I am 5 weeks out from my surgery. And I miss eating, still. I get so frustrated that I can only eat a few bites, or I can't have a little bit of everything on the dinner table because I fill up so quickly with my meat or Protein. My nutritionist says I should be able to eat a little more eventually, as the stomach heals completely, but never more than 1 cup of food total at a meal. I find I have to eat about every three hours or I get nauseated. And it is getting easier with time. I too am finding those little signals of "full" (hiccups usually!) and I too have overeaten twice with miserable results, and that is training me to pay more attention to my body. I know the farther out I get, it will be become my new routine. And I love what someone said about a breakup with food...it really is. I miss it terribly!! I just have to focus on other positive things in my life and take it one day at a time. Thanks to everyone who shares their experience!

Hi there, I had my surgery at the same place, with Dr. Billings!! I am 3 weeks post-op today. The staff there are wonderful. I was worried about going home the same day, and truthfully, I wish I had been able to stay overnight as I got very sick the day I went home. However...did they give you a prescription for nausea, one pill to take at 3:00 a.m. the morning before surgery? If so, TAKE IT. I was told by a nurse during my pre-op appt. that it was optional, and since my insurance charged a higher co-pay for just the one pill, I didn't get it. Dr. Billings was not happy that I had been told that, because he said it is not optional, that I would really need it for nausea. They gave me extra nausea meds. in my IV the morning of the procedure, but it didn't help. I vomited all afternoon after I got home, and all night long. The next morning, I was very dehydrated and needed several bags of fluids. They kept me most of the day to make sure I was okay, giving me nausea & pain meds. thru the IV. They said everyone is different, but if I'd had that nausea pill, I probably wouldn't have been so sick. The liquid percocet they give you manages the pain well, as well as the valium. Take them both religiously the first few days to stay comfortable. Other people I have talked to weren't near so sick, so I don't want to freak you out or worry you. I hesitated sharing my experience since it was kind of rough the first few days. But also want to assure you that they will take good care of you, and they are only a phone call away. I had a one week post-op appt. and I was doing fine. They gave me pictures of the surgery and the piece of stomach they took out! When are you scheduled? I wish you the best!! You'll do great, I'm sure! Cathi so, i keep reading about how people spend 2 or 3 days in the hospital- if you had laprascopic vsg outpatient surgery, please chime in! i have to go in the next morning for fluids, and there is a hospital very close by if there are complications, which i'm not worried about- guess i'm more worried about pain management... no nurse at my beck and call...would appreciate your experience!

I was feeling the same way a little over a week ago...and now I am 2 weeks post-op and on the upswing of things. Everyone is different in their post-op, but it does get better. I was absolutely miserable and couldn't believe I'd done what I did...but time does heal, physically & emotionally! Just the past five days or so have been a huge improvement for me since my surgery on June 8. Good advice to check in with dr. They gave me valium for spasms and it helped tremendously. Hang in there...and feel better =)

I wouldn't have gone without my CPAP!! I've had it for several years and cannot sleep without it. And after a previous surgery several years ago, I wanted it in post-op and they wouldn't let me bring it in. I hate that feeling of suffocating. Even tho I went home the same day after my sleeve surgery, I took it with me to use while dozing after the surgery, and I took it with me the next day when I had to go back for rehydration (I vomited all night, unfortunately, and spent the whole next day at the surgery center getting meds. and fluids). And I was able to just put it on and doze and rest so much comfortably. But no one should be forcing you to use it, I would think. But if this is new to you and you are not used to it, I can see how it would be bothersome. Just throwing my two cents in for anyone else who considers this question!! Best of luck =)

Thanks so much for posting about your feelings, and for everyone who has responded. I really needed to hear this today. My surgery was on Wed. June 8. Yesterday, Sunday, was really lousy. I missed eating; I wanted to taste something and feel something in my mouth. Then I started having diarrhea, and that progressed to that point it was explosive & I was not even making it to the bathroom and I ran out of underwear and the dog was in my way and I just felt like screaming and crying and throwing a fit!!!! I felt like a huge failure. I finally was able to get my meds. down (I hate splitting them into quarters, takes forever to get them down) and at 8:00 I'd had enough and went to bed. Today I still feel emotional and weepy. But the diarrhea is gone, thank God. Stomach is still a little rumbly. I think I am a little dehydrated, as i feel weak and can't concentrate on anything. So I"m trying to keep the Water & crystal light going; had a Protein drink and I felt a little better after that too. I have my post-op check up tomorrow morning. I know I will make it through. But I'm so relieved to hear that I"m not the only one thinking "what in the world have I done????" Thanks!

I too was wondering about the diarrhea. Info. I had read about the sleeve post-op said to expect "looser stools". I had my surgery on Wed. June 8. I had my first BM yesterday, Saturday. It was diarrhea...no solids. Surprised me. My stomach was doing all the rumbling too...had no idea what was doing on in there! But it rumbles, then I have to run to the bathroom. I became very dehydrated the night/day after my surgery (a lot of vomiting) so am trying to stay on top of all my fluids so I stay hydrated. Still having a little pain, taking the Roxicet about every 6 hours or so. The narcotics usually make me very constipated, so I was surprised by the diarrhea. Glad to know my tummy isn't the only rumbler out there! C.
