This is the hardest thing I've ever done! The physical part is very challenging but the mental/emotion aspects can, at times seem overwhelming. I try to remember this thing. Feelings/emotions and thoughts are fleeting. They don't last for long. Try distracting yourself with something else. I color in color books, read, watch a movie, call someone to talk go on line. Just fine whatever you things are to get your mind off of "I must eat, I want to eat, EAT-EAT-EAT!!!! The mental aspect of why we've all eaten ourselves in to bariatric surgery and how to overcome/deal with the new stomach/life style, etc. should be worked on so we don't return to those same habits. I hope my opinion is helpful to you. May God bless you and keep you!

I made the most amazing dinner for my family tonight, grabbed my protein shake and went into my bedroom to eat it. Most days I'm good. Today I was a bit resentful. The full liquid phase is pretty tough. We work to get the surgery, we have these dreams of how amazing it will be, and then we go home to the reality. The reality is losing weight is hard and it requires self denial. Until we accept that we must deny ourselves no weight will come off even with a tiny tummy. You've started a process that requires an "all in" attitude to work. So have I. And some days it's hard but most days I'm in it so succeed. When you get the notion to go off plan use distraction to change your thinking. I visualize how I see myself in a year, or I head to Hulu and watch Hungry For Change or the Perfect Human Diet to motivate me. You can do this. We all can. Take care

    Exercise!

I am 8 days post op.. I'm still off of work because of the obvious restrictions. But I'm worried about exercise, should I be worried. What should I be doing if anything? What are you guys doing for exercise?

    Drain Tube

I'm currently in hospital. Had surgery today and didn't get a drain bag. I asked my nurse just an hour ago and she just said not everyone gets it, but didn't give explanation. I'll ask my surgeon tomorrow. One unexpected thing I didn't think I would have is pain from breathing. When my chest cavity expands, it causes pain. They say it's normal so I continue walking to try to get air out. Also, very much cotton mouth after surgery. They didn't let me drink any water until 4hrs after surgery was complete. Once I was allowed water, I was only allowed to take sips of one ounce every 15 minutes.

    Diet Coke

You need to forget about the carbonated beverages! Didn't your surgeon go through this with you? It expands your stomach and can do damage as well. You've come this far, stay focused, you can get past the urges!

    Week 1 of VSG Journey

Last Friday at 12:30pm I had my vsg procedure. Everything went smooth. I was walking within 30 minutes, and sipping Water. I was released around 6pm. The first evening was a bit painful from the gas, and I slept in a recliner. I was able to sip on more water. Day 2 similar in gas pain. Gas X and walking helped a lot. I have no issues getting 60 - 70 oz of liquids. I primarily drink water, but like the sugar free Popsicles, Jello and broth. My only issue now is lower back pain. I have an appointment with my pcp today, so I will inquire with her. I have no issues with getting in Protein. Right now I'm using EAS shakes (vanilla & chocolate), and typically in the morning I have a premier shake from Walmart. I like to start with premier because it has 30g of protein. I add GENEPRO Protein powder to broth, and have made up a blender concoction with it. My blender drink is ice, skim milk (3oz), genepro (tsp), and chocolate EAS shake. I am currently down 18lbs. This may sound like a lot, but my doctor didn't have the pre op diet. So I'm prepared for it to slow down soon. Height 6'7 SW 372 CW 354 GW 260 SW 372 GW 260
