  1. Hi all. I need some help. My NUT says I should be getting 80 grams of protein a day. I hardly EVER do. I'm averaging 50-60 grams a day. That means I'm around 140 grams low every week. Is this going to hurt me in the long run? I'm really blue about this. I'm afraid I'm doing some damage to my body. My weight loss is going ok. Not complaining about that at all. Can some veterans give me some advice? Thanks.
  2. Rob, you are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your pictures. You inspired me to keep plugging along! Thanks a bunch and great job!!
  3. Update: as of today I've lost 30 pounds!! I'm really happy about it. I still eat a lot but I hardly ever go over 1000 calories. I might not be losing super fast, but HEY, I'm LOSING! I love this sleeve
  4. You probably feel good right now because you are only on liquids. When you start eating food... OMG you will feel the restriction. Even now, almost 6 weeks out, I can eat a yogurt or applesauce pretty well. When I start eating chicken or other dense protein, watch out! The restriction kicks right in! Right now I think you're pretty normal. I think you'll get the real wake up when you get to solid foods like I did. I remember trying to eat refried beans with added water (very thin) and felt like they were so heavy I was going to die. And that was at 2 weeks out. You WILL feel that restriction.
  5. I was sleeved 8/8/11 so it's been almost 6 weeks. The scale hasn't been my friend too often but let me tell you what happened today. Well of course after surgery I began walking in the hospital. They said it would help me heal and relieve my gas. It did. I continued walking at home on our treadmill because I want to be healthy and active. So here's the great part.... My hubby and I went to a state park today and walked a 3 MILE trail with our dog. And this trail was rated "moderate", not "easy". well... I kicked *ss on this trail!! I was so awesome my hubby couldn't even keep up with me! Even the dog was tired when we were done (11 month old Pitt). Two months ago I would have NEVER been able to do that. I'm so proud of myself and I LOVE MY SLEEVE!! Who has a great NSV for this week?
  6. Are you taking previcid or omeprezole?
  7. Hi Mike, Glad you're doing well with your liquids. The gas can be really bad. I ate a whole box of Gas-X chewables the first week. That helped a lot. My gas was worse when I finally tried sleeping in my bed. I would lay down flat and the pain would almost be immediate. I hope you get over it soon. Keep up the good work.
  8. I had a kid sized ice cream cone from McDonald's recently. I am one month out. I would not recommend it. I felt really sick and regretted it. I did not throw up but it came out the other end quite violently. I don't think I would do this again but fat free frozen yogurt might be ok. What about something cold and sweet that you can make? I put a banana, milk, and vanilla Protein powder in a blender then froze it. It didn't take like ice cream exactly but I got my fix and got some protein. I don't think anybody is trying to chastise you. Just encouraging you to make good choices. I don't make great choices every minute of the day but I try very hard and I'm sure you do too. For me, I just don't want this to be another failure on my part so I have to keep myself diligent. Good luck and keep the faith!
  9. @Slimming Sara - when I was in week 2 and couldn't eat anything, my NUT told me to try to get my fluids in the form of something with some substance like v8 juice (low sugar) if you can handle it. This will give you some more calories and some nutrients as well as Fluid. Good luck with that. I'm sure it will get better. @MeMeME - how are you feeling other than eating so few calories? I'm sure the swelling will go down very soon now since we're already a month out. I'm saying a prayer for you.
  10. I've been sleeved one month now and I can eat pretty well. I'm getting 800-1100 calories per day. Sometimes I feel this is a lot! Please tell me how many calories you eat per day and how long you've been sleeved. Thanks everyone!
  11. This might sound kind of funny but I went to see the doc last week for my regular post op check up. He suggested I start taking Miralax daily. Since then I have been "going" once a day and the scale has started to move again. My question is: is the scale moving just because of the Miralax? When I stop taking it, am I going to gain the weight back? I think of all the other failures and how the weight always came back. I really don't want that to happen this time. And I am following all of the guidelines. Thanks.
  12. Please keep us updated and let us know what it is. Good luck
  13. Thank you Papa Jack. I needed some reminders!
  14. Thank you everyone for your input. I'm doing a little better today trying to get back on track. I think the slow weight loss also bums me out and I want to eat but I'm not allowing the old ME to take over again. I WILL SUCCEED AT THIS! And you all are a great support system!
  15. My hubby and I went to a picnic. I ate cubes of ham and cheese, yummy refried beans and baked chicken. Ah but then I ate 2 brownies, a half piece of cheesecake, and tortilla chips! The old Debbie is definitely back and I'm depressed about it!
  16. Sunny, I'm a slow loser too and I was sleeved almost 10 days before you! It's a drag when I don't see the scale moving but I try to concentrate on other NSV's. Like the fact that ONE of my chins is gone (still have 2). lol. and the fact that my clothes fit better than they have in years. I'm sure your body is like mine and it's taking its time to adjust. WE WILL LOSE this weight. And this might sound funny to you, but I found when I was able to start eating, and my calories and carbs went up, that is when the scale moves. Did you join myfitnesspal? If so, look for me on there. My user name is prinxessdeb. Good luck sweetie and keep up the great work!
  17. My surgeon says no caffeine period. But this decaf coffee I drink every morning is just not getting it. I really want to go back to what I was drinking, which was Maxwell House (or any brand) Half & Half. Half is caffinated and half is decaf. Is anyone out there drinking caffeine again? If so, how is it affecting you? Thanks.
  18. I'm going to try this! Thank you.
  19. I eat about 100 carbs per day. I find that lowering my carbs actually stalls my weight loss. If you use a program to log your food, such as my fitness pal.com they actually tell you what a healthy adult should be consuming daily, even to lose weight. You'd be surprised at what's recommended. Having said that, everyone is different, and you should follow your NUT's advice and find what number works for you. Have fun experimenting!
  20. Retried beans taste great but I couldn't handle them early out. My favorite thing to eat was mashed potatoes and gravy with the Unjury Unflavored Protein powder mixed in. I use instant potatoes too! Also, I can handle a soft scrambled egg with maybe an ounce or less of finely shredded cheese.
  21. So I had looked online for like 25 minutes and of course right after posting this question I found the answer. The 4C Half and Half drink mix contains approximately 10mg of caffeine. I'm still going to drink it but not every day. Thanks all!
  22. I bought a package of the 4C Half and Half mix-ins. It's half lemonade and half iced tea. Tastes great. But I can't figure out if it has caffeine in it. Does anyone know? I haven't had any caffeine since being sleeved 18 days ago and I don't want to blow it. Any help/advice is appreciated!
  23. So lately I've been posting about how I've been on the week 2 stall for like 10 days. Well now that the scale is acutally moving... Yes, it moved! I lost 5 pounds since Monday! I want to reflect this on my ticker but I don't know how. I don't want to create a whole new ticker either. I tried making the change in the "edit my signature" section of this website but that doesn't work. Can someone please tell me how to add my new weight loss? Thanks so much.
