Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Thinking about skin removal or cosmetic surgery after weight loss? Talk about tummy tucks, arm lifts, breast lifts, thigh lifts, and other post-WLS procedures.

  1. Shopping for a plastic surgeon for a breast lift and aug. Anyone from in or around Houston area had this surgery and happy with your results?

  2. I feel strange starting this topic, considering my limitations on budget and physical limitations as well. I’ve got a lot going on right now and one would think this would be the least of my concerns. But as my Birthday rapidly approaches next month and I dread thinking about it - at the same time I also think about the weight loss journey I have been on. Whilst I am grateful for it, I am sad that it came that far, that I was unable to maintain all my hard work on my own and ended up all the way back where I had started at over 200lbs over 14 years ago. Of course it had started long before then. My weight had gone haywire due to metabolic disorders, chronic illness and mo…

  3. Wanting to get 3 procedures at once. The arm lift, breast lift with augmentation and the 360. Any great docs in my area? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

  4. While I was much bigger at 390...I'm still rather LARGE+++ at 250 lbs (ok, scale said 253.2 today..sigh). It seems that most of the people I've followed when I've had time were already at their goal weight before finding dr's and talking procedures/options. I can see that this probably is required as it would be hard for a doctor to correctly advise/tell what I'm going to have leftover at 170 vs. 253.2. 170 is my first goal - obviously the 'charts' want me at 140-150..sigh. I guess the ONE thing that I can do is start saving money...a whole LOTTA money! I wish I could tell 'now' what procedures I'd want done and in what order. I KNOW I want my arms done…

  5. It's official! My date is may 1st! Not sure if anyone is following my story but insurance approved my skin removal surgery but the surgeon charges cash up front and you are then "reimbursed" which was a $5,000 reimbursement on a$20,000 surgery. No thank you! I'm going the "cash patient" route. I didn't want to, but I've got to! I'm tackling my most hated (loved) body part, my fupa. It's carried 2 children, gained and lost weight. I can't say I'll miss her LOL. Any advice for a tummy tuck patient? What's my must haves post surgery?

  7. So. I'm only almost four days out and I'm already wondering about plastics. Are they pretty much inevitable? Is there anything that can be done to prevent them? Special toning exercises, etc? Just curious...

I am scheduled for later this month - brachio and modified TT (skin only). My PS office said I can put the garments in the washer on cool and dryer on cool while I take a shower. Will they dry fast enough for me to put it back on an hour later. I thinking the longer they are off the more you swell and the harder it will be to put it back on. The abdominal one has a fasten at the bottom to go to the bathroom easy but is Velcro around the waist so it seems like it would be easy to get back on. However, the arm one sounds more difficult. Should I buy a different arm one to have on hand? They will be giving me a long sleeve one that I should wear for 6 weeks. If th…

I had gastric sleeve in December 2015. At the time I weighed 335 and I am currently down to 185. I am working hard at losing another 15 prior to surgery. I have a few surgeons in mind but am having a hard time finding ones that specialize in post massive weightloss body contouring. I would love recommendations. I am ok with travelling out of the country for someone who is known for these skills.

  10. Started by Georgetown,

I just had my arm lift last Wednesday. The pain has not been to bad at all. I’ve just been taking Tylenol. I was able to shower two days after and I was kind of surprised when I took the bandages off, how much skin was left. I’m really, really hoping once the swelling goes down they will look better. Did this happen to anyone else after their arm lift? I have my follow up on Wednesday with my dr. I’m going to ask him. I was realistic going in that I wasn’t going to have the arms of an athlete. I just wanted to be comfortable wearing sleeveless tops. I hope this wasn’t a waste of money! Fingers crossed it gets better.

I was wondering if anyone has gone to Mexico for a mommy makeover and what your experience was

  12. Hello- I've lost 80 lbs with another 40 to go til goal. I'm saving up for all the plastic surgery I'm going to want/need, which will include a lower body lift, breast lift, and arm lift. I live just north of Seattle. My insurance will pay for a panniculectomy only, so most of the costs will be out of pocket. I'm considering getting this done out of the country to save on costs, but don't love the idea of flying soon after surgery. I'm considering Vancouver, BC because it is only a 2 hour drive away. Has anyone priced PS in Canada? I imagine the cost might be similar, but there may be savings with our favorable exchange rate. I'd love to hear of anyone who has…

  16. Started by mousecat88,

So, I am using some scar cream on the scars from the bra-band skin excision I had done several weeks ago. It really doesn't seem to be doing anything, but I am continuing with it anyways. BUT, 1oz was 30$. I am having a TT and arm lift in 3 weeks and 1oz will NOT last very long and I don't want to spend God knows how much on cream! I hear the tape is a good option, so I may go with that. I have been reading that you can use the tapes for 3 days, take it off, wash it, and reuse it. Is this true??? Seems gross. How does it continue to stick and how does the silicone remain effective? Any links to good tape? I gots questions. lol.

