  1. It takes a few days for the lbs to catch up.... But today start upping your water and get back to measuring food and counting calories...before that number becomes insurmountable
  2. I think losing parents is so difficult.... So celebrate him as it sounds as if you're doing.... It I'll make you all feel better.
  3. FLORIDAYS replied to Fizzcat's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I would think about 2 months depending on your recovery....that's a questions for your dr.
  4. You look awesome. Congrats!!
  5. You crack me up AJ....
  6. The lap band surgery is simple on the scale of surgeries... I am having a tummy tuck in a few weeks and my surgeon said that was way more complicated... On a scale of 1-10 the pain was a 2 and the discomfort was about a 5 in my case.
  7. thanksLuckily my plastic surgeon does a lot of work with my bariatric dr so both know each others work.... I am hoping the port doesn't stick out too badly. I have a frowning belly button and a few folds I am so excited to get rid of The excess skin and a taught tummy will be the crowing jewel
  8. Mine came off with or without fills because i ate 1000 calories a day. The fills made it easier to live with myself because my food would help the food satisfy me for 4/5 hrs at a time instead of being hungry an hour after I ate such a small amount.
  9. I haven't had a unffill but I do remember the nurse telling me same rules apply... 24 hrs of liquid the 24 hrs of mushies.
  10. There are 3 rules you need to accept if you become a patient of my dr. The first is no carbonation ...ever. He said a sip of champagne now and then would be ok...but other than that I had to agree to eliminate it from my vocabulary. So I had a funeral for my beloved diet coke and what Stinks is my hubby drinks it like water so it's always in the fridge. But I just ignore it.
  11. There is no reason you and your daughter cannot diet together.... I don't know how old she is....but surgery is a last resort... Maybe you can explain it to her that she won't need a band if she changes her eating habits now learns to live a healthy lifestyle with you.
  12. I never had that happen. I would call the Dr and see what they say
  13. I am having mine on 12/18. My bariatric Dr said he could install a low profile port. My plastic surgeon said he didnt think it was necessary that he could work around it.... so I am going to leave it alone and hope for the best. My port isnt very visable all the time... just occasionally.
  14. 11 lbs is a good loss but its more about shrinking your liver for the surgery as its in front of the stomach. Good luck tomorrow!
  15. Thanks very much. I believe my Dr's support was a big part in my success. I am glad you have one you have confidence in. Interesting.... we havent heard from any Dr bashers yet....
  16. I am the same way.... but I have to do liquids the first 24 hrs so usually dont notice.... Also dont forget... as you lose weight, the fat around your stomach is reduced and that can effect how your band offers less restriction without warning
  17. How much food are you eating at your meals? You may be eating too much or too little. Also My Dr said the band is designed to hold you for 4 hrs between food... so maybe brunch at 11 and dinner at 6 is too long to go and your tummy is so empty the food makes it unsettled. Just an idea.....
  18. My dr doesnt really have a fill schedule...he decided on a fill based on my feedback and how well I am losing. I was banded 12/9. I thought I was having my first fill in January and ended up having it in February because I was losing so well. Then I had another in April and one in May when I finally hit the green zone. Granted the time before hitting the green zone is pure willpower even tho you willhave some restriction... so you could tough it out until you get home or the other option would be to wait and see. If you find you are really needing a fill you could schedule a quicky trip at that time. And BTW... I have no idea what an emergency kit is either.
  19. Hey Toddy I will come over and get rid of them for you.
  20. I have that mindset as well.... I had a medical device installed in my body by by choice... there is NO WAY I am going to do anything to jeopordize its ability to function the way it was intended. Having a band issue scares me to death.
  21. Having been around this site for the past couple of years it has proven to be a great source of motivation for me as I have learned to live with my band. As with many public forums it is comprised with many different personalities and people from all walks of life. But we all have one thing in common... we are fat people wanting to be thin and have found a tool which will help us achieve this goal. This forum was a great support for me but I never needed it to lose weight. My Dr told me how to do that and I drew from my own motivation the willpower to make it happen. Some of us are seeking info or just starting out, others are well on their way and many have been successful and want to give back to the band community they way someone gave to them at one time. I fall into the latter catagory. Although I am a pound from my original goal and 11 from my "stretch" goal I am pretty much done with the journey and am now just living my life as a thin person. But I am still here for several reasons... I enjoy seeing all the excitement and energy of new bandsters. I have been successful and I want to help others make this work for them as I have done...even tho I am not one to coddle or spoon feed.... Additionally I too still have questions about different things and its a great place get honest answers. But here is where my concern lies... It seems recently I have seen people struggling with all sorts of topics from pre op cheating, eating solids too soon after surgery or being in need of a fill and embarrassed to go to the Dr because they are up a lb or 2.. So it makes me wonder.... are some of the Doctors out there just sub par? Seriously.... while I used this forum alot... I leaned on my Dr for most of my information and instruction. He is wonderful. His staff is effective but of course I was ultimatly responsible for making it happen. Are most Drs like this or are they just there to give you the band and send you on your way? Or on the other hand is it that people think this is some miracle cure and you will be successful with little or no effort? Then when its doesnt work or they struggle the blame gets placed back on the Dr? I was just curious to hear your take....
  22. Other than a sugar free instant breakfast because I dont tolerate food in the mornng....I havent had a protein shake since I started on mushies. My Dr prefers I get my nutrition from food.
  23. I am 52 and once I made the decision to be banded I never looked back. SUrgery was a drastic step for me... it was going to work and I never thought it wouldnt. As I grew out of clothes I donated them. I do not have one stitch of clothing which is too big for me now. I am almost to goal... and I have decided I will never be fat again. Its that simple. I have a tool to help me in the band and I have a scale. I covet both and I will never... I repeat never let myself get out of control again.
  24. I am sorry you are hungry all the time but why the complete disregard of your band? Eating solids 2 weeks after surgery is dangerous unless thats what your dr ordered which I would be surprised to hear. And candy isnt exactly a nutritious selection. Usually during this time its liquids and mushies... did your Dr give you a post op diet? The band is a tool but you have to put forth the effort. And as much as this sounds like I am being uncaring.... its the honest truth.
  25. At least they gave you a date for the band surgery... hope your ankle heals quickly!
