Day 3 after surgery.
Day 3 after surgery. Was hopping for no complications and easy recovery.. But S%$# happens. Due to my old surgeries, banding took over 2h and got 8 halls in my tummy. I am so-so glad I did my research and found the RIGHT doctor - Dr Fielding. I am sure if it was any other doc I would of had an open surgery. So now I am home and recovering. I can drink, and I am forcing the required Protein drinks in me. Forcing is the key word. I am obviously not hungry - only 3 days post opp. But I am also afraid I will fail in weight loss or even worth will require revision or band removal if I eat. So my question is: Is it normal to be scared of food even liquids after the surgery?

OMG Protein Shakes
I got three different brands before my pre-op diet. All chocolate - WalMart, BodyMilk, Premier from Costco) and I am OK with all of them. I guess I am of the lucky few ... or just don’t have good taste :-) They all a bit too sweet for me. I plan to spend some time after the surgery (tomorrow YEY) to find an all natural whey Isolate. If anyone has any suggestion – please let me know here or pm.

Calling all March Bansters
I am being banded March 2nd. And I am surprisingly calm today. A week ago I was realy scared, and a week before that anxious and nervous. Two weeks on liquids really calmed me down I guess :-)

girdle / corset / shapeware after the band
Anyone knows if it is OK to wear girdle / corset / shapeware or something like that after the banding while losing weight? Wondering if it is squeezing pouch/port and should not be used after surgery... And if it helps skin to shrink. Any input?

Where is your port??
Russian_BANDit_inNY replied to lisa-conners@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AMight be because it is healthier to sleep on the right side? I know I know it is silly reason to place port slightly to the left... and there might be a good medical reason to do i it ... maybe something to do with the internal organs 'layout'?

Tipped Port
Ports for chemo therapy also placed few inches below the collar bone. They still flip, and the bump is very visible even before weight loss.

waiting, waiting, waiting
I would strongly suggest to follow up with the doctor office if you feel like things are not moving. I asked and worked with office manager after I was not able to reach the 'right' person. Office manager Melisa was very very helpful. And my insurance pre-approval case manager Elaine from Anthem BCBS - was always reachable, I had her direct phone number.

What to do with friends and family?
Hi guys... I am glad to report back that after some crying and hugging and debating.... my closest people are on board and support me 100%. You are right, it is MY life, I know ME the best, and I would of had the surgery with their blessing or without. But I am glad I have support beyond this forum.

Anyone Cheat during Preop?
I will be on the 2 weeks pre-op diet to minimize fat infiltration of the liver (shrink the liver). Unfortunately I had an MRI few weeks ago. I say unfortunately because my MRI showed "normal size liver with minimal fatty infiltration". HERE GOES FAT PERSON REASONING - Now I have a reasonable excuse to cheat on my pre-op diet. I can not believe I am admitting to this.

What to do with friends and family?
Got my surgery day yesterday. All of a sudden my friends and family turned on me. Were they hopping I will not get approved? or pass psyche evaluation? lol They compare quitting smoking to stopping overeating... I quit cold turkey when had "live vs smoke" diagnosis. They INSIST I can change my eating habit... They insist I don't need to risk my life to go under a knife and loos weight myself... DON'T THEY KNOW ME??? HELLO?!?!?! I am shocked, confused, mad, sad... Still.... they know me best..... start to question myself? and my decision? Anyone had the same or similar reaction from the closest people?

waiting, waiting, waiting
Took my insurance 30 min or less to approve me with no 6month diet or 5 year history or any of that.... Took my doctor's office 3 ...three ... THREE weeks to fax papers from my file to them. ALL papers were in my file on the 20th.

NYU Surgical Coordinator Office - unprofessional
UPDATE A warning for those who consider going to NYU for the surgery My coordinator at the NYU Surgical Coordinator Office - unprofessional voice mail always full, never return messages, did not tell the truth regarding when they she submitted or even IF they she submitted paperwork to insurance. Had to get Office Manager involved in order for my file to be sent to the insurance. However the key papers (already in the file) were not submitted by my coordinator. Spoke with Office manager again, hopefully my coordinator will send complete file to the insurance on Monday. On the lighter note - my Insurance rep is wonderful!!! Have to wonder if all the 'insurance delays' I read about, are really do to the doctor's offices.
