NWgirl got a reaction from jsbk in Experimental Eating Post Lap-Band
The chest pain is a sign that some foods don't want to go down so well, so be cautious and extremely mindful when eating them.
I have found as my band was tightened that eggs tended to disagree with me, although I can eat them sometimes- something with the consistency doesn't allow me to chew as well as I need to so that they go down properly.
I also found that breads can be iffy. If the bread is toasted or thin, it works better, but super soft breads or thick breads end up gumming together in my pouch and cause unnecessary pains.
Another tip I was told from my nutritionist was to time meals for 20 minutes and when the 20 minutes is up, stop eating.

Have you told your husband firmly to stop buying the crap for you? Sometimes this change can be rough for our partners- they somehow get it in their minds that when we lose the weight, we will suddenly become new people who will move on to bigger and better fish.

Wow, congrats on your journey thus far! I, too, would have been a little taken aback by such a long trip, but it really is worth it!
If you love My Fitness Pal, I would recommend looking into Fitbit. It is this awesome calorie counter/pedometer/activity level/stair flight tracker that is extremely motivating (to me, at least!).

This is sad I'm glad that your surgeon elected to not put the band in, some would have probably done it anyways to get money. I know that hernias can cause the band to slip, so maybe he determined it was too big of a risk?
I hope you find something that works for you. The best of luck to you.

NWgirl reacted to waitingpatiently in Medicare/medicaid......really?
I agree with you about the medicaid....I'm all for helping out my fellow american...but not for the rest of their lives!! So i guess it becomes a discussion as to how long a person should be allowed to stay on medicaid? And should it not just be the basics? Should it be a better plan than most of american have? I don't think so. I actually changed jobs one time simply because I needed better health benefits. If a person is handedeverything they need, a home, food, insurance....what is the incentive to do better.
Now medicare is different. We pay into medicare through our payroll taxes. Because peoples insurance is usually linked to their employer when a person retires or becomes disabled they need to have something to take over. They have earned it. Then discussion turn to is lapband a elective surgery? Or is it a neccessary treatment? I say it is a treatment. If a person is successful on lapband, it will actually save the tax payers money. One avoided triple bi-pass heart surgery will more than pay for a lapband surgery and all the follow up care. Think of all those that have had LB and avoided becoming diabetic and all the money that is paid to treat a diabetic patient....same with heart disease.
I think all commerical insurance company should be made to cover it. It has been proven to be a successful treatment.

Unfortunately, the cost is a risk you took in getting the surgery. Who would pay for the removal if not you?
Most banded folks find that after awhile, the pain of eating certain food outweighs eating the food and they choose not to eat it.

Keep your chin up. I still think about food often, but not nearly as much as before. I have heard some people always struggle with the mental aspect and some forget to even eat!

I love your attitude. I knew if my insurance didn't approve me, I would have also found another way. Keep your head up, and I "hope" you have sleep apnea

if you live with these people, you can't expect them to change their eating habits because you are changing yours. They probably don't know what to say to comfort you right now, and maybe you are feeling low because of the liquid diet and not having food as an emotional crutch.
it will all get better soon, keep your chin up don't take things so personally (much easier said than done).

bless your heart, girl I was there too; the ins denied me 3 times and then on the 4th try I had my Rhumetologist call them saying I had fibromyalgia and sure enough i was approved the very next day and my surgery was june 30th 2011. as for pain, I wish I could tell you it didnt hurt...sorry...right when I came too in the recovery room it sucked ass, it hurt so freaking bad I cried. however oddly enough the pain didnt last that long (5-10 min) and it was like nothing happened. lol...girl my point is dont think about the pain, think about the future you will have being smaller. also as for cheating, I did aswell. the only way you wouldnt have it is if you cheated everyday. you will be fine! if you need anything let me know, Ill do my best to walk you through

NWgirl got a reaction from myjourneyagain in Lapband Or Gastric Bypass
I knew that if I was going to do a procedure, it would be the gastric banding. I just think gastric has so many more risks, and even though the weight loss may be faster, I could not overlook the problems.
Don't get me wrong, I've known people who have had bypass and have done great, but it's not for me. You will decide in time what is best for you.
