  1. I had my labs drawn when I was about 9 months post op and I was deficient in a lot of things. I eat a varied diet with protein fruits and veggies. I am now taking iron among other things, even though I was taking a multi all along. I don't agree that we don't need to worry about being vitamin deficient. I just had blood drawn today, and I will find out if I have improved in the areas I was low in.
  2. Where are all the chatters? Does anyone want to talk? I will leave the window open just in case! come in and talk!
  3. You will be able to have a Philly cheesesteak. You won't be able to eat the whole thing of course. Honestly, there is nothing that I can't eat. Sometimes I can only eat a few bites of something as filling as that, but I can go back later and eat some more. One thing we do get used to as sleeved people, are leftovers!
  4. Anna it feels like such a short time ago you wrote to me for information about Dr. Aceves. I am so glad he did your surgery and you are as happy as all of his patients with your sleeve. I wish this had been available to me at your age. You go girl! You're rockin your sleeve!
  5. For me, my stomach just ached. It wasn't a hungry feeling, although I can see how people would mistake it for a hungry feeling. It's just a gnawing ache. Also, I do get some heartburn that will sometimes turn into nausea. You should be on an acid blocker or reducer for 6 months post op. I was on them for a year, but I am coming off of them now. It's getting easier, but the first few days were not fun.
  6. Tee Kanyes, Dimitrios I hope you are well. I am Greek/American. All my grandparents were born in Greece. You will love your sleeve. Welcome to sleeve talk. Hope to hear your update soon.
  7. have you had your Iron levels checked? Being low on iron can also be the cause of hair loss. The nausea should go away in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, keep trying to take sips to stay hydrated.
  8. Is anyone still up? Can anyone talk? I have the window open just in case.
  9. Nioxin didn't help my hair loss at all. I used it before surgery and for about 6 months after. I still lost a lot of hair, and all this shampoo did was make my hair really dry.
  10. I had the spinal and it was no big deal. They gave me some pill so I couldn't have cared less what they did to me.they put it in right before surgery and took it out in recovery. I had no pain when I woke up and they said it was because of the spinal. It really makes recovery easier and faster. The anesthesiologist will go over all of that with you.
  11. You're welcome! In the beginning, eating is definitely a learning experience.Just go at it slowly and don't try too much too soon. You will get used to what you can eat and how much, if you only stick with a few foods at first before introducing something new.
  12. Aren't they wonderful? I love how everyone who has gone there all say the same thing and you can't find one complaint by anyone on any WLS board about him, the hospital, or his staff. I want to go back there just to go and visit all of them!
  13. I had my own PJs. I walked around outside a lot so I wanted something that would be suitable to wear outside. I brought the little packages of K20 Protein Water to mix in water on the plane ride home.
  14. I am doing quite well off my PPI. I was really kind of worried the first few days. I got an email from Dr.Aceves that told me to take prilosec every other day, but I don't think I am going to need to do that. I have taken a few sips of gavescon a few times, but the last few days, I don't need anything.
  15. Dr. Aceves wanted us to be off of them at 6 months but I waited a year. I have an appt. with my pcp soon and I am definitely going to talk to him about this. I am worried about Calcium absorption. I know we are supposed to absorb calcium citrate but since I had a bone density test last fall, and it showed the beginning of osteoporosis, this is something I am very concerned about. that is why I want off the PPI.
  16. I followed Dr. Aceves post op diet to the letter. Since he did your revision, I sincerely doubt you need to worry about a leak. He has never had one, so I can't see any reason why you would be his first. On my 10 days of full liquid, I had egg drop Soup from the Chinese restaurant. I had a lot of different Protein shakes and tomato soup with cottage cheese blended in a blender so that it was smooth and creamy. I also had yogurt. On my 10 days of soft foods, I ate a lot of chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad. I choose whatever foods were on the list I was given. When I moved to solids, I decided I didn't like the feeling so I stayed on mushies longer and tried a couple bites of solids per day. It was not easy in the beginning. I got full from 2-4 bites of food. One time I ate some fish and thought I was going to explode. I needed to learn to stop eating before I felt full. I was much more full 20 min after I was done eating than I was at the table. I bought those little cans of already made chicken salad. I looked at my portion on my plate and imagined if it would fit in that can. If it was more than that, I knew I would be sorry later. I am much better now at knowing when to stop. I can eat anything I want and I just know by looking at it when to stop. It's hard to get a full signal Feel free to ask anything you need to. We are all happy to help!
  17. I lost over half my hair but it's growing back nicely now. The sleeve is the most wonderful thing I have ever done for myself! I love not being hungry and all the advantages being thin has brought into my life. I have never been happier!
  18. I don't think Prilosec is a PPI. I just looked at the box. It's an acid reducer, not an acid blocker like Protonix.
  19. Maybe you should get a prescription for some nausea medication. There are a lot of people who had to be on it at first. You will get dehydrated if you don't take in enough liquid, so speak to your doctor about a prescription.
  20. I am one year past having my band removed and getting my sleeve. I have perfect restriction and I wish I had been born with this size stomach. I am having the time of my life being thin at this age!
  21. I have been off about 10 days now. I am excited that the heartburn is so much better. I haven't had to take any gavescon or prilosec. Prilosec is what Dr. Aceves told me to take every other day. I don't think I am going to need to do that. I seem to be adjusting just fine.
  22. No, actually it was written by a former patient of his. She is a nurse and they became very good friends. He asked her to write it and she gathered all the information together and verified it all, then had it approved by Dr. Aceves before it was printed. It's a standard email now that his office will send out if anyone asks about his experience or qualifications.
  23. I am so sorry it's been rough for you. You might try to contact tiffykins. She had a leak and a very rough start, but she loves her sleeve now. Please know we are all thinking of you and pray you're home soon. Eventually, I am sure you'll be glad you did this, when you're throwing out all the clothes that fall off of you.
  24. Yes, I started taking Biotin before band surgery and continued it. so I have been taking Biotin for about 3 years. I don't know why I became amnemic. I know red meat is high in Iron, and I wasn't eating a lot of red meat. I have made sure to start eating more iron rich foods and my levels will be tested again soon.
  25. You are very welcome! Dr. Aceves is a fabulous doctor and much more experienced and qualified than many Mexican surgeons and surgeons in the US. The hospital and very clean and I would never recommend him like I do if I had not been there myself to see what a wonderful, caring doctor he, and all of his staff are. I received better care there than I did in the hospital here when I had other surgeries.
