If the milk isn't nutritious enough, then your baby will just eat more of other food. Keep up your Vitamins. Lots of Dr. don't know much about BFing.

NtvTXn sure has to get the nasty little word in on every thing disagreeable. Wow. It never ends....
As far as Mexico care goes, I've had other kinds of Medical work done in Mexico and loved all the Doctors and Staff and had full confidence in them-I'll go back in a hearbeat. Funny thing, my SIL is from Columbia (the country), she says that she'd never go to Mexico to get work done, she doesn't think those Dr's are good, trained well, etc...same argument we use here, but she was shocked when I told her that was what many people would say about Columbia! And in Spain I heard that the best dentists were in France. It never ends!

I am 7 months out and yes there are some negatives like today pulling out clothing that use to be a tad tight but wearable trying them on thinking they'd fit great now only to have the shirt and shorts fall down, a one should blouse that hung so low I was in danger of having a Janet Jackson moment and a sweather the DH use to think looked cute looks like a sack....oh yes terrible negatives! Nope! No regrets here.

Seven days post op. My incision is not infected. I am not sick or throwing up. I have no fever and no pain.
I am obsessed about getting Water, Protein, taking small sips, not putting anything into my mouth the doc said not to, taking my nexium, getting lots of rest...etc -- because I literally can not afford a complication.
However. Just to let ya know. So far, if you're thinking about going rogue over the border ( with a GOOD surgeon) and no insurance -- seven days out and I'm still not dead.

@Little Miss Diva: Band in a hat box in her closet! LOL! I kept the pins that fixed my shattered finger tip (till the box fell down and they got vacumed up!). Sleeve for me on Monday, the sight of that big ole foreign object in my body made me go to Sleeve. I thought about Band, for someone (You) who's Band is failing, I'd go for Sleeve.
    Good luck

Thanks everyone, thanks E, for the websites, one of them mentioned in the thread is actually the place i went to!
I got it cut again yesterday, its a beautiful cut, no doubt, but i had to go a bit shorter to get rid of the awful mess that had been made. It will grow and grow in nicely because of the cut.
Now to get sleeved, maybe I i will be able to go even shorter when i have a thin face!
Thanks again for the sympathy, just needed some kind words to cheer me up!

Oh man, you should've never paid! If you are really upset about it, I say, go back there and say you are very unhappy. I think they should at least offer you extensions or a dye job or something, if your haircut's totally not what you wanted and makes you look bad. If they disagree, raising your voice so ALL THE CUSTOMERS IN THE WAITING AREA HEAR is always a good idea. Worst case scenario, you get nothing out of it, but get it off your chest.

I think that this Protein powder stuff is way over-rated. I remember someone on here saying that their nutritionist wanted them to EAT not DRINK their calories and Protein. Makes sense to me.
There's never been an adequate definition of "working the sleeve" but part of my definition is filling it with actual food so that I feel full. So, after 45 days or so out, I dropped Protein Powder completely. And I've come to learn that the easiest protein is fish and seafood (tilapia is relatively cheap, I love shrimp too). Seafood is soft, and goes down much easier than chicken. I "supplement" the seafood with yogurt and peanuts and cheese. By eating your protein, I think that you re-establish a healthy eating pattern that you might not have with a bunch of powders, bars, etc.
I've lost muscle, of course, but I've lost a ton of fat too. And I'm guessing that a lot of my muscle was marbled like the best angus beef. The important question is: am I weak and lethargic? Quite the opposite, actually.

