    Liquid Diet PO

I survived for the first 5 days post op on just water. I'm 8 days post op now. I packed water, sf jello, broth for immediately post op. I hated the jello after because of the sf taste (fine with it beforehand) and also hated the broth for no good reason. Finally had creamy soup yesterday and had gas pain/bloating. We will see how it goes. I did like the easy crunch ice (from Zaxbys/sonic). Medicine wise: I packed chloraseptic spray (throat sore post intubation for surgery) and gasX. My advice: prepare to be flexible with finding what you like and be PATIENT with yourself. I kept feeling like I should be able to drink more, get more protein in (starting day 6). Truth is that I'm no where near my goal for fluid or protein. I just can't take that much in. But I get a little more each day, and I'm happy with that for now.

    Hopefully November sleeve!

I'm so ready for this. I was scheduled for August 16th for the sleeve but when they got in there the Dr found a massive haital hernia. So it took priority and now it's almost healed. They said November surgery. Just called the Dr's office and they said they'll have the scheduler get hold of me. Yay!!! Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hopefully November sleeve!

Yes it is. It's been since June of 2021 I've been waiting and jumping thru the hoops. It was very disappointing in August that it wasn't done but necessary. So I've just been trying to be patient. Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app

    sleep apnea

So i have lost close to around 100lb. So i have a cpap machine and once in a while when i am real tired i forget to use it. Before surgery if i did that i would take up with a massive headache and i have yet to have that happen. I did not use my machine two days ago either and no issues. I guess i would need another sleep study to find out if i actually still need it or not. I actually like using my cpap which everyone thinks is weird lol.

    Carbs yes or no

I suspect this is one of the reasons many doctors (like mine), recommend a lower carb diet, at least initially after WLS. I personally have a love/hate relationship with low carb dieting. I lost a great deal of weight doing low carb ~20 years ago, but ended up gaining it all back and then some, because I found it unsustainable long-term. As a result, I'm intending to take more of a "smart-carb" approach this time. The reality is, not all carbs are the same. My plan is to limit my intake of simple carbs, especially processed foods as much as possible, while adding in complex carbs via whole foods as tolerated.

    sleep apnea

I had rather severe sleep apnea before surgery as well. I had a CPAP as well, but I generally didn't use it because it really bothered me. My apnea has disappeared completely, but I'm afraid I can't say at what point it did--which I realize isn't terribly helpful.

Scared to go through with surgery

Sometimes doctors are so used to hearing the same old stories day in and day out that they just assume that they have heard them all and quit actually listening. The ONLY remotely logical reason I can think of them wanting you to have surgery while you are actively losing on your own would be if they expect you to lose some and then stop losing. If you lose and get below the BMI threshold you would no longer qualify unless you gained again. My question would be how close to a normal BMI you can get on your own. If it were me I would wait and see how much you can lose on your own. Only you know how you are really eating and if it’s all related to this illness that is now being treated it should reverse itself. You can always have the surgery down the road if you don’t lose like you think you will. Sounds like your gut is already telling you to wait. I say trust it.

    Liquid Diet PO

Can add collagen with no problem but just don't count it in your total protein goal since it is not a complete protein. Another thing, don't buy too much because the liquid stage will go by fast and you will be stuck with tons of extra you "won't want to look at for a very long time" type of stuff lol. I still have tons of protein powders, bariatric soups, shakes that are sitting in a box.
