  1. Clear Liquids......so no cream Soups for me! Oh well! Thanks for the words of wisdom!
  2. I am at the end of week one of a two week liquid only diet, and I am struggling. I dislike the protein shakes, I chug them without breathing through my nose! LOL!!!! I made my family several meals last night so they have things to eat and I don't have to go into the kitchen. One of those things I made was a meat sauce and tortellini, and it is calling me. But I refuse to answer! I will not screw this up by eating....could you please give me some words of wisdom? Let me know if you have any tips. How did you get through your pre-op diet? Thanks for letting me vent. I WILL do this, I am just not very happy about it!
  3. I use a plastic shaker that I got from GNC. It has a metal wire ball inside that helps shake up the liquid and the powder. It works really well. Sometimes when I want to add crushed ice I will use my blender, but otherwise it is the plastic shaker, and it rinses out really easily, which is important, 'cause I am on 4 shakes a day!!!!
  4. Open can, heat to boiling, pour into bowl!!!! LOL! Sorry, couldn't resist! broth is my saving grace, in the midst of Protein shakes and SF popsicles, it is nice to have something hot to eat!!!!!
  5. Had mine on Friday! No upper GI, thank goodness! Bloodwork, EKG, chest x-ray and paperwork. Just a nutrition class and clearance from my PCP and then surgery on the 2nd! Woo Hoo!!!
  6. I am envious....mine is just 4 protein drinks and 64 oz. of fluids....I would love to "crunch" a veggie or two! LOL! I started on Tuesday and have surgery on August 2nd. Good luck with your surgery!
  7. I am on a very strict 2 week liquid diet. 4 protein shakes and 64 oz. clear fluid. Not as awful as it sounds. I actually am in good spirits and not having any headaches! That's what mine is like! Good luck with your surgery!
  8. I submitted my preliminary paperwork and had my seminar May 17th and I am scheduled to have surgery August 2nd. At times it seemed to drag, but now it seems like I am on fast forward!!!!
  9. Just got mine for August 2nd~wow! my head is spinning!
  10. I will be sleeved August 2nd! She offered me the first available date with the stipulation that I would start my liver reducing diet right away. So I just packed up what I would have had for lunch and dumped my diet coke down the sink. I will stop off at the store and the cafe at the doctors office and get what I need for my pre op diet! I was going to say goodbye to all my favories with a tour of all my favorite restaurants and bake one last batch of my killer chocolate chip cookies, but not anymore! I am done! Hello new me! This will be an adventure! Woo Hoo!! *happy dance, happy dance...cha cha cha*
  11. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. I wish I had a magic wand to wave and all your problems would be solved. I am pre-op and waiting for approval, so I know the anticipation and the anxiety with wanting this procedure so badly and any road block makes me crazy! Hang in there. We are here if you need to vent!
  12. Thank you both for your replies! Having jumped through so many hoops, the waiting is crazy!!!!!
  13. There are so many BCBS companies out there, do they all have the same policies? I have BCBS of WNY and am waiting for approval and I have read alot of BCBS's feel the sleeve is investigational. Anyone out there have BCBS and they were approved first time out? SO anxious about getting approval!
  14. Thanks for all the replies! It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how old we get, how far away we may be or how long it has been since we have seen them, that parental approval is so important! I just don't want to ever dissapoint them, but I have to take care of me first! Thanks again, all! XO
  15. I wasn't going to tell my mom about my WLS plans. She is 86 and lives far away from me and my family. I love my mom and she is wonderful but I didn't want to worry her. Then I realized how hurt and angry she would be if I told her after the fact. So last week I told her. She was very easy going and I thought "well, that was easy!" ...nope, not so fast.....she called me back today and wanted to talk to me about my plans. She feels that if I exercise and diet and work hard at it that I will lose the weight. She feels like I haven't tried hard enough. I told her I heard what she was saying and that I appreciated her concern and I know that she was coming from a place of love, but wow I felt like crap after I hung up with her. Intellectually I understood the phone call, but emotionally it was devastating. But I will stay strong with my decision and keep jumping through my hoops and move forward towards the insurance approval and surgery date! Thanks for listening, I really needed to vent! XO
  16. The NERVE of her having a private personal life!!! Doesn't she know she should be there to cater to all our needs! Hmmphh! LOL!!!!! Okay that being said...I am sorry you have to wait....I think this waiting for the office to call and jumping through hoops is infuriating. And even though all the post op folks tell me that this will seem like a blur when I look back, living through it can be exasperating! Hang in there! My thoughts are with you!