I am getting ready to set up my appointment for late Feb. for a modified TT (skin only) and brachio. I am so anxious. I need to just call, pay the deposit and commit to it. i will have an appointment 2 weeks before to discuss details but i wanted to ask if any of you had to stop your high dose vitamin for a day or longer before surgery.

  18. I was so happy when I found out insurance approved my body lift ad a medical procedure (not cosmetic). See, I suffer from skin rashes, boils and irritation. Both in the folds in my stomach and also under my butt cheeks. I have the scars to prove them. After submitting all my records they approved me.... GREAT NEWS! I cried tears of joy when I got approved. But that's where it ended. Every surgeon requires cash payment up front, no big deal. But what is a big deal is the MINIMAL about insurance pays for this procedure. The cash price of $22,000 (some places as low as $19,000) is expensive. Insurance only allows around $3,000 for the entire procedure! IT'S A …

Hey all! I'm 3.5 years out from gastric sleeve and I haven't stopped into these forums for a while. I've been putting off plastics because my life is a blur time-wise, but I'm getting married in May and would like to reap the benefits of the brachioplasty for my wedding dress, since my arms are always my biggest point of insecurity. They've always been disproportionate, and even more so now that I lost the weight. I also wanted a tummy tuck and LBL, but we want to try for kids right away, so I'll deal with that down the road if ever. Well, I pulled the trigger and did it!! Tuesday was my surgery down in Monterrey, Mexico for arms and legs. It wasn't easy. I…

  26. Hi everyone, I'm still preop and aged 48, I'm being optimistic that I will lose the weight and am interested in having an arm lift, breast lift, and anything else I need lifted, lol. I've seen people say why bother over age 40 you are too old no need at that ;point in your life. Yes, I will be 49 and pushing 50 and I'm not trying to be a sex symbol but I it's something I want. Am I being vain? I know my younger years are behind me.

  28. I got a tummy tuck with muscle repair and liposuction on December 11th. The surgical staff at the VA were awesome. Some of the staff remembered me from my gallbladder surgery (probably helps that there are not that many woman). I let them decide what was best for my belly button. They ended up doing a hybrid of part of my cord and added a little to it (they removed my outie when I had my gallbladder surgery). My stomach is definitely flat and everything looks good. Can’t really tell about the thighs yet because I still have some swelling, but I can fit in my jeans, so not to bad. Lessons learned- my surgery was same day and I slept an hour past my pain meds after re…

  32. Started by rs,

I'm 16 months post sleeve surgery. Been in maintenance mode for about 4 months. Tomorrow I'm having an extended arm lift. A bit nervous about the drains and the pain and uncomfortableness of recovery, but excited for short sleeve shirts and tank tops next summer! Eventually I hope to have all the other skin removal surgeries, but I need to save for them first.

Hello world! I am getting ready to schedule my trip from Alaska to Mexico to get a lower body lift. They want close to $40,000 to do this up here, so obviously, that isn't happening. Really looking at Dr. Carmina Cardenas. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with her and the facility? How long did you end up staying there? Any complications? Thank you in advance.

  34. I went to my Pre-Op appointments yesterday and learned that the VA no longer covers cosmetic plastic surgery. Because I scheduled my surgery previously, I am still in, but they will not do a fat transfer to the breast because it is purely cosmetic. I have loose skin and need muscle repair (the Dr. said my separation isn't that bad) and they justified the thigh liposuction by documenting chaffing. The Dr. was like "your thighs rub together and get irritated right?" On the plus side they are going to liposuction inner and outer thigh, which according to my DEXA scan is where I carry the majority of my fat. My weight has maintained between 140-145. I also learned that …

