  1. I was off for 6 weeks since my company does not allow you to come back to work with restrictions of any kind. I had to use all of my sick and personal time but did not have to use any of my vacation time. After that, short term disability kicked in. I t really was not much of a hassle as far as paperwork. I would recommend talking to someone in HR to see what your company's procedures are for applying for short term disability.
  2. Hi all, I just needed to vent and get some opinions from others. So, I went out to eat with my mother tonight to Ruby Tuesday's (can we say yum?) She had weight loss surgery almost 30 years ago and I have had mine. I choose to be kind of tight lipped about my surgery and she will openly tell anyone about hers. So we ordered our food, appetizers for both of us and she was telling the waitress that we both have reasons that we can't eat that much, yada, yada, yada without ever "saying" we had surgery. She did the same kind of thing when we got to go boxes for our food. Now, granted she has done this explaining ever since she had her surgery, but it aggravates the dickens out of me. I mean, really, does the waiter/waitress really care what you order or how much you eat of it??! Do I owe them an explanation? No! However for some reason she feels she has to explain it, and now explain it for me as well. I have told her how I feel about it, but it doesn't change anything. It's just frustrating! Anyways, how do feel about it - do you explain or not when you go out to eat. By the way, if I were asked if the food was okay, because of how little I ate, I would just say "Yeah, my eyes were just bigger than my stomach." Lol, how true is that now? Thanks for the read, look forward to some opinions on this.
  3. I adore LEI jeans. My waist is much smaller than my thighs and these are the only jeans that actually fit me all over. Love 'em!
  4. Thanks, just ordered the book, looking forward to trying it out....thanks for the info.
  5. You look great and what a beautiful smile, congrats!
  6. Which would you suggest starting with, book or dvd (for a beginner)?
  7. I used my recliner the first day only, then my bed (which is a climb up) with no problems. I don't think I would have spent money on a recliner just for recovery, maybe one of those really big reading pillows with the arms on them would be a cheaper option.
  8. Hmmm, well, here's hoping being on the younger side and exercise will help out. I'm not looking for perfection, just don't want to look like a deflated balloon, lol.
  9. Okay, so I've got a total of about 150 to lose and I'm about 1/3 the way (yay!). I've been doing some resistance training and have yet to really notice a difference in my arms or bat wings rather....if anything they've started winging more than before. Any encouraging words from 100+ pound losers?Other than surgery?
  10. Ahhh, yes, temptations!! My downfall is Starbucks Coffee ice cream, yum!
  11. Yeah, I didn't have any complications either (unless you consider plantar fasciatis (sp?) a complication, lol). I did mess up once and had to throw up but it was when I first started on solids again. You're doing great, my exercise program isn't nearly as dedicated as yours, I'm just doing some strength training 3-4x a week and increasing activity through the day. so go you, lol. I'd love to meet up, maybe after summer....I don't do well with heat at all (even that is improving with surgery - amazing!)
  12. Oh wow! I live in Montevallo....we're practically neighbors! I had my surgery in March in Huntsville. How has your experience been with the sleeve?
  13. Thanks for the replies. I know it's not good to forget to eat, but looks like I'm not alone in this struggle. Maybe some of these tips will help.
  14. I do pretty good with my eating during the week when I have a set schedule, but on weekends that all flies out the window. Since surgery I NEVER feel hungry so on weekends, I'm bad about not eating. Anybody else dealing with this? How do yo make yourself remember food when it's become not that big a deal?
  15. Thanksso much for the info ladies, guess I'll be doing some research this weekend.
  16. I had outpatient surgery. It was fairly uneventful for me. I woke up from surgery and actually had a faulty pain pump, only working the first time, but it was far from more than I could handle, uncomfortable yes, but bearable. The only real problem I had was getting my kidneys to work after surgery, and they threatened me with a catheter, which made me very dedicated to getting them to work, lol. Best of luck - and a side note, my doc did say that most insurance companies would approve a longer stay if there are any complications, so if there is a reason for you to stay longer, you will. I even stayed 2 hours after my allowed time "off chart" .
  17. Hi, I would love to take up belly dancing but there are no classes in my area. Can anyone recommend a good beginner video or warning of which to avoid?
  18. Thanks ladies, I didn't even think about the possibility of acid. I have a PPI but don't take very often since I really don't like taking pills much at all. Since I like being choked less, guess I'll be taking some pills, lol. Thanks all!
  19. Speaking of just sitting there, I used my riding lawnmower for the first time yesterday (old and far from a zero turn type) and I gotta say, owwie! My abs are tender, and my biceps are killing me! Apparently lawnmowers don't have power steering, lol!
  20. Just wondering if anybody else gets a feeling of constriction in their throat? I notice once or twice a day my throat feels very tight - almost like someone has their hand on my throat. Sometimes it's after eating, and sometimes hours after eating. If you have had it, have you found a trick to minimize the feeling?
  21. I had 1 incision that got infected. I was told to clean with peroxide 2x a day and I covered with a breathing gauze. Tape 3 sides of a gauze pad on it, leaving one side open, for it to breathe and help to "dry up". As always though, follow what YOUR surgeon says.
  22. I'm far from an expert, but have you tried playing with Protein and carb counts?Increasing protein amount for a week or so,or increasing carbs (fruits and veggies) for a while to shake things up a bit? Maybe you've been too good at following the same rules and your body has adapted to it. Also make sure Water is at a good level? I know the weeks I eat a little more (more grazing during the day) I tend to lose more. Just a suggestion to try? Hope things get better, and I agree, not comparing is the hardest part of this journey. You see all these super success stories and when you don't match up, well, it just kinda sucks! On the other hand, this has been the easiest weight loss strategy I have ever had.
  23. I haven't done any shopping yet. I tend to wear "stretchy" pants and lean more towards over-size clothing anyways. My family keeps telling me I need new clothes though, but they're just not that important to me yet....maybe in a couple of sizes it'll be more important. For now, loving my yoga pants If you're a clothes horse, go for it as long as you have the cash, and enjoy them while you can!