  17. Thank you everyone! I am so thankful for the kind words. "This too shall pass"!
  18. I had an appointment with the surgeon about 2 weeks ago, he needed a form faxed from my PCP, more blood work, and the results of my psych eval, then they would submit to the insurance company......check, check and check...and I waited, (not too patiently, sorry to say). Today I received a letter in the mail stating that my psychologist has recommended that I make an appointment with the nutritionist, and nothing will be submitted for approval until they get the report back. They said expect this to take at least 2 weeks or more. If I had known that was the case, I would have made the appointment 2 weeks ago!!! GRRR.....sorry, needed to vent...I am literally losing sleep over this! This stinks!!!!!!
  19. My pre op (when I get there) will be a liquid diet of 4 protein shakes and 64 oz. of clears for 2 weeks....I am not to scared of it...it will be cleansing and a good prep for the post op eating! Good luck with your pre-op preparations!
  20. I really don't plan on telling her, but I certainly won't keep it a secret, I am sure she will notice what I am or am not eating. And yes, she will take full credit for my decision! LOL!!! I will just grin and bear it!!!!
  21. Mine was almost anticlimatic......he asked me a few questions about my childhood, alot of questions about my eating habits, chastised me for not eating vegetables (!!!??!!!) and then handed me a booklet with 500 true and false questions to complete. I was kind of hoping to get into the "why" of my eating, but I guess I will find a therapist to help me through that. I was all wound up about my psych eval and it ended up being rather boring and non-eventful. Good luck with yours. I hope it goes well for you!
  22. So I survived the "attack"!!!! She started when someone handed her a wine cooler..."oh no, I can't have carbonation, you know, (in a whisper) because of the bypass"...sigh....I excused myself and went outside. A little while later she "hit me" again....."Oh those chips look so good, wish I could enjoy them like you do".....B*%ch!!! I smiled said, "yes they are tasty" got up and went inside....It was almost comical....I have to thank you all 'cause all I could think about was coming back here and letting you know how it went! Thanks for the support!!!!
  23. "how lovely, how great....how lovely, how great....how lovely, how great....." I am practicing right now! LOL!!!
  24. What about compression shorts? Under Armour makes them ( I am sure others do too but I am familiar with UA). Both my boys wear them for sports...football, track, wrestling.....they come in both mens and womens.....good luck!!!!
  25. I am pre op waiting for insurance approval. I have been jumping through hoops for months. I have only told my best friend and my husband and kids. I am going to a party tonight were my husbands cousin is sure to be a guest. She is a gastric bypass patient (about 2 years post op) and has done really well and talks about it ALL THE TIME! How I should look into it and how much it will help me. How she can't understand why I wouldn't want to have this life saving surgery, look at how well she looks and how happy she is. She will go on and on and on about what she eats and drinks and her poops and her tummy tuck....it is exhausting. And I need to keep my mouth shut!!! I refuse to become a topic of discussion for her. I would wager a guess that she is not familiar with VSG but I am sure she would have an opinion about it and how her way is better. And if I did say something and insurance ended up not approving me, that's all I would hear in the next year...how her insurance is better and if I had tried for a bypass I would have been approved....blah, blah, blah.... I don't even want to go to this party, but I love my neice to pieces and want to Celebrate her b'day with her! So, I am just trying to dig deep for the strength I will need to defend myself from this woman.....I think I will spend alot of time avoiding her! Please send helpful vibes!!!!!!!!
