Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
Chris HOW WAS TODAY!!!!!??????? I sure wish you would post more and I am sure gail wishes the same thing. So were you referring to your Mom being the "inhouse" RN or is your wife a RN too? Tell me how you are feeling please. I went to see the nutritionist and she told me (reassured me) that some people get a little restriction immed. after procedure but until they get a few fills under their belt, you might feel hungry. I kinda knew this by reading the boards. The nutritionist at Dr.K's office is VERY impressive with her knowledge and tricks in her bag. If anybody wants some of these great tricks tell me your fax number and I will fax them to you. So guess what!!!! I am getting banded tomarrow March1st at 430pm! Went into my postop appt w/ Dr.Kozar and we started talking about the procedure and when the optimum time was for a re do procedure and he said really in 7 days or 90 days and the worst time is 4 weeks. His next sentence was: what are you doing tomarrow? My liver looked like a skinny persons liver during the last procedure so I do not have to bariatrix shake it, so I am eating "my last meal"~tonight at dinner. I can have a light breakfast and then that is it! As soon as he said I was going back tomarrow I got sick to my stomach and clammy!

Gas X strips work incredibly. Were you nauseated coming out of anesthesia? How long after you were banded did you wake up? Being the first thing you ate since bariatrix, tell me how delicious is applesauce;probably the best applesauce you ever tasted right?

Hmmmmmm......You know..... Maybe I bounced back so quickly because I was not banded and restricted to what I could eat. Even though I did not have an appetite that has NEVER stopped me from eating. Intersting concept. Oh! I was also doing the shakes post op too! Because I did not know what the next step was or if I could or could not and was just keeping my options open. When the shakes are an option they are like REEAALLY good chocolate milk! LOL

I agree! My personal trainer keeps getting me to commit to being "on track" more than 85% of the time. Shrimp, Chicken breast, tofu. You should really limit beef and pork. Gail update your ticker I want to see your successes! if you don't remember how I can help. What time is your appointment on Wed? I did not get an appetite back until 2 days post surg. But I was thinking I wanted all these incredible no-no foods, but when it came time to cook or fix something I opted for jello and soup and cream of wheat.

No you do not have to add protein to bariatrix. I was referring to the private PM we did about starving and cheating... The ONLY reason I had my omentum taken out; as a precautionary thing due to cancer. They typically do not take the omentum with your hysto. Don't worry about the colon puncture thing, it only ever happens to me, and I have accepted this all my life. One in a million! That would be me!

Gail I am on here day and night; I swear! I feel great! I went back to work on Saturday, a teeny teeny teeny bit sore but not a big deal, just had to move a little slower getting out of my chair to help customers. I am looking forward to being banded and I visit the March bandster thread at least 3x a day. And I saw you on Remedydr. (the ones that we paid for thru western bariatrix~that is not 1/2 as good as this one) but maybe I just have not met my "niche" over there like our little reno group here. Have you added some protein to your shakes?

Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
Chris I am so excited for you! Don't forget to post with all the details, I am sure Gail will be anxiously waiting too since she is the next one in our little forum after you. I just thought..... You can't eat today, not even water, that is okay you are probably so intune to getting surg today that it won't even cross your mind. Then after surg. you will be HAPPY to get those ice chips! Just another note: When you start your post op diet everything tastes soooooo salty, even cream of wheat.

February 2007 bandsters!
Louise I looked up recovery time for hiatal hernia and the recommended recovery is 3 weeks depending on how big the bump was. I think hernia repair would be MUCH MUCH MUCH more recovery time because I am familiar with the procedure involved, maybe what you should do in NOT beat yourself up and look on line what your body is doing to repair itself. I would also call your dr. and ask his opinion on what his recommended next step for you is. (ie: another 2 weeks medical leave or maybe he will tell you to come in so he can do a follow up visit on your recovery)

Feeling Guilty About Losing Weight
Mypov: Who does the cooking in your house? Cook much much much less and more vegtables, transition slowly, start making his lunches, which is leftovers from the night before and BEG him to help you stay consistent in walking after dinner (pretend that you can't doit for yourself). Hopefully this will work. Don't wait for 2 years to "fix" him, he may not last that long, at the rate you will lose, he will die before you can fix him. Start today! Even if he just loses 5 pounds, it is a start in the right direction~even if he stays the same,it is better than gaining.

