  1. Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone else had a band that slipped and was repaired. I feel so depressed that I am back on liquids...AGAIN. I thought I was past that stage and would never have to be on liquids and mushies for four weeeks again. I am so hungry for real food. The interesting thing is that despite this setback, I love my band and when the doctor said that they may have to remove it and replace it at a later date, I became so possesive off my band and refused to let him take it out. Anyone else have this experience? and if o how did they deal with it? Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated. :help:
  2. I heard that there may be a problem with the 4cc band and that my doctors no longer use that size band (4cc) because of problems with the actual band. This may be only a rumor, but I wanted to know if anyone else has heard this as well. I am asking because I think my band slipped again - for a 2nd time and am going to the doctor today to find out. If it did slip again and there is a problem with the 4cc band, I wold want it replaced with the larger one. Please help.

    Symptoms of Band Slipping

just wondering... For those of you who have had a slip, could you please tell me what size band you had when it slipped, and if you know the brand of band you had. I am trying to figure out if a smaller band has more of a chance of slipping or not. I thought I heard something like this but cant remember. Thanks!!

    Symptoms of Band Slipping

I asked my doc about the stiching of the band when my band slipped. he said that they stitch only one side of the band. I am not sure if this is the case with all docs. When my band slipped, It began with mild pain when food was going down. So I switched to mushy food. That helped for a few days, but then the pain came back. So I went to liquids, thinking it was just irritation. After 4 days on liquids the pain became worse, so I went to the doctor and was told my band had slipped and went for surgery to fix it. I just have to say that the recovery from the revision was NOTHING. No pain even when waking up in the recovery room. I was back at work the day after I left the hospital. Nothing like when I was banded. So as scary as a slip seems, it wasnt so terrible just totally annoying. I hope this is comforting to those of you who feared slippage as much as I did before my band slipped. good luck all.
  5. it's interesing that you say you have a sensitive stomach. I hve been saying from the start that I feel my band EVERY time I eat or drink. Not in a painful way, just the food/drink going down my system and stoping at the band. Then I feel a little bubble release and the food drops down. Its painless, but I definitely feel it. Do you have the same thing?

    Constantly feel band

I am a year out with the band and have always felt my band. the funny thing is that I slipped about four months ago - and temporarily lost the ability to feel the band (that is feeling that the food goes down, stops at the band, then slowly trickles through) after the revision. I didnt like not feeling the band because I felt scared that I would have a blockage and wouldnt know it. the food slowly trickling through had been calming for me that I knew the food was going down. After my first fill after the revision I was again able to feel it - and was relieved - even though it is sometimes uncomfortable. I find that if I am VERY careful about chewing - I just have the slight pressure and not the pain with it. So try to chew and take very small bites and good luck.

Curious About Band Size & Slipped Band

I have the 4cc band and it slipped within the first 8 months. Dont really know for sure, but heard a rumor (will only call it a rumor till I know for sure - till then it must remain a rumor) that they dont use a specific type of band anymore (dont know the make and model) because it tends to slip with the first 6-8 months if it is going to slip at all. Again - this is heresay that I heard someone in my docs office talking about. If anyone else has heard anything similair I would love to know if its true - becaue I still have that band in me - and am scared of it happening again. Hearing that most of your bands were the same size makes me even more afraid.

    Did I slip?

I had a slipped band and threw up only once - I just had terrible pain with pressure as food and liquid went down. It got so bad I didnt want to eat or drink.

    Symptoms of slippage vs. erosion

I am so sorry to hear about your difficulties. I myself has a slipped band and had to have it fixed. But I did alot of checking about the band vs the bypass before settling on the band, and was shocked to hear that the bypass can also be somewhat temporary. They claim that the band is only going to help for two years, after that you can gain back the weight if you dont learn how to eat right during those two years. Also they said that the first year is wieght loss the second, it is unlikely that you will gain back, but after that its up to you and the bypass wont help anymore. I dont know if this holds true with everyone, but this is what my doc told me. I also know two people personally that gained back wieght - one is four years out and gained approx. 45 pounds back and another who is almost 6 years and gained back around 60 pounds. Anyway good luck in whatever you decide - just thought I would share the info my doc told me - check it out yourself to make 100% sure. Good luck and stay well.
  11. your probably okay - sounds like your sore from the stomach bug, but if your nervous and to be cautious you should call your doc. I had something similar. I had salmanella poisoning and was really sick. and since that time, my stomach never felt the same. But it was a pain I ONLY had whne I ate or drank something. It was like a pain with pressure as the food or liquid went down. I wasnt throwing up, I just had that pressure with pain as things went down. But after a while I felt that it wasnt even worth it to eat and drink - thats when I saw my doctor. I am sure yours is fine as slips are not too common. Hope this was hepful and good luck to you. I am sure that alot of people have had stomach viruses and their bands didnt slip. But again - if your nevous call the doctor - better to be safe than sorry. Good luck p jope you feel better.
  12. btl - Im not sure what the lump is, I didnt have anything like that when I slipped. Think you should ask your doc, because its right near the port. Marie - Im shocked that your doc doesnt want to fix it - must be that it was only a mild slip and that maybe its not significant enough to have another surgery. Mine was a significant enough slip - because my doc wouldnt even let me go home on saturday night till sugery on monday. hope this ws helpful and good luck you guys!
  13. How did you know that you slipped - what signs were there? Are you feeling better? Hope you are doing better.
  14. hi guys, thanks for responding. I am now back on mushies and am feeling alot better and more hopeful. That liquid stage is simply too rough and to have to go through it a second time really bummed me out. The way I knew that I slipped was that I had pain when I ate or drank. Its funn thoug, I didnt throw up (I onlt threw up three times since I got my band 9 months ago) so I was shocked when they said that I slipped. Anyone else have the same experience. And you are right that it makes ou more possesive about the band because they said they may have to remove my band and I told them "No way - you cant have my band". It really did give me an appreciation of the band. Hope you all are doing well, and I hope that I am over the hump. :hungry:

    Did I slip?

from what I understand from my surgeon, he just went in and moved the band back into place and stitched it back into place. He then checked the band to make sure that it works and that it didnt leak. Its alot easier recovery though (at least thats the way it was for me). Hope this is helpful.

