Food Hoarder Discovery

Patience is a virtue...

I have discovered something about myself...

I go to the grocery store every week and buy food for myself and my family. I started running out of room in my cabinets for the food I bought. So I realized, after awhile, that I am hoarding food!!! I have been losing weight at a good rate since my lapband in March 2012 but I am always looking for new things that I can eat. I get it home~try it and can't eat it~no one else in the house wants it~so it sits in the cabinet to expire. So I buy all this crap I don't need and can't eat while the grocery store makes money! Now that I can't eat what I used to eat I am substituting my lack of fattening foods with SHOPPING; go figure. The realization "smacked" me in the face one day that I am holding onto foods that I can't eat and it fills some kind of void. I buy it and take it home and let it sit in my cabinets!!!

I DO THE SAME EXACT THING!!! So what are you doing to stop the process? I swear if I am not buying some new low carb, low fat, diet-whatever, just so I have variety to eat.. (which I never eat... most often I eat soup)!!!(I'm almost 3 months post op) then I am buying stuff to make some incredible dinner for my husband.. which is stupid cause if I fed him manwich everyday he would be happy. He doesn't care about fancy crap. Now my pantry is overflowing with food that will probably never get eaten, I would donate it to the food bank, but do they really want mediteranean quinoa?? lol

Get rid of it ladies! I did this in the beginning. I would surf the bariatric sites looking for new things to purchase, vitamins, protein shakes, protein chips, protein bars, powdered peanut butter and the list goes on and on. A couple of months ago my hubby says to me, why can't you just cook like everyone else and we have something normal. I had to smile, as i innocently looked up at him and said What you don;t like the quinoa I made. It is full of protein and it is good for you. Yes Diane but guess what you can only eat a 1/4 cup and we have to eat the rest of it because you also don;t do left overs. All I could say was, Oh!. So I stopped, I realized I was hoarding food that I would never eat and my family was not going to eat. I took it to the local food pantry. Hopefully someone will appreciate my healthy food.

My new habit is the gift shop at work, they have payroll deduction and some really cute stuff, I just hope I don't have to pay them to work in couple of months. ;-_)