As of right now, I received quotes from two different surgeons for an arm lift. One was close to $15,000 and another was about $10,000. The tummy tuck for the higher end surgeon was in the $20k's and the lower end surgeon would give me a price right now. I have read on other forums, a lot of people use resident hospitals for plastic surgery. They say it is 1/3 of the cost and that a board certified surgeon is present for the surgery and supervises the whole thing. I'm close to the NYC area which has excellent hospitals so I know I'd be in good hands. Anybody on here look into resident hospitals for their plastics? Resident hospital is looking better and…

Hello All, I’m on Day 5 post-op of an abdominoplasty (minus the muscle tightening). I have a few questions for anyone who has done this and can maybe help? 1) My compression feels like I’m stuffing 2 pounds of sausage in a 1 pound casing. Should it BE that tight? Hubby says yes, that he made a point of asking the surgeon and then watching them do it while I was in recovery. My sides feel like they BURN (no incision, just like the skin is being rubbed raw!). I put an old cotton shirt under the compression garment, but it doesn’t feel like it’s helping. Could it be something under the skin that feels like it’s irritated or burning? Anyone feel this before? 2) Ho…

  37. I am preparing for my tummy tuck and arm lift, towards the end of January. I will stay in a hotel for three nights, then over to an Airbnb guest house for the next 13 days. I have read that I will not want to lay down, and a recliner would be ideal. Well, I won't have one of those! I bought a power seat lift from amazon. Also bought one of these travel pillows, so I can rest sitting up. Also, a portable, hand held bidet. (I heard it can be a little tricky to bend side to side) For some reason I can not make my links stick, but you get the idea. You put the power seat lift (looks a little like a booster seat), on any arm chair and it will tilt you up or …

  38. Instead of making a new thread for each of my quandaries and appointments, I'm just going to post here. lol. My home equity loan is approved! I go for closing on Friday. I have $40,000 dedicated solely to plastics, but I don't intend to spend more than 20K. I have my consult with my surgeon on August 16th for an arm lift and tummy tuck and to do something about my "side boob" area. They WILL do a tummy tuck and arm lift simultaneously. TO BE CONTINUED! 43. I have some across a "new" technique that a few surgeons do and have seen info. on you tube for a incision that goes along on the back of the arm. The supposed benefit is that if you raise your arm up then people don't see the scar since it's on the back of the arm. Maybe it's just me but I think a scar along the back of my arm that's visible 100% of the time in any short sleeves would be more noticeable. Sure only the people behind you see it but I still think that a scar on the inside of the arm is better. Thoughts?

  44. So, the VA referred me to plastic surgery to have a cyst removed from my knee. The surgeon said I qualified for skin removal because of the amount of my weight loss. I had no idea they would cover this, because they don’t cover Bariatric surgery unless you are on tri-care. The nurse practitioner said he is a good surgeon and that she would let him do work on her. I requested the referral and my Dr. put it in. We met and he said he could do the tummy tuck with liposuction and even make fake abs if I want them. He said the skin on my thighs isn’t as bad but that he could liposuction my inner thighs during the same operation. He also said the fat could be injected into my b…

Can't wait to get my TT next month. I have my pre-op appointment this Friday morning. I'm still on the fence if I'm just gonna do a Tummy Tuck or go with the fleur-de-lis procedure. The surgeon said I might be happier to get rid of some of the laxity around the mid section and go with the fleur-de-lis. It adds $600 to the price which is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I just don't know if I want a scar going up the middle of my body to my breastbone.?‍♂️ The good news is the doc does not recommend tightening my ab muscles because he said they should be in pretty good shape and that's where most of the pain and longer term discomfort comes from. Anyhow…

  48. I haven't been on this site in a while but I just had to share that I will be having my lower body lift on June 21st! I am so excited. And for anyone who may be interested, I am having it done by Dr Bruce Mast at the University of Florida. He is top in his field and UF is a top medical school. They do it as an outpatient procedure so I will be home the same day and because it's a teaching hospital it is so much cheaper than private practice. he will be doing my inner thighs, arms, and breast lift in November as well.

Hi all, I travelled to Turkey and had a tummy tuck with lipo on the back. No muscle repair was needed, thank goodness. 1st day and 2nd day were rough. By day three it seemed to be getting better. Today is day 5. There is no pain near the incisions, and I have to just be careful to keep them from getting wet. I still have a drain. I started with two but doctor removed one of them today and the other one is still in and getting fluids. For those of you who have gone through this, any words of tips, what to look out for for, what to look forward to, and anything else will be so appreciated.
