  1. So... it's now totally random! Before my 2ed fill everything was ok, now everything and nothing gets me in trouble! it changes from day to day, minute to minute! usually it is the first bite, often chicken, always VERY well chewed, once I'm over the first choking lump in the throat, that maybe a sip of plain water will clear, after a few minutes it will all be ok and I can finish eating. it's almost like an allergic reaction as I don't think there is actually anything there. it's VERY weird! it never gets as far as the stomach before the reaction occures, got the sliming, pbing, had foaming only once, thank GOD! that was on one bite too!!! I have a question for all of you. What is the deal with popcorn??? I have absolutely no problem with popcorn and when nothing else is going down, that is fine. Yet the Drs. all have it on the "NO! NO! NO! or else!" list. Is it because of the calories and they just don't want us to eat it...Like Icecream, or do they think well eat an unpopped kernal and get stuck? sorry for all the questions, new to this forum Very glad to have found you! crunchy things are all good, eggs I put in the chopper and add a little lite mayo for a spread , great on soy crisp crackers.
  2. JO Martha's Vineyard, Mass banded 4-26-07 :huggie: definately relating to the PBing , etc. etc.! :omg: OMG anyone experienced the lump in the throat thing? it's like someone is choking me, very painful and a bit scary. it generally happens on the first bite and on well chewed and familiar foods that didn't do it before, it's very freaky. :nervous
  3. Are you sure you haven't skipped a week???:huggie: it's so much info to take in, your post op plan is really a bit ahead of most of us....the first week is generally always "full Liquid" which does NOT include cottage cheese, oatmeat or mashed anything. those are considered "mushies" that come on week 2...also 60 grams is the lowest protein recomended I've heard. I think if you want to keep from losing hair you might want to go for 60. anyway, good luck all . did they tell you that untill you start to get fills that you really don't have any restriction, it's like not having it at all! So if you are hungry now not to worry, that will change!
  4. Hi Liz, first, congrats on the surgery! Soon this will all be forgotten and it will pass faster than you think. the good news is that now you should be on full liquids (1 week out) and that opens up some alternates that seem more like real food. you can have tomato soup, and any other cream soups that you can dream up. if they have bits of stuff , like mushroom or clam, etc, you should put it in the chopper or blender and puree it. yogurt(no fruit on botton), diet pudding.....this is only for 1 week then you get "mushies" !!! you can go to the mushie thread for lots of ideas. you really can't have the fill too soon, the stomach needs to heal or you could have a real problem and do damage.( that could mean more weeks of liquids!) I don't understand the 1 oz in 15 min thing, that would take 2 hrs to get down 1 shake!! I was lucky if I could slow it down to 10 min. for the whole:rolleyes I think that is only if you are having trouble getting it down. I NEVER had any problem getting anything down untill my 2ed fill.....:cry, now I'm getting restriction issues. I think you can just drink the shakes as tollerated (sp?) you can also have "snacks" in between as per your dr. I would have the protein drinks as snacks and a pureed veggy soup as a meal. when I got REALLY hungry i'd just have a little more soup. Just use your head and you will get through Good luck, let us know how you do!
  5. Thanks Juli, real food still isn't doing so well for me either, but I'm definately diggin the wt. loss, finally stated down again:whoo:, so I guess I'm not complaining!! The september apt. is the Drs. schedule, not mine, suppose to see the nut. and get a fill if I need it. BUT, coming from the Vineyard and all the expense of the boat, etc., if I don't think I need a fill I'm certainly not going that far just to see the nut.! we'll see.....
  6. :ranger:[ Got my fill yesterday under flouro. I can feel the difference, I haven't tried anything more than mushies, and they do go down...along with drinking plenty, I'm feeling great! As of right now I'm only 100 pounds overweight!!!!! A new mile stone!!! Juli, that's great, you must be thrilled!!! was this your first? and what is "flouro"? I can't believe how different this time is :nervous I had my fill on monday and still am having to be VERrrrrry carefull! I am pretty much still on mushies and even that will make my throat clamp up tight. I have mixed emotions about it cuz I'm sure the wt. will start to drop now, but it's crazy how carefull I have to be or I'm in trouble. I got another apt. for september, but at this point can't imagine another fill. Anyway, hope everyone is haveing a great weekend.
