Post Op Day 6
Sleeved on Monday, home on Wednesday, been sleeping in my recliner ever since. Can't even stretch out in bed it hurts too much. I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into as far as pain. I still would have done it, but oh my goodness. When should I start feeling better? I read on here that some people are going back to work on Day 6. There's no way I could do that! I still have some prescription pain meds left but they're probably not going to last until tomorrow. And I want back in my bed. I am so stiff and crimped up sleeping on this darn recliner. Is this normal? When should the pain go away? Thanks all.

4 Days Post OP
This is the first time I've tried some "food". So here's what I'm eating right now: 1/3 cup tomato Soup pureed with 2 tbsp medium salsa, then heated. On top I added 1/2 once finely shredded cheese (which is melting in the soup) and 1 tsp sour cream. Also added some ground pepper. I never thought I'd be so freaking happy to eat some generic condensed tomato soup but this is actually pretty good. Oh, and the soup is warm, not hot. Not sure I could do an extreme hot or cold yet. Just thought I'd share

Post Op pain
Yes the pain is ridiculous. Post op day 4 for me. Days 1-2 I was sure I was dying or having serious heart problems. Kept up with my pain meds like a champ. I've had 2 previous surgeries but wasn't prepared for this. I had a 7 day pre-op of full liquids only. I am 39. Hope this helps.

When did you feel good post op
Well ladies, I was sleeved Monday and ditto. Feeling rough, time for a nap.

Day 2 after surgery
Tammi, Glad to hear you are doing well. I had a horrible first day post op. Pain and nausea got a little better yesterday so I was able to come home. I've been walking and sipping but my recovery seems to be going really SLOWLY. On the pain scale I'm at about a 6 with meds. Where are you on that scale?

BIG secret... good or bad?
Hi. It's a big decision. I didn't tell my parents or my other family members. I didn't tell my pastor or anyone at chuch either. The only people that I told about my sleeve are my hubby and daughter. They are both very supportive. I just had my surgery Monday and told everyone else we were going on vacation for a few days. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Food and Exercise Journals Required By Insurance
I think it's really difficult to guess what they want. I suggest you contact your insurance company directly and ask them these specific questions. I used a food log typical of something you would find at a Weight Watchers meeting but yours might be totally different. Good luck

Fear and Anxiety Getting to Me
I was just sleeved on Monday and today is my first day home. I'm tired and in more pain than most people but I still don't regret my decision. You will do great and we will all be here cheering you on! You CAN do this

9 Hours until I arrive at the hospital
Just got home a few hours ago. My chest pain was so unreal yesterday that the did 3 EKG's and labs every few hours. My heart rate would not stay above 50. Then I was sent for a lung scan which wasn't fun. They never found anything wrong though and the pain is much less today. I am home now living on Propels and SF popscicles. Still hurting. I guess even after all the information I had, I was still not prepared for how bad I was going to feel. Thanks again everyone! You guys are the best!

9 Hours until I arrive at the hospital
Thank you so much everyone for your warm replies. Been out of surgery around 4 hours. Doc said it all went well but pain is unbelievable. Walked twice around the nurses station so far. Throat hurts. You guys are AWESOME. I love you all much

9 Hours until I arrive at the hospital
Ok, I know you see this all the time but please someone talk me down from my ledge. I've really been great and calm all day. Now I'm going through all the scary feelings. Please, please, send prayers and positive thoughts my way. I promise to update when I'm out of surgery.

Last Day of Pre-op Diet
Today is the last day of my pre-op diet and I'm a little concerned. The first few days I lost 7 lbs. Since Day 4, I haven't lost one bit! Not even 1/2 a pound. I haven't been eating, I've been following the Optifast program getting almost 800 calories per day. Why am I not losing weight? Believe me I am hungry but not giving in to any temptations because I want my liver to shrink and I don't want my surgery cancelled. Why haven't I lost any weight in the past few days? Thanks.

Shoe Size....
I'm an 11w and hope to get to a regular 10. Shoes would be so much easier to find at that size!!!!

Water and Food - Fighting for space?
I am still pre-op but I can tell you it's a LIFE TIME commitment. Since deciding to have the surgery it's been a commitment and it's not likely to change. Taking vitamins daily, monitoring your protein intake and fluids, restricting bad carbs, and exercising (I'm not talking about being a gym rat but at least doing more walking and being less sedintary than we are now). This will be every day for the rest of our lives if we want to work this sleeve to it's fullest. There are some people on this forum that have had their sleeves 2-3 years now and can eat pretty normally but the amount they report eating is far less than they ever used to. There are also some who have gained back 50lbs because they were not following their commitent. Please be sure you are ready for a life time commitment before going through with it. I waited two years to make sure me and my family were ready for all the changes. I mean, let's face it, this doesn't just involve me. Good luck

Surgery Moved UP!!
I'm so excited that my surgery was moved up to Monday. It's only one day sooner but at least that means one more day of recovery before school starts Happy, happy, joy, joy. So today is day 5 of my Optifast and Saturday and Sunday will be Clear liquids only. Ugh. I would love to lick the hot sauce off some chicken wings right now... but I have to keep my eye on the prize (a thinner me!)

August 16th Kaiser Fresno/First day 800 calorie diet today
Big Joe, Congratulations on all the weight loss pre-surgery! You seem to be progressing beautifully! Today is my last day of the 800 calorie liquid / bar diet. Saturday and Sunday it is clear liquids ONLY. Ugh. really not looking forward to that. My surgery was moved up to Monday so I am really excited though. I'll be thinking about you on the 16th.

6 month supervised diet... really???
I'm not an insurance expert but you're 6 months of weight loss and nutrition should count for this time as well. You should not have to do it again. Check with your insurance company. Most only require 6 months of a documented program in the last 2 years. If I were you, I would contact my insurance company and make sure I knew the details of the requirements. Good luck!

6 month supervised diet... really???
I feel your frustration. It seems as though the only way to get out of it is to change insurances or become a self pay. All I can say is go ahead and sign up for the six month program. I know it seems crappy but it's really not that bad. Before you know it, your surgery date will be here! Just go for it! You can do this!

Denied!
Before I decided to get the sleeve a co-worker went throught the whole process and was denied by our insurance. Then she would eat large meals for dinner: cheesesteaks, mac and cheese, etc and then lay down and watch tv and go to bed. Within a month she had the BMI she needed. I'm not suggesting you do this. I'm just telling you what happened to her. Good luck whatever you decide

Frustrated -2 weeks before surgery
Kimberlina, What did they not tell you to do? Something easy to reconcile or not? If it was something like your pre-op diet or a test just get it done. Your doctor's office is making a great deal of money off of you so there is no reason for them to treat you horribly. Let me know how things turn out.

What to take to the hospital
My stay is supposed to be 2 nights also. I'm worried I'll be bored on Wednesday because I have to be there all day with nothing to do. My scheduled release is Thursday afternoon. I also went to Walmart and bought a heating pad yesterday following the advice on here. I'll take that too. Good idea to bring your own protein.
