Day Two Of Pre-Op Diet - And Feeling Miserable :(

Day two of the pre-op diet is drawing to a close and I'm miserable. I have a nasty headache, I've eaten dinner and I am still hungry, I feel kind of nauseated and I am grumpy. Not good. I had to do a pizza run for the volunteers painting the church and it was HELL. Ordering all that pizza and picking it up...not a good feeling.

I am trying to put it into perspective...it's just food, you control it blah blah blah...but for some reason I think i am wallowing in my misery. I have to snap out of it...but am not sure how. I am extraordinarily tired too which I attribute to coming off the sugar.

Can I ask anyone out there already sleeved - is this is what life is like forever? Do you get the headaches, nausea and grumpiness forever?

Starting to have second thoughts...which surprises the hell outta me. I've been so confident - but if this is the reality I am not sure I am ready :(

I am 5 weeks post op. And no I dont have headaches or nausea. The pre op diet is hard, however after day 3 it gets better. Hang in there it is worth it in the long run.

I had a headach for about 3 days, it got easier!!! I think the second thoughts are how many times have we tried to diet and never worked.... That was my biggest fear, that this would not work for me!!......... I got over it by reading all the stories I could about sleeve and the positive side. The pictures, how happy people are now. That in 5 months or so you can eat "normal" if you wanna call it that but just very small portions!!!

Good Luck!!

It's a journey well worth your time pre-op diet was supper hard for me but I pushed pasted it by not surrounding myself around food I didn't even cook for my family that week before surgery!

Day 3 will be easier and drink lot's of hot tea or hot brooth it really helped me. Life will ge better I'm post-op two months and it's an amazing feeling to be able to walk two miles and not stop every 15 to 20 steps to catch your breath!

It will get better and good luck with your journey!

Sounds like detoxing - aka the carb flu, which is horrid and why it is so hard for us to stop eating them. I am not sure what kind of pre-op your surgeon has you doing (mine was Atkins induction with clears 24 hours prior to surgery) but it gets better. Just remember to drink as much non-caloric fluid as you can get in ( I highly recommend chugging, as you will not be able to have the opportunity to do this again for a long time - I can do a mini-chug now at 3 months post op.) The fluids always seemed to make me feel better.

Just remember the purpose of the pre-op diet - to shrink your liver for optimal surgery results with fewer complications - soon enough you will be on the other side!

I know how you feel. I hated doing the the pre-op diet too, at day one. I was frustrated, hungry, and started to switch to decaf coffee, which led to the next several days of headaches due to the caffeine withdrawal I was having. It is hard and frustrating, and I gave up several times thinking it may not be worth it. I kept talking with WLS surgery folks who have had it, there's at least one in my office, and the talks helped a lot. It helped greatly to log into 'Myfitnesspal.com' and keep a food diary. The conscious effort helped keep me in focus and concentrate on keeping my eye on the prize. There were plenty of over eating days, but you let that go and start over again. I wish you the best and hope you'll be able to get there.

I had to do 2 weeks preop diet of liquids only. I felt HORRIBLE for the first 3-4 days, but it got much better by day 5. I was sleeved on July 2nd and have only had 2 headaches since...totally work related, I'm sure. Hang in there, once all of those toxins are out of your body, you should feel much better.

I think you're right! Thank you so much! I only have to do this pre-op diet for two weeks so I know intellectually I can do it, but wow it's hard :) Feel a little better today though so hopefully things will get easier :) Thanks for your kind response!

Thanks - I think you're right. It probably is just the rubbish being flushed out of my system. I am feeling a little better today so hopefully it willget a bit easier from here!