I think the hair lose is lack of protein. How much protein are you getting each day???? Try protein shakes to supplement your diet. OR look up on the net Fresh Energy in Reno, Nevada and tell them to ship you some protein bars, eat 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at snack during the day. You also might be noticing that your nails are not up to par. This is my guess.

Surgery Center vs. Hospital
Mine was done is a private surgery center. It was my choice, and I chose what would be a more individual almost one on one experience. My surgery center was across the street from our hosp, it is used for same day surguries and there are NO sick people there, so IMHO less of a chance of me getting sick from somebody else who is there to treat a stomach virus etc. My experience was almost dr. office style; and I needed this atmosphere to keep me calm. No loud speakers going over head calling dr. so and so to emergency room etc. I had to spend the night and my nurse to patient ratio was 1 to 1 and that is their standard; I was not getting special treatment.

Eating binge tonight
It is not salads that I heard cause people the trouble; because Itoo love salad and I too was very concerned. It was the bread! Thank god you did not get stuck! Because the bread in our pouch turns gummy and then it "supposedly" gets stuck. But I was thinking about this last night and if you saturate that bread with some (example gravy or sauce from spaghetti; it would have a lesser of chance to get stuck) Sounds like you are back on track. You keep me accountable and I will try and keep you accountable. My surgery did not go as planned, they ended up aborting the lapband; they accidently poked a hole in my colon and it has to repair itself prior to banding, and said they would do it in another 4 weeks, so I am scared 1/2 to death that the weight I have lost will be regained and the vicious cycle starts again. My goal is to drink all the bariatrix shakes for meals and Snacks and eat a salad with protien for dinner (I told you I love salads).

Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
I did not want to freak anybody out, but Dr.K. gave me his home phone # (just in case, but wanted me to check in with him today) so I did and I had a rash I was concerned about and yaddda yadda. He said I was doing great, not to be concerned, he will see me on Wed. and we can resched lapband in 4 weeks. Don't eat too many calories he said as he hung up the phone! What a great guy! I went to work today;I could have gone to work yesterday but was kinda paranoid about the colon thing, today I am much more relaxed especially since I am not showing any signs of bad stuff going on. Chris you will fly through this!Tell them to order pizza for dinner...

February 2007 bandsters!
Synical Chick: I had had a hysterectomy 16 years ago and apparently ALOT of scarring (adhesions) so when Dr.K. went and put in the laprascopy he punctured my colon which was adhered to my stomach. Not his fault, not my fault but I must go back to get banded after my colon heals. But the good thing is I won't be afraid next time I go in because the surgery is a cake walk. I went shopping went I left the hosp. and I could be taking regular tylenol for the discomfort (no pain~just sore) but they need to see an accurate temperature on my body watching for an infection from the colon thing.

February 2007 bandsters!
Tracy; I was released from the hosp 23 1/2 hrs after surgery, the only reason I had to stay overnight was the sleep apnea. My Dr.said he was more concerned about my sleep apnea than the surgery;of course that was said prior to the colon being punctured.

Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???
So I got released this AM, I woke up at 430am and was tired of being there. I really did not need any pain meds at all but I have taken 1/2 the suggested dosage 1/2 the time. I am not a pill popper. The liquid stuff Loritab does not make you drowsy just takes the edge off. I was more sore this AM than yesterday. When I finally got released we went to (my favorite) walmart, the video store and Longs. You would never know I just got out of the hosp, unless you knew me very well, I am wearing really baggy sweats (huge suggestion). The worst part of pain is when we hit pot holes in the road driving around, even the little pot holes and cracks in the asphalt, I just moan a little bit everytime we hit one, not that bad though. To tell you how cool my overnight was last night; Two nurses to two patients, seriously (i am not lieing) we ordered pizza. Of course I did not eat, but the 2 nurses did and the backsurgery patient in the next room did, we all watched american idol and grey's anatomy, it was like a pizza sleep over more than a hospital, it was cozy. FANTASTIC staff!! Dr.K.is concerned about me and made the nurse give me his cell phone, I am to call him tomarrow regardless of how things go, it is all about fever and the colon thing, I am okay as of right now. I am going to try and post a pic of my incisions not to be cutsey but more just so you know what you will look like. I think my incisions are probably bigger than normal because he was doing alot more than "normal". I am curious if he will use the same incisions to do lapband surg. And I think I am more sore than what is expected because he was in there more and doing more stuff. I think I already posted I was changing my mind as I was wheeled into surgery.
