So today I had to go in to have the last testing done (EKG) prior to meeting my bariatrician in a few weeks. I got to the check in window and the receptionist began to check me in. Im assuming she sees alot of walk ins that are bariatric surgery candidates , also once I gave her my card she accessed my medical record. She looked around her computer and in a loud enough voice said" tell me you're not havin that surgery to lose weight" I was floored! As calmly as I could I responded with a yes. She then said ..mind you infront of the check in line " girl please you do not need that, you can just exercise and lose that little bit of fat". After stating yes I am opting for WLS , I walked away and waited to be called. I am 5'3 227 #..I do carry my weight well and ppl dont believe that I weigh that much when I tell them. I cant help but feel some type of way! No I haven't been overweight all my life, however this is to much weight for my petite frame. Ive experienced all the yo yo dieting and have given this whole thing alot of consideration .

So I had my Gallbladder out today. Everything went great but I got to say, being sent home right after is really hard. They gave me a big dose of pain meds before I made the trip home, but it was still painful.
While I was in pre-op I was by myself for a few hours before my friend was able to arrive. The girl across from me was waiting to have the sleeve and when she noticed I was alone she sent her mom to me. Seriously, sometimes people are awesome. She thought I was having the sleeve today because I had the same surgeon. I told her mom my story and warned her about the first week, but that it was so very worth it.
Anyways, she is sleeved now and I am without a gallbladder. That has been my day in a nutshell. :0)

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie, and am starting my process. Looking to get sleeved by the end of the year as a xmas/birthday present to myself. Turning 42 in January, and since I'm 30 I've been on EVERY diet in the book. Done with all of that, and making a decision to change my life forever! Can't wait to get to know you all.
BTW, I'm in South Orange County.

How can one measure happiness or measure ongoing happiness?

    Making good choices in life.

Major step taken 3 years ago yesterday by self paying for VSG surgery as an outpatient in US (after being denied by insurance) and had over 80% of my stomach removed. Sleeve gave me a great tool to battle my obesity. So at three years out, I can assure you I made a good or dare I state fabulous choice. Today weighed in at 6 pounds below surgeons goal still well in range of healthy BMI. Yes, I am healthy & take my suppliments & follow up with surgeon annually while still attending a bi-monthly support group here in SoCal
While I can babble on about the benefits of my choice, let me assure you

I have no regrets & LOVE MY SLEEVE

Thank you to each of my fellow vetrans who encourage, support and have imparted valuable information. You have made me a victor.

First - YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE, nor did your sleeve fail you. Seems you know what you did to gain back this weight and what triggers caused this.
Life will always have up and downs. Once you conquer this may I suggest some counseling to help you deal with any future triggers? No more yoyo dieting. Chose wisely and you will be back - amazing yourself.
I repeat - you are not a failure. Getting back on track will see that scale going back in the right direction. Hugs to you for being so courageous to post.

iegal reacted to coops in How was your 5:2 day today?
    Hello all!
Just checking in - saw 161 over the weekend, so up 1 lb but still in my low bounce. Not particularly worried about it as I've had a good weekend not worrying about food! Had a few treats Saturday and it is good to be able to do that without the guilt and knowing that Monday I will be fasting! However, Sunday (today) I have not looked for treats or sugar related loveliness, whereas in the past I would of done! This 5:2 is mind blowing how it somehow controls the urges that previously would have gone on for days!
For some reason, dunno why, today I feel 'lighter' and 'smaller' even though I'm not, really. Can't explain it - a weird feeling but it does feel good non the less - anyone else had this? Perhaps I am going mad!
Oh! Gotta tell ya! Had a funny moment whilst shopping yesterday. I was in a big clothes shop, looking for tops for work and as I was coming down the escalator I saw this woman staring at me... she was quite small... so, obviously I stared back! You probably know what is coming next! Well, it was ME! Durrrrr - I couldn't believe how 'narrow' I looked! I asked my hubby if he had noticed this and he said: 'Yes! Ages ago!' - Hmmm, thanks for telling me...lol!
And that was my weekend! Hope yours was as, well, comical!

My support group called me the "secret keeper" My own mother didn't know for months (she lives less than a mile away from me), my dad for almost 2 years and some family still doesn't know at three years out. NO one knew about my surgery minus my significant other and two trusted dear friends. Obvisouly by my no picture icon, I am still private except on this site minus my local support group which I still attend.
VSG surgery decision was deeply personal, this was my battle to save me from me. Already knowing what others would say like "you aren't fat" was not what I needed to hear. My resolve was firm. I had seen a private physcologist and knew what what require beyond the physical change ahead. Didn't need other input nor did I want it. My surgeon was supurb, my metomorphisis ahead was in my control.
In conclusion - we all travel this journey differently. Some view this is a private battle, like I did. Others want troops surrounding them. Both view are right. Don't be ashamed of which way you fight the battle of the bulge.
Hugs - I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

Imparting to others what we have gleaned through the process, as FYE says, the good the bad and the ugly, is so important to ALL of our continued success.
Congratulations to you! You should be extremely proud!!!
