My name is Andrew. I'm 5'4" and about 311 lbs. I've completed all required appointments and was submitted to insurance last Friday. So, now I wait ....
Hoping to get a surgery date in December, as we've met our out-of-pocket for this year and our health insurance is not going to be as good next year.
I'd lost about 10 lbs during my NUT visits, but have gained that back recently. Going through a food funeral stage now which is not good.

AtlantaRed reacted to jenpez in Can protein drinks be made ahead for the day?
Sometimes they thicken up and get yucky if they are left. If you sip on them throughout the day, that would be considered grazing, which is a no no for most if us. They are not hard to make and you can take a shaker with you quite easily if you need to. I am 10 weeks and have been weened off them for weeks. I am supposed to be getting my Protein from natural sources such as yoghurt, meat, fish, eggs, cheese.< /p>

Went to the recycling centre today. They have huge metal bins for you to put clothes in for recycling. There's a chute door high up and you reach up and pull down. It's pretty stiff and you need to really pull down on the handle with two hands to get it open and stuff the clothes in.
I have done this on many occasions in the past. As a short person, I jump up to catch the handle, then use my weight to bring it down. Not done it for a couple of months though. Today, l jumped, grabbed the handle and pulled, And pulled. But i just ended up hanging there. Eventually, i jumped, grabbed and it came down. Then went straight back up at speed with me hanging on for grim death...
It actually went beyond where it usually sits, so I was literally left swinging in the wind. The man who came to help me down could barely keep a straight face. He then opened the chute and I threw my stuff in. His suggestion as he walked away? "You need to put on a bit of weight before a wee thing like you tries that again..." I could have kissed him :-)))) It's the things you could never have dreamed of happening that make being sleeved a joy every day.

It has been a very long time since I've posted mainly because I couldn't log in with my password, but that is definitely not the point here. Just thought I should explain the absence!!!
A little history of me! I started preop on Halloween last year and had my surgery on November 12, 2012. To date, I have lost 135 pounds!!!! I went from 327 to 192. I was a size 26 jeans, 4X shirt. I am now in a size 12 jeans and an XL shirt (the "girls" haven't shrunk hardly at all, unfortunately!!!). I've even had to get my wedding ring sized down two sizes and probably needed to go down one more. My feet are smaller too and I now wear my beloved "hooker heels" simply because I can!!! I had been working from home for the past 5 years because I couldn't physically handle my nursing job anymore. I am now in the process of getting my nursing license reactivated so I can get back out in the real world. I never knew life could be so good! When I met my husband when I was a senior in high school 13 years ago, I weighed 208 pounds. Even he has never known me this size! I made a surprise visit to my surgeon's office last week. Unfortunately he was not in hype office, but my coordinator was and she was thrilled with my progress! She asked me if I would be willing to come back to town (we've since moved 3 hours away) to be a guest speaker on my success at my surgeon's seminar he is hosting in December. I accepted and now am trying to write my journey down on paper. I sure wish I would have kept a journal. Fat the first time in my entire life, two people have told me that it was time for me to stop losing weight. If I keep losing too much, I won't look healthy. Never did I ever think I would hear those words.
So, I present my latest progress pics!!!!

My surgery is scheduled for 12/2! I'm new to the forum. My name is Krysta and I'm 27 years old. I have battled with my weight for most of my life and I am currently at my heaviest I've ever been (5'6, 258lbs). I met with my surgeon yesterday and he is pretty amazing. He has operated on my stepdad and brother...they both have the sleeve. I originally wanted the lap band but my brother convinced me that the sleeve would be the best option for me, and after doing much research I believe that it will be as well. Good luck to everyone! I am looking forward to seeing everyone's progress and posting mine as well!

I have final clearance. My surgeon submitted my paperwork to insurance on the 25th of last month and I found out the 3rdof this month. I kept calling and bugging my insurance every couple days. lol I found out before my surgeons office did..lol. I don't have any left to do, just see the nurse practitioner once more to discuss hospital things and then my last set of blood work for the anesthesiologist. Going for surgery on Dec 13...so happy! Starting a new year is gonna be wonderfull this time

I am pre-sleeve but from my readings on here:
You can add unflavored Protein powder to anything, so Protein drinks don't have to be sweet.
powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes a chicken broth flavored Protein Powder that many find tasty.
What about different Soups where you strain out the solids? Egg-drop Soup?
Also, sometimes when people find they are hungry, it can be acids in the stomach. Many suggest trying an over the counter acid blocker if you're not already on one. Many times the hunger feeling is really acid.
    Hope some of that helps!