It is so much easier than the SURE-FAILURE of dieting my whole life, especially bc I'm not a good dieter.
I think it is easier/more productive than dieting, and I'm proud of that. Why in the heck should our lives be hard? What is more respectful about doing something the "hard" way...especially when the "hard" way is generally a temporary fix, at best.
I don't understand that thought although I've had plenty of people compare my weight loss to people that did it the 'hard' way. Whatever.....I think it is important to measure RESULTS, not effort.
Being overweight was such a handicap on my life all my life. There are so many things I couldn't or wouldn't do because I was overweight. It was so sad. I mean we only live once, apparently, so why should we not live our lives to the fullest? For the first time I am optimistic about my future years/future health.
Nothing respectable about dying young from a heart attack either. Leaving our kids for others to raise, leaving our future grandchildren for others to spoil. Our families need us, and I'm proud of each person here who has made such a great decision in this lifetime. We deserve to have a great life, to anticipate great things, to live life feeling vibrant!
I had an aunt that had the first lap band years and years ago, which it was initially a success but later, probably because it slipped, a failure. Without that solution, she died in her late 50's of a heart attack. I know that she is rejoicing in heaven that some of us have found an answer to never ending weight problems - Includng her own daughter, who now has the sleeve. It was my aunt's wish when I knew her that she could find a way to lose weight. And even though it didn't happen in her lifetime, I know she would be dang proud that we all found a way, a healthy way, to make a weight loss surgery work well.\\\
The person that gave me the hardest time about my surgery, which it wasn't a horrible lecture but wasn't pleasant either, she continues to gain weight. What is it like to be MORALLY RIGHT but be morbidly obese and unhealthy because of the obesity. What is more respectable about that? I don't think that Jesus would want us to live our lives suffering when there was a fairly simple solution. He himself healed people so they could live better lives. To me this is a modern day miracle that we found a solution that was so simple and accesible without creating other critical health problems!!
Amen to it being easier. That said, I just gained 4 lbs. AGH. This may be where the true work begins for me....because up until now it has literally been a PIECE OF CAKE.

renniemommie reacted to MINI-Me in COBRA insurance question..losing my Aetna
COBRA is a continuation of the exact benefits you have today - you just pay the full price of the coverage. You have 56 days to apply/pay and you get back dated to the day coverage ended. To keep "active" vs "COBRA" members accounted for in the systems, you may get a new ID card, but there will be no break in coverage. You should not have to re-submit your paperwork since you have the same benefits, etc. If they tell you that you do, ask for a supervisor immediately!

renniemommie reacted to Leesey in 65% weight loss
That number comes from a research study that can be located on the internet that discusses how people can lose 65% of their weight loss the first year, another 45% the second year and it is supposed to taper off after the second year at under 25%. These percentages are again based on all of the people who participated in the study. There is no finite percentage of what you will lose, this is just the mean ( the average amount of their weight lose). You could lose much more or much less, the person who has ultimate control over that is you.
Also when we are talking about 65%, this is not of your total weight this is of the unhealthy weight. For example, I was 410 pounds prior to my surgery, healthy weight for me is between 220 and 180 pounds. If you subtract 220 from 410 and also 180 from 410, you will get a range of the total amount of weight I need to lose, which is between 190 and 230 pounds. Based on the research study, if I am in line with those who participated in the study I should lose between 123.5 pounds and 149.5 pounds the first year, I got these numbers by multiplying 190 and 230 by .65. This is my weight loss only for the first year. the second year my starting weight should be between 286.5 and 260.5. Then the math starts all over again - my total excess weight will be between 67 and 118. So for my second year I would need to lose between 6 and 10 pounds per month. If all goes well my second year then at its conclusion I should have reached my goal weight. If it is lower then these projections I promise I will not complain, LOL.
But I use these numbers to determine if I am on schedule, behind schedule, or ahead of schedule on my weightloss. Again it is also important to note that you do not lose weight continuously rather it ebbs and flows. But here is how I do it, This may not be good for everyone, this is just my method. After calculating those numbers to meet my 65% I then divided them by 12 for the months in the year. So each month I should lose between 11 pounds and 13 pounds. If I lose above that then I am ahead of schedule, which is what I aim for. Heading into month 3 I am WELL ahead of these numbers, but this is normal in the first 6 months of the life. Pace yourself, follow your medical team's advice, and get your Vitamins, Protein and Water in and you will be just fine.

Why get a head start? Doesn't make much sense to me. I am not saying you should have a last hurrah, but you have two weeks of pre op diet, then surgery, and after that up to 6 weeks without half way decent food, that's 8 weeks... I wouldn't start a day early even though I understand your enthusiasm.

Thanks Tiffykins. I was originally pretty jazzed about the idea of the lapband but now I"m leaning more towards the sleeve.
It seems to boil down to whether I want long term effect/complications/maintenance. Or short term effect/complications.
The sleeve may take longer to recover from, but it may be a better long term solution. My insurance will cover either.