  7. Wouldn't it be great if money wasn't a part of society?! when you figure out how to work it (the paypal thing) , let us know, I'm sure you will get what you need with a little help from your friends,.... you're to young , but there is a song in there somewhere:music: Well, I had my 2ed fill yesterday. It went well, without a hitch, but I got to tell you after was a first! I've never been one to follow rules, always though I was the exception! and actually up to now have not had even one bad side effect.but I mean to tell you when they say FULL liquids the 1st 24 hrs, they mean it!!! I only took one bite of very soft food and chewed VERY well. OMG:omg:, wrong thing to do. found out just what they mean by "foaming" lost the "bite" and then the foaming started. felt like a creature from the black lagoon! won't go there again!!!:faint: The good thing tough is that I always thought that the vomiting associated with this thing would be like when you are sick, but it really isn't as bad as that, just a little blurp with the burp! nothing that at this point out should threaten the band placement. but still...:rolleyes They said it would be a couple weeks till I felt a change in restriction, but I definately feel it now. And YES I would still do this again! creature and all!
  8. Pamala, Juli, great pictures, thanks, you both look GREAT... and like you are really doing up the town. Congrats to Pamala and Susanne!!!!!:whoo:love , love , love.....love, love, love......all we need is love:note2::note2::note2::note2::hug:
  9. Stevee, I am so sorry, to come this far and ......... :cry. Have you tried talking to the hospital/drs. ???? maybe they can set up a payment plan? They often give a break to people on limited income in need. is your band for other health reasons/complications? that could help. I don't know but will keep thinking! chin up, something will come. oh, recheck that adjustable rate , that sounds way off base, I've see others and they usually have a cap every 3 years and can not go up that much in that short a time. How many years in the whole thing for?that sounds wacked! sorry, but it sounds like a mistake!
  10. [ My partner and I are in our 12th year together, two kids from my previous marriage. She is supportive of my getting banded, but scared for safety, etc. It cracks me up that with so many couples we have big and small together! She is about 5'6" and maybe 125 lbs. It really sucks when size 8 pants are too big!!!! Well, just wanted to say hello, meet some fellow banditos (or future banditos like myself), and enjoy this GLBT group! Anyone from Colorado? Btw, MsDad, we have a table saw, power drill, router, skillsaw, and an air compressor!! But, damn, were cute! Funny though, I just love designing and building stuff, after I take off the dress and makeup! LOL too funny, I was just on here ordering up a new drill at Makita.com! love my tools, it's like christmas when we get a new one. In my former life I left nursing and went to work with my now X doing finish carpentry. But that was many years ago, my kids, now very grown, are in the building business and now won't let me touch anything in the house. But, I do:eyebrows:anyway! Now I'm back to the nursing full time. no "dress or makeup" here though! I guess I would be the fem one. I will do it on occasion. lol. My Wife of the last 14 years (legally, since Oct. 06):whoo: wouldn' t be caught dead in a dress!!! all 4'10 and 105 lbs of her! it really is a screeem..... and she's tough, I got a little 8 lb. dog and she's a scrapper too, something about being little....?! anyway, great to have you on here, Keep us posted on your journey, oh ya, Mass here :kiss.
  11. I think you most likely found a place here with us. I know I have:D . Everyone pretty much said it all, I will just add that most of the best places to get it done offer, actually require, you to go to a free mandatory information session. Most of these questions are answered there. I went to the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. they might be less expensive than NYC, but I really don't know as insurance covered it. they would be a lot closer than Mexico! I asked about the post showing after you get skinny and there is a lower profile one that they can switch out later if you find it a problem. I wanted it the 1st time but they have their reasons. It's a little harder to find and fill so they don't want it till after you lose. But I look at it as a LOT less offensive than all the humps, bumps and rolls I currently have, I mean really!!! lol. no, IT dosen't hurt now, they try to place it where it's out of the way most of the time. it hurt more than the band placement at time of surgery. BUT , it's very "do-able" and they give you great pain meds if you need them!! I was completely off them 3 days later. I haven't told any one other that my wife, naturally!, and just a select few at work that I had to in order to get the time off. It's not like the bypass, you will not lose so fast that you have to explain other than you are REALLY trying hard and eating less, all true! Anorexia.........I don't think so!!! If that were ever a problem I know I would't be here lol ! No regrets :whoo:(and no hair loss ) Eddie and Sean :canada: way to go boys , ain't it grand! set the date yet? Glen and I are very happy for you!