What were the first signs of slips ..

I just had surgery on monday to repair my slipped band. my symptoms were not typical and I was shocked that it was really a slipped band. From what I ve heard, most people wake up at night mid-throwing up or had terrible reflux when they had a sliped band. I simply had pain and discomfort when I ate solids (at first) and then the pain began happening only with liquids (when I decided to go on liquids only in case I was just blocked or swollen). When I couldnt even drink, I went to the doctor to get unfilled hoping that it would unblock me. But it didnt help. When they did the esophogram, they saw that the band had moved significantly and saw a small stomach pouch which had to be fixed right away. Hope this helped and good luck. IF you do have to have it repaired, I healed alot faster this time han when I initially got the band put in. Good luck!

    Did I slip?

I just had surgery for a revision of the band after my band slipped. I did not have reflux or throwing up. I simply felt stuck, food hurt to go down, I always felt full, and most of all I had pain and discomfort after I swallowed food AND liquids. I went to the doctor to ask him to unfill me, and the pain still persisted, so i did an esophogram which then showed I had slipped. I had surgery monday to repair it. best of luck to you and keep us updated.

I have to sleep sitting up

I just had band revision on monday, as my band had slipped. interestingly though I didnt have reflux. I simple had significant discomfort when I ate food and it progressed to pain even when i drank liquids. I was shocked that I really slipped because I had no reflux at all. So I guess you can have a band slip without reflux. :phanvan

    December Bandsters

Hi everybody! I wanted to thank you all for the good advice. I think that as of this morning I am finally unstuck!!! Stupid peice of onion ring - so much trouble for such a small mistake!!! First I tried the warm drink (sipping) and that helped a little. I wanted to try the olive oil but didnt have any in the house (BTW do you think it would work with any kind of oil??). Finally, a freind who was banded in august just happend to call and I asked her and her advice combined with your advice about the waram water helped...finallly...what relief!!! she suggested that i should take a sip, hold it in my mouth while I raise both hand overhead and look up while swallowing. It worked - I actually couldnt beleive it!!! I want to get the aloe vera juice and olive oil in case I need it in the future. Didnt get to use the wine - that seemed like a great idea as well. thank you all so much for your guidance and support!!! sorry about the repeat info in th eother threads but I was so desperate for answers and some different people post in different threads so I figured the more advice the better. Deseprate times call for desperate measures...huh?

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi susan and Audree- welcome back - sent you many well wishes while you were away (check back at previous posts. So glad your both doing so well. I am only 10 days post-op and also still on liquids (though I am "cheating" a bit on some mushies (I know I shouldnt). One tip that helped me during the first week was snapple makes diet ices - made from frozen snapple - very good!!! and it was a change of flavor. they have diet pink lemonade, diet orangeade, and one other, i forget. If they arent availavble in your area - you can buy diet snapple and freeze them in ice cube trays with popsicle sticks. Hope this was helpful - and hope you continue to do so well. Also, nobody warned me about this and you may not get this - but just in case I want you to be more prepared then I was. About 5-7 days after surgery - you may feel a little down in the dumps and think "g-d what did i do to myself?" but its normal and it will very soon pass. If I had known that it would have been easier, because I was an emotional wreck for a short time. Thankfully it passed and I am now feeling better. Hope it doesnt happen to you, but at least youll be prepared and you wont feel like a freak like I did. Saty well!!

    Excessive PB-ing on purpose

hi guys - new to this thread. Yesterday like an idiot, i was sitting with my children and somehow (temporary insanity I guess) forgot that i am on mushies only - only 10 days post op. since then it is stuck and boy is it uncomfortable. I not only feel pressure (no real pain - just discomfort) but nausea as well. However, I am afraid to throw up and hurt the band. Is PB'ing the answer for this? If so - I dont know exactly what it is or how you would do it. Otherwise how else can I remove this stupid little peice causing so musch discomfort. I tried sipping Hot drinks - didnt work. Any advice would be great!!! thanks all. :help: :welldone:

    Steady losers ;-)

hi guys - I am really sorry that I upset some of you - I really really didnt mean to. I hope you dont mind but I really need some answers (you gals are all afew days to weeks ahead of me in days since surgery so I am hoping you can help (and forgive) - I think I am in trouble. Firstly, I am a real idiot. we were sitting with company and talking and my kids had onion rings on the table and without thinking I took one chewed it and swallowed. Only after I started feeling discomfort did I remember (temporary insanity - I cant believe that I forgot - I am supposed to be on mushies!!!!). Anyway a whole night last night I have a pressure on the right side of my chest - and I felt like throwing up. I was so sick all night I didnt know what to do. I remembered reading from one of you gals that grapefruit juice is like liquid drano - I tried it and it doesnt help. I havent actually thrown up - but still feel the pressure. Dont know what to do. I have been trying to do this burping (PB) that everyone is talking about - but I cant. Also being only 10 days post op I dont know if throing up or PB'ing is a good idea. Will it pass?? I am too embarrased to call my doc - he will think I am totally insane!!!!! I think I am insane - I cant beleive I did this - I truly forgot momentarily - but had already swalloed half an onion ring. Any advice will be very appreciated. Please help! and thanks for accepting my apology!!!
