    Just Getting Started

Hi Jen- I'm recently banded- 1/26/12, and it's the best thing I've ever done! The time frame can be anything from insurance requirements (I had to do a 6 month diet with my PCP) to health issues- any number of things. I was motivated, did what they told me to do as far as the appointments, the labs and tests (I just had the labs- cholesterol, vit D, etc and a chest x-ray and ekg- super easy), and the pre-op diet- and that will vary depending on your dr. Good luck- and remember, it's a process, you still have a lot of work to do to make good food choices and exercise- it's not a magic bullet, but an extremely helpful and useful tool.

    Surgery Tomorrow! Yikes!!"

You will be absolutely fine - literally you will go to sleep and wake up banded - easy as that - will feel like it happened in seconds. Recovery was actually pretty nice - got to relax, watch tv, sleep, take pain meds, have my hubby wait on me - it was like a little vacation! Yes the gas pain hurt but that was the worst of it and i'd do it all over in a second!!!! Best of luck to you tomorrow!!!!!

I am suprised you were on solids one week post op. Did you move ahead of your doctor's food schedule? Anyway. Do you have a food scale? I highly recommend a digital food scale so you can measure out your protein. My doctor says 3 oz of protein (mushies during recovery and then solids). If you are on solids have about 1/2 cup of veggies and when the food is gone stop eating. Hard I know but that's why it's called bandster hell.

    Fears

Honestly, for me the biggest fear is that it won't work. I have failed so many times before, it's like I'm conditioned to expect failure. But I am refusing to let myself dwell on that. I've been slogging my way through my emotional food issues in hopes that it will help me succeed once I am banded. Plus I have been "speaking success" over this - telling myself and anyone who will listen about how positive this process is and how great it will be to lose the weight and keep it off. I am giving my fear over to the Lord, meditating on my success and allowing Him to provide it for me. Kind of like "let go let God" I guess. Getting stuck does sound scary, but I think it'll be easier to deal with once it actually happens. The first time, all you have to do is remember not to panic, and then if it happens again you will know what to expect and how to handle it. Great topic, by the way.

No Bm For 5 Days... Worried!

I think i went about 5 days post op the surgery and meds alone do cause some digestive movement problems. You are only consuming liquids so u wont get much movement either till u start on more substantial food. Walking and water seem to clear the problems for most , but u may very well need to phone the docs and ask before it goes on any longer

    Snack Ideas

My favorite snack is the Emerald brand almonds(cocoa flavored) mixed with some blueberries. I mix it with the blueberries so I wont eat too many of the almonds. They are a great source of Protein but could be a lot of calories if you eat too many of them. Another snack I eat almost every night i s sugar free choc pudding mixed with a couple teaspoons of fat free cool whip and a half scoop of unjury proteing powder. That is a great way of getting in some extra protein. If I have an urge for some chips, I will eat about 20 Special K chips. That is less than a hundred calories and they are actually quite good. My nutritionist says to stay away from snacking also, but I lose weight so much better if I eat small, low calorie meals and have a couple of low calorie high proteing Snacks in between. It also helps me to feel satisfied all the time and not eat a bunch of junk that I shouldnt eat because I always know that I am going to get something good to eat every couple of hours but I make good choices about what to eat.

    Port Placement? And Friends?

Excuse my language but Screw Them. People just want something to be nasty about. People dont' have the right to complain I'm fat and then complain when I loose weight. Choose a side you can't have both.

    Confused :(

She isn't actually 15lbs underweight. She is still within a normal BMI range. I think it's good that she's questioning the way her mind works and is trying to head it off before it goes too far. I absolutely loathed it when people told me I was too skinny. I didn't see it at the time and nothing anyone said was going to make a difference. I needed to process it on my own, in my own head. Just like you can't lose weight for anyone but yourself, you can't gain it for anyone but yourself too. I think getting a small unfill is a positive step in the right direction, Patriceaa. You know what the issue is, now control that as you've controlled your weight all this time too.