Hi all! I'm scheduled for December 16 in Tijuana, MX. My insurance has a specific exclusion for WLS so I am self pay. I'm not scheduled to start pre-op until December 1 but am considering Atkins during the last week in November. I have to say I'm a little nervous about the pre-op. I know I can do it. Good luck to everyone!

Hello everyone. I am scheduled for December 4th. I was approved back in August but due to family health issues and the start of a new position at work I had to push my date back but I'm all set. I just found this site a few days ago while going revisiting information about the surgery. I'm grateful for all of your posts. They have been very insightful. I was feeling somewhat disconnected because of the delay of my surgery. I went they all my clearances and weight management program from March - July and since then I haven't really have had any real significant contact or activity regarding the surgery with anyone. I have my nutrition class and pre admission testing on the 21st of November. I had fallen off the weight management a bit since my last appointment in June but I have placed myself back on it and am using the tools I've learned. I will have to go thru a pre op diet once I have my appt. so no thanksgiving for me this year but I'm very okay with that. I'm really looking forward to my day in December.

Wow! Sounds like you were able to swim right through!!
Our insurance doesn't cover so I am self pay. We are actually between insurance as hubby got a new job. Neither insurance covered it. However, I don't want to pay out of pocket for the testing so I have to wait until Nov 1 for new insurance to kick in to get the EGD and EKG. I paid out of pocket for psych eval. Went to 1 mandatory support group and 1 NUT appt. All I have left is EKG, EGD and final NUT class where I get all the info. As far as I know, I won't have a 2 week preop but she suggested a 3 day liquid. I don't have easy recoveries from surgery so I don't want to be cooking Thanksgiving meal and feeling terrible. I'm not telling my family. So, we will have Thanksgiving and hopefully I will have the surgery the following week!
I've read the board so much, sometimes I think I've already had the surgery! lol
    So excited!

December 9th!!!! I had the option to go in October but life and schedule didn't allow. But I'm just glad to have it scheduled and start the new year with a new me!!!! I'm 38 5'5 and currently 270. I start my two week liquid on Nov 25th, so no turkey and yams for this chick! I'm ok with it though...I decided to host an early Thanksgiving and have already told my family I will be a no show on turkey day. I comb through this web site every day and can't believe I'm finally starting this journey.
I have always had weight issues and have wanted wls forever but never had insurance that would cover it. Now I work for a local hospital and it's covered and I had a relatively painless process into all this. I got luck and was able to use most of my pre-testing from a recent gallbladder removal to satisfy my surgeon and ins. All I have left is the the labs the day before Thanksgiving and then the big day on Monday Dec 9th....oh yeah and I'm getting married October 26th!!!! New Year, new partner and new life! WATCH OUT 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so embarrassed by my before pics and I'm not even half way yet, but thought I'd be brave, and share where I'm at. I'm 5'6, HW 230, CW 195 so 35 lbs down.
Went to see my PCP. The whole office gets excited when one of us has an appt because we usually accompany each other, and they're DYING to see our weight loss.
The doc said my husband and I had already had more success than some of her sleeved patients EVER see. That was a sobering thought and should scare us all into being diligent.
She congratulated us on being so proactive about it and said that our focus on health and activity was good because the people who put it back on are invariably focused on a short-term goal like fitting into a dress or going to a reunion.
She ordered me to stop obsessing, stop being as type A as I was, and to cut myself some slack. So I will try And my thyroid meds were reduced for the second time since surgery. Yay!
Ok I've blabbed long enough to delay posting my picture but here it goes.

AtlantaRed reacted to lucky8mb1 in Will you lie about the surgery?
People shouldn't be asking about my personal medical procedures, so I shouldn't have to "lie" about anything. I didn't tell anyone, aside from husband, and 10+ months later it's still that way. It's no one's business. I think the real issue here is that we are considered the "liars" for not divulging our surgical plans, while the person who asks us about them is not scrutinized in the least. It's so not an appropriate thing to ask! They are the ones out of line, not us!
I also want to address a common statement I see on posts like these. Those who feel comfortable telling everyone, say they do it because they're not ashamed. I don't share because I'm ashamed. I'm just a private person.
