  1. I bought a pill crusher and I crush them and add a little flavored Water (like crystal light) to it. The worst are these Red Yeast Rice capsules I have to take. They are gross. This I found as a bummer about the lap band. But maybe after I lose weight, I can get off of some of my meds. Good Luck to You!!
  2. What is a realistic weight loss on the lap band? I was banded on March 31st and have lost a total of 30 lbs since starting my 2 week pre op diet. Am I being realistic to believe that I can be down to my goal of 175lbs by Christmas? Like everyone, I wanted to wake up from my surgery skinny. Although I am losing weight at a good pace right now, I am wondering if it will slow down, especially since I am adding different food each week. Any thoughts or encouragement welcome!!
  3. If your like me, you will be on thin liquids and protein shakes in a couple of days. That means strained cream soups and protein shakes. It was hard, but you can do it. I was so looking forward to the cream soup on about day 5. Stay strong. I had my lap band done on March 31. Hang in There!!
  4. I'm 51 from Southern CA. I'm getting banded March 31. A little scared alot excited!! I am on the pre op diet right now and have dropped 10 lbs.( probably mostly water weight). It was pretty brutal the first few days, but I'm getting used to the reduced (way reduced) calories. Good Luck to you!!
  5. Wow, 26lbs already. Good for you. How was the pre-op diet. Mine is real strict. A Protein shake for Breakfast and dinner and 3oz of chicken or fish and 1 c. mixed veggies for lunch. Just Water and tea to drink. Oh and 2 cups of black coffee with sweetner. I should drop some weight with that. Were you scared the week before your surgery?
  6. Thank you all for your encouraging words. I think that change is always scary and also that thought of another failed attempt at trying to lose the weight. I am looking forward to enjoying life and not always basing everything on what I will or can eat. I hope the band is the answer to my prayers and will help keep me on track so I can live a healthy happier life. And that I can shop at any store and find something that fits. I am so tired of all the plus size clothing. They think that fat people like to wear ugly clothes. I don't know about you, but I get real depressed when I shop for clothes. So here's to a good decision to get through my pre-op diet and get this surgery behind me and hello to my life. I have already said, I've lived the first 50 years of my life FAT, I want to live the last 50 thin. Thanks for all your support. I am ready for the next step!!
  7. Yes, I am feeling the same. My date is March 31. I am getting ready to start my pre op diet on March 16. I am freaking out.
  8. Anyone have any regrets that they did the Lapband. The closer the date the more I am freaking out. Getting ready to start my 2 week pre op diet and am having my last few sodas before I start. Having no more diet sodas for the rest of my life will be hard, but I am sure I can do it. Does everyone go through this before their surgery. I am so tired of being overweight and definitely want to change...but does it have to be so drastic...so permanent. I am so mad at myself for getting into this predicament, but if I don't do something I am afraid that I will be at the point of no return. Any thoughts or suggestions??
  9. My pre-op is 2 Protein shakes and 1 meal at lunch consisting of chicken or fish and 1 cup of steamed veggies and Water. If I can get through this, I will be okay. I have been trying to cut back to sort of prepare me. How much do you want to lose? I am hoping to lose at least 75 lbs. Ideally, I need to lose 100lbs. Gosh, with this pre-op diet, I should drop 10 or 15 lbs. We will see how it goes. Keep in touch and give me all the details of how it's going. My husband is not real supportive in much of anything I do, he just wants me to be thin again....whatever it takes.I have had to have 2 foot surgeries in the past year and after each one, I have put on 15+ lbs. and it just won't go away. Well keep strong and know that WE can do this!!! Talk to you soon.
  10. I am scheduled for March 31....Yikes. Have you started your pre op diet yet. I start mine on March 17th. I am excited and scared all in one..how about you??
  11. I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Madan at the Beverly Hills Surgical Center on March 31,2011. Insurance has approved the surgery and they say no out of pocket cost. I am freaking out. He has some bad press. Nothing has really come out about the exact reasons for the deaths. So I am scanning the Lap Band doctors in Orange County. He does his surgeries in a COE hospital. I can only find older posts. Are there any current patients banded or not that could give me some info.
  12. I am in the same boat as you, except I have apprroval and a surgery date scheduled for march 31. I have dr. Madan and the surgery to be done at the Beverly Hills Surgical Cente. I have such mixed feelings about Dr. Madan and the surgery center. That is the same center that I know for sures that 2 people died and I think Dr. Madan was the surgeon for one of them. I want this lapband so bad! I am really cofused. I have emailed Dr. Madan and the surgery coordnator (Sylvia) about my concerns but have not heard back. I guess I will check a few other Doctors and see what they say. Let me know if you hear anything good or bad and I will do the same. Thanks and good luck
  13. I am scheduled for my LapBand on March 31 with Dr. Madan. I like Dr. Madan, I am just a little nervous of the Beverly Hills Surgical Center. Did anyone have there Lapband done there?? Any thoughts or concerns, Any input would be helpful. Thanks
  14. I am excited for you. I will be banded on March 31. Fortunately, my insurance process took only 8 weeks. I had to have foot surgery on Feb. 11, so I had to postpone my lapband till the end of March. Glad to hear you feel so good after surgery, I start my 2 week pre-op diet on March 17. By then, you will probably be on solid foods. Keep in touch so I know what to look forward to. Best Wishes to a new YOY!!
  15. Hi, Yes, the approval is exciting and a little scary. I had talked to someone that told me that they had been dealing with the insurance and approval for like a year. So Tuesday is the start of your pre-op diet. What type of pre-op diet did your doctor put you on? It seems as though there are different variations of the same diet. My doctor put me on a 2 week pre op diet. I start mine on March 17th. I am a little nervous because I don't want to blow it. I am the same as you with 2 kids. Mine are 13 but I seem to have to grab a bite or taste of whatever they are eating. I have been trying to cut back so the pre op isn't too hard. I have a protein shake for Breakfast and Dinner and 3oz. of chicken or fish and 2 cups of veggies for Lunch. Not much food. I'll probablly lose 10 lbs on that. I need to lose 100 lbs. to get to my ideal weight. I swear this last 20 lbs just hopped on and I didn't even see it happen. Keep me informed on your pre-op program and I will be praying for our success. We can do this!!
