Lap Band Buddy Guidelines
Why seek out a Lap Band Buddy ? Research shows that people who have a buddy or a mentor in their lives have a greater chance of being successful than those who "go it alone." A feeling of support and belonging often develops to a fuller extent when new people are afforded the friendship and caring of an experienced buddy/mentor. Whether it's a 12 step recovery problem, a professional mentorship, or two people coming together to support each other for a common purpose, having a person to call on when the going gets tough can make all the difference in achieving a positive outcome. What is a Lap Band Buddy/Mentor ? In pursuing the goal of getting to a healthy weight via weight loss surgery, a buddy/mentor is a person who has successfully navigated the journey to a healthier life. A buddy/mentor is NOT a trained therapist, spiritual advisor, marriage counselor, legal advisor, etc. A person who has had weight loss surgery, followed the plan outlined by the surgeon, lost weight, improved his/her health, and has a desire to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE people who are just beginning their journey possesses the qualities that are needed to function in this role. New members are encouraged to establish a buddy/mentor relationship with at least one person. HOW DO YOU GET STARTED ? IT'S AS EASY AS 1-2-3! Create a new post and select a Prefix of "AVAILABLE TO BE A BUDDY/MENTOR" if you're willing to guide a new member on their journey or select "NEED A BUDDY/MENTOR" if you're a new member looking for someone who has been through the process and wants support. In your post, please share information about yourself such as age, gender, marital status, occupation, geographical location, amount of weight lost, amount of weight to lose, etc. This will help in matching people up. Once the buddy/mentor relationship is established, those involved will determine how they want to structure the relationship.

Mentors
You've touched on an idea I've been toying with for quite some time now. I'm extremely familiar with 12 step programs and a huge part in being successful with any of these programs is by getting as well as being what's known as a "sponsor." While almost the entire web site is based upon offering and receiving support I think a one on one approach might work extremely well for many people. I'm going to work on this a little more and give it a trial run shortly. Stay tuned

banded br dr. gonzales almost died
I'm sorry to hear about this terrible ordeal you've been through. Are you ok medically these days ? Are you planning to have another weight loss surgery ? Was an inamed lap band used by Dr. Gonzalez ? Do you know the brand ? If it was, they each have a serial # on them. I haven't heard of too many cases of a faulty band. It's possible for a good band to erode or there are many other complications which may arise due to the docs fault or other causes.

Rep Power
In "theory" rep power isn't a bad idea. I don't think it serves much of a purpose on our boards and I have to agree that it's confusing and sort of pointless to a degree. Rep power has been removed - for good. Next week we're adding bandster profiles where members will be allowed to enter in all of their Lap band info. We plan on including a lot of this info where the rep power used to be. Once this feature is released there will be a boardwide announcement. After that we're going to release integrated tickers right in our control panel.

Tomorrow's my band-day!!!
Congratulations! Happy band day :-) One thing that helped me with my recovery was NOT laying around in bed all day. If you're able, I'd highly suggest walking around as much as possible.

Newbie..
Rochester isn't very close to NYC. If you're willing to make the trek in I'd definitely agree that Dr. Fielding and Dr. Ren are docs you should look into. I personally used Dr. Christine Ren and I think it was THE best decision I've made in my entire life. She's tops in her field, is very personable, has great bed side manners, is pleasent to communicate with etc etc. I could go on and on with praise for her. If you're not interested in coming into NYC try searching for the word Rochester. I'm sure you'll find a few docs mentions here.

New and needing help
I had my lap band procedure over 5 years ago. Back then they only had one port and it actually protruded a little from my belly after I lost all my weight. I had it replaced with a low profile port which is standard these days. My doctor also placed the port under my stomach muscle to make sure it never protruded again. I can feel it if I press my finger into my belly.

Just starting and I have a question . . .
I needed to gain 5-10 pounds before I qualified for my lap band procedure. It's really pathetic but it does make a little sense that the insurance companies need to set guidelines. I went out to eat every night for 2 weeks, I binged and drank malteds daily. It was a piece of cake gaining the weight.
