my band is fine. I don't guess the pouch has stretched because if I follow the rules, my band stops me just like it used to.
I am soooo grateful to have another shot at this, that I no longer miss eating "normal." There are times I'm eating something really good and I really want to finish it or to have more, just because I'm enjoying it. When the band stops me, I have a momentary flash of frustration and annoyance. Dammit - I want more! Then I remember my fear that I would end up where I started.
And I smile. And stop. And go put my plate in the dishwasher.
I never want to eat normal again!!!

For me I find that it's just experimenting. I thought eggplant parmesan would be a good food choice but for some reason it goes down REALLY slow. Then I tried no-noodle zucchini lasagna and I could eat it no problem! Bananas always cause me problems for some reason. It's more of just a trial and error thing because each dang band is so different. I've also learned certain tricks like for scrambled eggs, if they add Water or milk to 'fluff' them up they are a lot harder to eat for me than if they just mixed the eggs by themselves and scrambled them. I've also learned that if I'm craving bread I can usually use a cracker instead. This works great for lunch meat, tuna salad, etc. It's taken me a long time to learn what my band can and cannot tolerate and it's still a work in progress but I don't miss foods nearly as much as I used to. Good luck with your journey!

lea3277 reacted to carol285 in Need Advice! Unsure if I need some taken out of my band or not.
I have to be honest what your doctor told you doesn't sound right to me if you were totally honest about your pain & how little you could actually drink! I don't think a doctor should be OK with it really. My doctor gets concerned if I can't consume adequate liquid for even 24hrs. How long have you been seeing this new doctor? Also another concern I thought of later was that you have not had your band maintained/observed or whatever the proper word is since 6 months after your surgery so that would add an extra level of concern for me. Did they do the fill by floroscope?

Not going to tell anyone else their business, but what you went through is the same I went through....My Dr. told me to wait it out also, with liquids...it too 2 full weeks before I could start eating again...but I'm glad I did wait it out...things did gradually did get better, but never the same....it made that big a difference....that was over 2 years ago...never had Fluid taken out, never needed another fill.....
I thought to myself I knew I needed a fill when I walked into his office...if I had gone back so quickly and had it removed, where would I have been then? Right back where I started? I was determined to change, and that is what happened.
Again, I am not recommending. Just saying the way it happened for me.

So I broke down and had some taken out today. They said I could wait a couple weeks to see if it got better, but it was too uncomfortable. They said it would've been fine since I could drink SOME liquids, but I couldn't stand the pain. Thanks for your help! I'm happy to be back on my journey.....

Thanks y'all! I think I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get just maybe .2cc taken out. I don't think I can get used to this feeling and definitely have no desire to get dehydrated! I would rather take it slow than go from able to eat to vomiting all the time!!

I have watched my mom fight cancer for the greater part of my life - 16 years and she is still fighting. They gave mom 6 months to live in '95 and she beat the odds...woohoo. I have had experiences with people who joke about cancer and it's just hard to deal with when it hits so close to home. There is a difference in an innocent child giggling and asking me why my mother is bald out of curiosity, but for an adult to openly joke about is a little much.
Seeing the raw effects of cancer are sickening and no joking matter. Don't get me wrong, I can joke with the best of the best, but this is not a good lapband coverup joke excuse!
Sorry I got a little lengthy, but I couldn't refrain. I'm just going to be open about my surgery in hopes that someone else can experience the life changing effects of lapband!

you can still go out with friends just be very careful about what you get to eat... order Water so there is no questions about why you aren't drinking when you eat and get something like a salad, or chicken, egg, or tuna salad or even just a cup of Soup. while the band does change what we eat it shouldn't stop us from living our lives