  12. :eyebrows:we could really give Ami the test and do a group tat, tribal Donald with a amy fairy walking the poodle??? Any Ideas Lucy? I need a bird in there somewhere. I have 2, a fantasy "free-bird" for my honey, and a humming bird, and lots of flowers, the garden grows from time to time. Glen is sleeved on both arms with oriental buddas, moths, tigers, and LOTS of other things , Water falls, fish, etc. and the legs have flowers/vines, etc. up both legs but not sleeved, thank the goddess! and a small one, the origional on the back tribute to her parrot! imagine if she had kids! Pam, I looked up what the "eye" was , way cool, any other symbols that would be good that we could combine?? I really , really want to go:car: to P town! we got married on the side of the court house in a little court yard. I'd post a picture if I knew how to up load it from my easy share to here. I can't take time off in the summer, our vacations are always in October after things quite down. Stevee, that is great news!
  13. I'm confused! I thought lots of service "men" got tattoos, you know, they go to shore, get drunk (?)or so some claim, get laid and get a tattoo! or was that just in the movies?! No, seriously, is that rule for everyone or just the women?:woot: I actually have a small fairy drawn that I want sometime. I just don't know where I want it. most of mine are on the left breast and extend to the shoulder. I wanted to see it! I think I can save most of it but the "girls" will probably hang to my knees:pout:gona have to hike um up!:Banane20:lol what is your job? I thought I needed to cover mine too but I branched out a bit and a little peeks out depending on the shirt. no one has objected and actually it has helped break the ice with some clients! I can cover it if I need to. I didn't find it all that painful. that depends on where you put it! wish I were going on vacation!!! I really need one.........have fun , I'll be thinking of you all.
  14. you guys are just kids! I graduated in 1971:hippie:! Pam and Juli and wives too ! When you go to ptown, you should check out the tattoo place on Commercial St. " Mooncusser Tattoo Studio" ( moomcussertattoo.com ) it's right next to a dance bar for us ladies, that I can't remember the name of. Next time we go back, for our anniversary, we want to get matching tattoos. That is if we can find anyplace to add it to Glen's already extensive artwork ! I have plenty of space left . have you found a place to stay yet?
  15. really busy! this time of night is my only time, My sweetie is trying to sleep and this is quiet. I'm a night owl anyway. It has been quiet here, maybe everyone actually has more of a life than me and thus no time. That would be a good thing! My life is all work, no play.....:violin:nice to have you here! Kity, that's great on the wt. loss:clap2: . my 2ed fill is not for 3 weeks, I am really making an effort on the better choice front, it ain't easy !!!
  16. So glad you had a great experience. Mine could have been better, but maybe because it wasn't everyone else's will be ! I was basically okay but had a much shorter stay than usual, they had no bed on the floor for me! Surgery at 7pm, discharged by 9am. not my choice!!! the Dr. was very upset at how I was treated. (at Lahey) But, my self determination kicked in and I was better for it! anyway, :welcomeB: to B-land!
  17. :help: So I give up! I need a smart person. I would love to post a picture but I can't figure it out. :embarassed: I got into the user pc above and it says to up load it from your computer, BUT, it doesn't say how! I have kodak easy share but how to get it from there to here is a mystery to me!! :) Anyone?? Eddie, I am truely impressed that you were able to get through Harry Potter that quick! I love Harry but I got to admit I have to wait for the movie, I can only read about 10 pages before I'm asleep on any book, but I can do any movie even the Titanic and be okay till the end. go figure. PS, craving is gone, (was good though!) No fault, I love coconut and has been a craving in the past with no mention from anyone. I don't dare mention my other one, not the usual, not sweet, found mostly on the cape! not good for the band! oh well, that was a past life :rip:.
  18. Everyone must be having a great weekend! it sure is quiet around here!! that's a good thing. Just checking in. no coconut......yet. I think maybe my fill is starting to work a little, hadn't noticed much difference till now but something is feeling strange today. A little uneasy on the stomach if I eat too much. I guess this is a good thing too! :mmph: :youcandothis:I just love these little guys! you can tell I'm :bored , maybe bed early???:kiss
  19. soon bostonchic! soon!!they seem like forever, but soon it will just be a distant memory! I'm sure all will go well. To do the ticker, just click on anyones and it will take you to the site where you will then be instructed to do your own. Once you have created it you go to the control panel at the top of this page and add it to your signiture. If you can't get it I can go back and try to remember how I did it !
