DrmBig4Evr reacted to Sharon's last chance in Progress at almost 9 months out.
I had Surgery on May 17, 2012. My highest weight, about 3 months before surgery was 374. I lost 54 pounds pre- surgery. Weight on day of surgery was 320. Post op I have lost 107 pounds, for a total of 161 Pounds. I am off most of my medications and feel so much better. At my max I wore a size 32/4x. I am currently wearing size 18/2x and in some styles can almost get away with a 16. In spite of some complications which kept me feeling pretty miserable for the 1st 3 - 4 months, this is one of the best things I have ever done. I'm not sure exactly what my final goal will be, but I think I want to lose another 50 pounds.
I'd like to add before. and current pictures but haven't figured that out yet. This surgery has given me back my life and I couldn't be happier. I really appreciate all the support and information that is shared here.

Hey! So I came up with this with the help of my mom. I'm sure there are probably other people who thought of it before, but I wanted to share just in case there wasn't!
I took lean ground angus beef (I looked for bison - which would be better because it has less fat, but couldn't find any) and put it on top of multigrain tostitos and cheese on top of that, then I broiled it for a minute in my toaster oven and dipped those chips into fat free Greek yogurt in place of sour cream (it tastes exactly the same!!!)
It's a great way to get Greek yogurt in which is high Protein and absolutely delicious alternative to real nachos. I had to make it tonight because I was craving nachos like no tomorrow!
I attached a picture! I hope others try it and love it as much as I do! Oh! And I know it looks like a lot in the picture - don't worry I didn't eat it all! I could only fit in 3-4 chips and the rest I'm saving for lunch even then I probably won't finish! And I even used a small side plate! :S

Just tell them you are on another "diet" and thought this might be helpful way of keeping you motivated. it is true and if you are like me, they are used to being on a diet "of the month".

I have only told my kids. I intend on telling my exhusband as he will be taking me to the hospital. I may tell my parents, but only after, AND ask them not to say a word to any of my other family. On the same token I am not going to lie either. If someone asks, I'll let them know, but right now, its my personal journey. I want to be focused mentally and be prepared physically through the process and not allow any external factors interfere or ridicule me for MY decision. I am not telling anyone at work unless asked also.

Ok, I was just watching something and it reminded me about this post! So this really isn't on the subject of "tracking" weight loss, BUT it is about our commitment to weight loss. What about putting a ring on our dominant hand so that when we reach for food we are reminded of our commitment to ourselves, our family and our life? Similar to a wedding ring, just a regular ring that can hold up over the years that can remind us daily of this commitment...

Earplugs! Several pair just in case you lose one like I did! It was a Godsend!! Also bring along an eye mask because they just come into your room and switch on the light without earning and it blinds you when you are sleeping. And of course..... A fluffy favorite bed pillow in a colored pillowcase so you don't forget to bring it home. That was a lifesaver and everyone commented what a good idea that was. My roomy was jealous! Hospital pillows are awful!!!!

I'm not going to tell anyone but my Mom, Dad, and Husband. I don't want to be the poster child for WL surgery in the family. I want to get my weight off and go on about my life. I know my cousin that had lap band. Everyone is always talking about her. What is she eating? She should have lost more. Things like that. I've stuck out for so long with my weight that I just want to be normal. So did you tell?

Had surgery thursday and all went well, had trouble sleeping a couple of nights. Pain was managable and I only stayed one night. I am on Clear Liquids until monday and then I can start phase two with shakes. Looking forward to eating a plain yogurt post op I was 318 and in 4 days I have lost 7 lbs. That helps me stay motivated. I have a 2 year old boy, and the hardest thing is not being able to carry him, but in due time he'll have a healither mommy

I'm new to the forum here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 10 months after surgery and truly loving life. I began my journey needing to drop 98 lbs. I am down 88 lbs post surgery, not having to do any kind of pre surgery diet, so all has been lost since May 1st 2012.
I can't tell you how wonderful the experience has been. I've been very blessed in not having any complications and no problems with any foods or hunger. This has given me a real sense of FREEDOM from all things food, for the first time in my 54 years of life.
As I am reaching my personal goal weight, I thank God each day and can't wait for all the future holds.

Heading south tomorrow (Sunday)! Packed my super tiny light weight suitcase (10 lbs packed!) so no lifting issues for me and nearly ready to go.
I live by myself and am going solo so I've been in a cleaning frenzy today. Yard work and laundry done and everything sparkling clean. Now my distractions are done and it's time for me to just be anxious!
Only downside is the border crossing into Mexico is at a high alert and is taking lots of time due to the horrible manhunt we have going on in Southern California. Ex cop killed several people and is on the loose. Uhm, so yeah, it's safer in Mexico.
Looking forward to being on the other side!

DrmBig4Evr reacted to MichiganChic in THIS is the defining moment
Before surgery, I would go on a diet, and sometimes I would lose weight, sometimes not. Sometimes I would stay with the program for months or longer. Then....inevtably, I would hit a plateau. I remember once it took me a year to lost 50 pounds, then I hit a >6 week plateau. I was doing everything right - super healthy low calorie diet, lots of exercise, good Fluid intake, etc. I told myself I would get through this, afterall, how could I not lose weight? Well, (I know you all know how this story ends), I eventually let the discouragement get the best of me, slowly slipped back into bad habits, and gained the 50 back, plus some.
So, since that time, anytime I tried to lose weight, if I didn't lose fast enough, if I hit a stall for a week or two, or if I didn't lose within the first week, I would just QUIT. It wasn't worth the effort for me. I was miserable being so hungry and my body was fighting my efforts every step of the way.
Fast forward, now I have a new tool to help me. No longer does my body fight my efforts so strongly. I feel like the gift I've been given is to allow me to use WILLPOWER (had it all along, but couldn't overcome the force fighting me). Here's the thing - I'm at the dreaded STALL. I never planned to post a whine about the stall, there are enough of those threads on here with enough good responses from experienced people to know that it happens to everyone, and eventually the scale moves.
And that is my defining, AHA moment. I really do want to whine about this temporary stall because it's my history that teaches me this is where I always fail. I have to remind myself this time is different. I'm not going back to my old ways, I just have to recognize I've changed my life, my habits, and my approach to health, and wait for nature to take it's course. What a releif!

Well I'm 3 weeks pre op diet and 2 weeks post op out and down 50lbs. Man this is just awesome. Fitting into clothes I haven't fit into in a long time. Did some shopping the other day and picked up a 3xlt shirt instead of a 5 xlt. Hard to describe the feeling. Wish I would have done this years ago

I have kept the surgery to myself too. My husband knows as do 2 of much children (my other lives out of state). I am so glad to have kept this secret in part because I have had to work hard to get the weight off. Many people misunderstand weight loss surgery and think the only reason for your success is the surgery. But, I am the one maintaining the diet of 600 - 800 calories per day, I am the one at the gym 6 days a week working out for an hour, I am the one making this surgery work and I don't want to have that hard worked dismissed because I had surgery so my stomach is smaller.
