    Help. In Pain.

Hmmm. I’m not allowed beef until four months post op and my surgery was 12/2. Anyways I started soft food this week. I noticed if I eat a bit too fast, or do not chew chew chew, I get a sharp pain behind my sternum. I don’t know if this is what you are experiencing or not but be mindful of the size of your bites, how fast you are eating, and make sure everything is chewed thouroughly. I likely would not try beef for awhile either. My biggest problem is slowing down. I have always been a fast eater.

    Pre Op diet disaster

I think the point of the liquid diet is to prepare you mentally for what's to come. Right now, you can cheat a little and nothing horrible will happen (unless you don't shrink your liver and your doctor decides not to do your surgery....it's happened) But here's the problem.... Immediately after surgery, you have about two to three days where you don't ingest ANY calories...just clear fluids. Then, you're on shakes and clear liquid for TWO MORE WEEKS. You'll get like 400 calories a day if you're lucky. And If you screw up and eat something AFTER surgery? You can really hurt yourself and end up needing emergency surgery for whatever you get stuck. My doctor did a talk about all the horror stories of his career....the stupid things people ate and the trouble they got into. Not good. AVOID THIS. You're just getting started. For me, it was the post surgical period where I nearly gnawed my own arm off. LOL But yeah...that MONTH of freakin starvation just sucked. It really did. Honestly....it was much harder (in my opinion) than the actual surgery. But the good news...is that you will survive it. And you'll drop quite a few pounds to soothe your misery. And you'll be eating yogurt and cream of wheat before you know it. I was on the liquid diet for Thanksgiving and cooked for my family. OMG...so hard! For Christmas, though...I get to eat finely cut up turkey and mashed potatoes. And it sounds like heaven. You all have my sympathies. Stay strong!

    Surgery scheduled 1/29 woo hoooo!

Best of luck in your surgery.. as far hair loss try biotin pills, take pills asap, I think it takes like a month to kick in... also keep track of your protein intake..as far as hair loss, dont panic, is not like you will end up like Bruce Willis. Take your biotine, meet your protein intake. you are almost there.. best of luck!

    why do people assume

This. Both losing and maintaining is finally possible without that much hassle. I'd say the "normal" amount of vigilance a lot of other people who were never fat have to use is necessary to not gain at the moment. Because fat people need to be punished and need to suffer - at least this is what a lot of people seem to be thinking. Others might be thinking "I need a lot of discipline to battle my weight, too - why should you have it any easier?" which boils down to naked envy.

I am 11 months Post-surgery and I am doing great. just hit 100 lbs lost and 5 lbs past my goal. feel great. the hair loss has been bad for me also. I get the same comments, "STOP LOSING" it is a bit irritating but oh well they mean well. just another way to say I look good. so this point in not really trying to lose weight but I'm still losing about 4 lbs a month.