  20. :whoo: GREAT!! Good luck , try not to be nervous, ya right! really, nothing to be nervous about. you'll do great. I'm sure it will all go well, that is where I went, who is your Dr?
  21. hay everyone, thanks, but I don't pretend to be an expert nutritionaist. It's just years of reading about all this stuff, and being in health care I'm expected to know it! Pamala, the "9" is the 1g of fat= 9 calories. protein and carbs have 4 cal. per 1gram. Eddie, no problem on the sodium. I think lo-carb is fine. but the 30 g on the fat isn't considered "lo-fat"diet. it is what the heart people tell us EVERYONE should be eating. I readup on the coconut oil, I hadn't actually heard much about it. what are you using it for??? get going how?? there must be better ways. it's a wopping 117 cal per tab!! the site I went to said they suggest 3.5 tab. a day ? that would only be 410 cal. Let me know how that goes. It actually sounded very tasty:cool:! :whoo: on the wt. loss for both of you!!!:clap2: Pam and Juli, you two will almost be in my back yard going to P town! and P.S., my name is Jo but cheri will work too! Dammm, 1 minute to Monday morning! have a great week, oops, it is monday morning..nite all:notagree
  22. Eddie, just a few facts to throw in the pot. looking into a few figures, you want to shoot for aprox 30 fat grams total! that and no exercise seems to be the main issues. I can't stress enough the importance of weight training mixed in the bag. My kid had been losing wt. (40 lbs.) this past spring (a 28 yr.old straping 6'1" very good looking , you'd love him kind of guy.....but very straight!) by wt. training on a bowflex and eating losts of chicken and broccoli, no band. I used to have a bowflex and did well when I used it. Of course I got tired of doing it , stopped ,( gave it to my other son ) and also stopped losing. I know, I know! Anyway, no more than 25% of your calories should come from fat. 82g x 9= 738 cal !!! 30g=270cal or 25% of 1080cal. you can do the rest of the math. your body can't use the fat except for small amt. for vit. absorbtion and it helps your skin some, so it stores it for the future! you also didn't mention how much salt/sodium you are getting??? need to keep that under 2400 mil. Now, I'm very happy for your hubby, but he has a big head start on you AND he had a lot more to lose...plus I recall that at one point you said he had stopped losing also and then got another fill, 3rd I think? So, stop this foolishness......Ok?! ya, time for bed :notagree.
  23. Ok, Eddie, so a couple things to consider. First of all , you made the right choice!!! No RNY bull, that would not be any better from what I've seen with others that I know who have had it. that said, you should probably be checking in with the nutritionist. they make me go there first before the fill. My past knowledge would tell me that you might be lowering your metabolism by not exercising for 3 weeks. combind that with the lower calories and the body is conserving them for the next depression. You also don't really have that much to lose which always makes it harder. Also , fat makes and stores fat. fat cals. are not equal with protein. extra protein is not stored in the body. Fat and carbs are! You need to lose the high fat and eat more protein. My nutritionist told me to lose the shakes. Not sure why, but I have and now am starting to lose again. I think they are more cals than we need. How are you doing with the salt?? High sodium will retain fluids in the cells and will replace the fat with fluids that will make it look like you haven't lost. Back to the exercise, you also said that you were not weight training at all, well, exercising with weights burns fat and preserves muscle so that nearly all the wt. you lose is fat and not muscle. it's the muscle that burns the fat, if you lose muscle, well, your got the picture, its harder . the wt. training also decreases your insulin levels so you are in better balance and thus.....lose easier!!! you don't have to kill yourself doing it, just do it! :kiss2: it's a bitch I know, and now that I've said all that and know it to be true, I got to bite the bullet and do it my self!!!:eyebrows: Hope this helps.....:cheer2:
  24. Way to go!:clap2: 48lbs !!! Nice to see you here. Steeve and Kat , Congrats on the approvals, won't be long now, seems that is the hardest part. Lucy, good luck on the fill, just had my first (late) What a difference !! I was :hungry: all the time, just like the same old battle all over again, I got a few years on most of you so it's been a LONG one for me. I actually did manage to lose a bit over time, my all time high being about 75 lbs more than now. Anyway, I got the same 10cc band, it holds 4cc total, but they start slow. not everyone will need the 4. seems to me that the fill is what it is all about. without it is like trying to run your car with out gas! gone through too much to get here to be struggling now!
