Premier Protein Drinks Review - Chocolate

blogs/blog-0122808001373838387.jpgI almost finished my first one without stopping, it was so good. The chocolate shakes deserve 2 thumbs up in a Z formation!

Very good taste, no grittiness. I like them better than the EAS chocolate carb control shakes. Although I do wish both brands were a little thicker.

I've tried Muscle Milk, EAS, Pure Soy and Premier Protein chocolate shakes and Premier Protein has been the best for flavor and smoothness. Very yummy, almost as good as chocolate milk.

Price wise, they are a little more expensive than EAS. EAS are 4 for $5 at Walmart. Premier Protien was 12 for $19 at Sam's Club (my Walmart didn't carry Premier).

But as good as Premier tastes, I will won't mind paying a little more. I only wish Sam's had the Premier Protein bars as well - but they were sold out. Maybe next trip.

Are these whey protein isolate? That is what I was told to drink because we can't process the regular protein drinks. I don't know why.

Yes, they do have SOME Whey Isolate in the ingredients. But they also contain whey concentrate. They don't give the percentages of each.

Whey Isolate is recommended because it is more completely digested by your body than Whey Concentrate.

EAS are isolate and concentrate combination, not pure isolate (I am drinking one at the moment and read the label. Isolate is first then concentrate. I will have to try premier! That's a lot of grams of protein and only 50 calories more.

I rely on the Premier Protein to get enough protein. Half way through a carton I stick it in the freezer for 5 or 10 minutes, I like it much better kind of frosty. I got tired of the vanilla easily I wish my Sams Club sold the Strawberry but I am stocked up on Chocolate because I know I will be drinking it for months.

Funny I thought the EAS cost more here, I will have to look into it again.

Pre Op

Premier Protein bars are on sale a Costco right now, 18 for $15.

I like the EAS Rich Dark Chocolate best, but for 30 grams of protein, I do the Premier, too. It's a great way to knock out the bulk of my protein at one time. If you are like me and don't like the oversweetness of either, add a 1/3 cup of dried nonfat milk and blend. It adds protein and cuts the sweet. Makes it thicker, too.

I agree, Premier are my favorite too. Costco sells them in an 18 pack for 24 dollars. I have not tried the bars yet, but may pick some up today!

My local Sam's sells the bars and shakes and I love the bars! They're too many calories for me right now but I think the vanilla yogurt flavor is wonderful.

I love it too. Like to drink them over ice with leftover morning coffee.

The shakes are not just at Sam's and Costco - I just found them in 4-packs at my local Winn-Dixie!

LOVE premier - super jealous that you have the resealable kind because my local Costco just has the pull tops that aren't resealable. :(

That said, the chocolate is fantastic. I have some vanilla ones to mix with other things - but they are a little too sweet for my taste on their own. However, mixed with some fresh berries, or peanut butter, or SF Chai powder, they taste great. Same cal/protein content as the chocolate.

I've been using these since pre-op, my NUT gives them 2 thumbs up!

I couldn't deal with the whey scent in any of the powdered protein drinks, they made me physically gag. Finding the Premier Protein shakes (on the advice of my program's excellent dietician) was the only thing that made this surgery possible for me.

I'M NOT SCHEDULED TIL AUG 6TH BUT I READ THAT THE PREMIXED PROTEIN DRINKS MAYBE TO THICK TO DRINK AFTER SURGERY, DID ANY OF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM? ALSO, I REALLY LIKE A MIX CALLED "SPARK ", YOU MIX IT WITH WATER & IT HAS VITAMINS & MINERALS BUT HAS 120MG OF CAFFEINE. IT WOULD HELP DURING POST-OP WHEN FEELING SLUGGISH. ANY TAKES ON THIS INFO.? THANKS KAREN

The EAS and Premier Protein shakes were on my approved food list - starting on the 2nd week. I found them a little thin but good, for my taste. But you should ask your doctor when you're allowed to drink them.

I tried a sample of Spark last week - I'm 6 months post-op, and Frankensleeve did not like it at all. I drank about half a glass and had to stop. And it did not taste good - kinda bitter. I tried the fruit punch.

But VSG'ers are told not to drink caffeine the first few weeks after surgery, as it is a stomach irritant.

I like the Premier Protein shakes from Costco, too, so convenient since it's premade. For powder, Syntha 6 is my favorite so far. I can't believe the difference in brands. Some are just so nasty. I ordered a bunch of samples like others suggested. It's a great idea to get that figured out, because I'm not dreading the liquid phase now.

I work at SAMs in Memphis & we carry the Premier Protein bars now. Their shakes are by far my favorite. We only have vanilla & chocolate but I was told that Costco has strawberry too but I haven't checked that out
