  1. There is a wealth of info about what to take to the hospital but not sure where to find anything about what I'll need at home. Is there anything special like shakes, smoothies,,foods that I will need to stock up on now? I don't know anything about this part of the process so anything anyone wants to share would be helpful.
  2. I'd like to know, thanks. I'm just thinking if you are wearing a seatbelt and were hit, what kind of impact that would have on a sleeved stomach. Kinda like if you have breast implants, the fear of being hit...I had a friend like that anyway.
  3. I have to admit, in the beginning I wasn't telling anyone and then I decided on a selective few. Now I'm just going to tell whoever asks and deal with the comments thrown my way. I think one of the biggest reasons I didn't want to tell and may be the case with others is the fact that I've let myself come to this. That I can't just diet, that I can't just excercise..they will actually be removing a very large part of my stomach,,literally cutting away what has been the biggest problem in my life,,the more I think about it, the more I accept what I've done to myself and will take this surgery on and let it be a haven for me instead of a burden. Anyone that wants to stomp on my parade can bite me.
  4. Maybe a bazaar question but...Has anyone ever asked if their sleeve would be effected if they were in a car accident or anything similar to it? I was wondering what would happen if there were trauma to a sleeved stomach. God forbid that happen to me. My parents were killed in an accident so it's something I think about.
  5. After a long year of ups and downs..I've been approved. Now I get to wring my hands while waiting on a date..LOL Seriously, I'm thrilled to have the insurance thumbs up..that's a big obstacle!!
  6. Do you have any comorbitities? Your doctor can do a peer to peer session with the insurance company,,in other words..go to bat for you. Don't give up yet Cover every option till you run out. As a last resort, I would discuss lapband and bypass (if your insurance allows) with your surgeon to see what a back up option might be. I haven't read your whole blog yet but if you don't mind me asking,,what is your bmi?
  7. If you don't lose weight, you are probably building muscle and that will reshape your body to fit into smaller clothing. That's so awesome..congrats to you!
  8. That's your best bet to talk to your surgeon. Fix you a hot toddy and stay inside. Sending you get well wishes
  9. Sorry, you did say "a few weeks ago"..
  10. Not to say that it's not true but the internet would normally eat up stuff like that,,I can't find anything at all either. When did this supposedly happen?
  11. Can you take anything like tylenol cold and flu? Stress might make you more sick so try not to let it get to you.
  12. Congratulations, I'm excited for you! Good luck
  13. Congratulations,,,I'm so happy for you!
  14. I won't be a self pay..that's for sure. If I can't get the insurance company to give my approval it will cover most everything since I've met all my deductibles and out of pocket. As for my medical records, I signed a release, gave it to my insurance coordinator and she sent the request to the hospital where I stayed in July. I need those records that show the tests I already have so they don't waste time trying to do them again,,plus my insurance would likely not pay for them again so soon after. The med records dept at UK Medical Center in Ky is making it complicated. They say that the dr's office needs to send a letter head from the dr's office stating my name and info along with all the tests they need..they keep doing that but they haven't sent it as of Friday (after a week of trying). I'll find out more today,,hopefully they sent it after a 3rd request. I sort of have a back up plan but who knows. I see everyone on here zooming through the process and it just seems like it's going so slow since it will be a year since I started the process as of next month..and I wasn't even required to do a 6 month diet.
  15. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/13516-ticker-tutorial-for-vst-lbt-with-pictures/ Hope this helps!
  16. I can't self pay so I won't be going to Mexico. I would have the same concerns if I was thinking about it though..thanks longer-life..lol If she doesn't call or respond to my last call and email..I will call or email her..you are so funny
  17. likasulema, I know how medicare is,,when I first started the process, I was hoping they covered the sleeve since it's my secondary insurance. I'm hoping everything goes well this year because I've already met my primary insurance deductible and out of pocket amounts. I hope all goes well for you, that must be nerve wracking having to wait to find out for sure. Geno, congratulations! That's awesome!!! I bet you are so happy :smilingface (52):
  18. I forgot,,yes, Lissa..I've met my ded and out of pocket for the year and my husband will have the same insurance but the policy will be changing..I'm not sure if they would even cover wls next year. That's the reason I'm very anxious to get the ball rolling faster.
  19. Thanks, everyone. I wish I could even think about self pay but I have 2 kids in college..there's just no way. It's all or nothing where the insurance company is concerned. I wish all of you self payers luck though,,I feel for you having to come up with so much money. Lissa,,I know how you feel..I've had blood work, psych eval, therapy, I have to have an EGD, cardiac clearance,,already had pfts when I was hospitalized in July so that's 1 down. I'm sure there's more,,I just haven't been told yet.lol I had an appt with my neuro and got one silver lining..I was able to get the clinician's notes from when I was in the hospital proving I had the pfts..I had an echo done but not sure that will be enough for the cardiac clearance but ya never know. I think my ins coor sent off my paperwork to the ins co waiting on approval...I think..she didn't reply to my last email but she said my EGD would be scheduled after they hear from the ins co if I was approved or not...it sounded promising..again,,I think??
  20. I posted this in the pre op forum and then realized I should have posted it here. I haven't been approved or denied yet but was wondering how many of you were denied before being approved by your insurance?

  22. Thank you, redmtn. Your words of encouragement really help.
  23. All your responses are appreciated! Some are really "need to know" answers.
  24. It doesn't sound good when you tell your ins coor that you are concerned about getting scheduled for surgery because the year is almost up (already waited 1 year) and your insurance is going to change..and she says she is getting concerned too. I have several areas to get clearance in due to some of my health problems. It's like pulling teeth. I was hospitalized in July and they did all kinds of tests on me,,including the ones that are required for me to have surgery. They told me they could get my medical records and that would keep me from having to have all the tests again..and more than likely my insurance wouldn't cover them a 2nd time since it was just a few months ago. So I downloaded the release forms online,,filled out my part and took them to the bariatric center so they could request them,,since that's the "quicker" way to go. It normally takes a patient up 30 days to get their own med records where a doctors office can get them within 24 hours. Well,,today my coordinator tells me that she still hasn't rec'd them..it's been a week. So I'm doing all this leg work to try and get something,,no luck yet. I'm almost ready to give up..I feel like crying and it's just stressing me out so bad. Does anyone have any clue what I can do? Has this ever happened to any of you? Just reaching out,,so frustrated and sad.
