Taking my own advice....*caution this is a bit of an overshare*

I have often told those dieting or making an effort to lose weight to be sure they DON'T weigh themselves daily. This habit becomes obsessive and can be disappointing. I really need to take my own advise.

I woke up this morning anxious to see the scale move down another pound again... I got on the scale.. I was .8 from it moving... frustrated I remembered what the skinny girls I used to work with would go on and on about.. "Oh I never weigh myself until after I have a BM, it makes such a HUGE difference." Hmmm works for them, may work for me. I go about my day..... and the time comes.. after I run and get on the scale now .6 away from the scale moving down... "Hmmm poop sure doesn't weigh very much does it?!?!?" I think to myself.

A few minutes later I'm having an over share moment and I'm talking to a friend of mine who has the same weight loss struggles I do, we laugh about how different it must be when skinny girls poop cause she had tried the same thing and had the same result I had. We've decided all of their fat is stored in their intestines and that's why they always look thin, but evidently have REALLY heavy poo.

My day continues and another BM comes...ok now THIS...THIS has got to make the difference.. I run and jump on the scale .1 from the scale moving... Are you kdding me?!?!!??! Ok I give up.. I give up.... I'll stop for the day. I end up taking a nap and waking up to have a dinner of black bean burgers and hummus, water and a small glass of organic soy milk.

I decide to weigh myself again... I gained .7 that can't be right... I get a call and forget about it... a couple of hours later.. I'm on the scale again... WHAT?!??!?! HOW COULD I HAVE GAINED 3LBS?!?!?!??!?!?!

So the moral of the story is, dont' weigh yourself everyday and if you do make sure it's at the same time everyday but don't stress if it goes up or doesn't move because our weight fluxuates by a few pounds through out the day and there's absolutely NOTHING we can do about it.. also we tend to weigh more at night, as we're water and just as the ocean tide is effected by the moon, so are we. I know all of this, I've done the research for YEARS and yet I think I was becoming addicted to the high of seeing the scale go down every day.....today was a reality check and reminder to TAKE MY OWN ADVICE!

The only time to weigh yourself and get a true weight is 1st thing in the morning after you've gone to the bathroom before you've eaten. Your weight changes thoughout the day based on what you eat and drink.

I refuse to keep a scale in the house. Because I would do this.

I love this entry because I'm a total scale whore. I will not get myself to not weigh every day, but I am much better about not stressing about the daily results. It works for some and not others, but you have your own healthy relationship with your scale (even if that means not having one!) :)

You crack me up!! I am a scale whore that is for sure...daily, totally naked, first thing in the morning must pee first but right after that. I have done the poop test as well and was completely surprised/deflated on how little it weighed!! Only one day did I weigh all day but that was because I read a posting like this and the poor girl was devastated about her gain so I thought I would try it to see...I kept telling myself to beware that I was going to have an increase throughout the day and sure enough I did...at that moment I said never again!! I am pretty strict about my scale..it cannot be moved..it has to stay in the same spot..pretty hard with having a 3 yr old. He has his own scales to "play" with but as he is getting older and "understanding"...it is getting better. Maybe it really is because I am at goal and I don't have to worry about losing an ounce today?? Take care and now I wonder what your next post will be about...hmmm

I'm in scale whore rehab... I've weighed 3 times today.... same result... I'll call it RESEARCH lol

Funny I went my first banded year never weighing at home but only during my monthly band appts. Now... now.. ugh... I'm on this fast I can SEE and FEEL the results and I'm addicted to it, like i need the gratification of seeing the weight come off to keep me on track.

I weigh myself every morning when I first wake up, naked, after I sprinkle and before I eat. I have a spreadsheet of my weights I'm a complete scale whore lol. But the spreadsheet helps me see my weight loss patterns. I MIGHT occasionally weigh myself after a run just to see that lower number haha! I SO have done the whole OMG I have to weigh less after a BM lol I love seeing other people do the same thing. It's so funny how we get excited just to be down 0.1!

Yvette, your post was so funny, and came at the perfect time for me!! I went to Target and got a brand new scale yesterday (the expensive one!) Haven't had one for a couple of years, because denial is easier that way. Well I waited until this morning to unwrap the scale and weigh myself, stepped on and it said I weighed 350 pounds, which scared the daylights out of me, because I knew I couldn't have gained nearly 100 pounds since I was weighed at the doctor's office last week . . . I stepped back on again and it said I weighed 130 pounds . . . IN MY DREAMS!!! Defective scale . . . I got a dramatically different number ever time I got on. Finally made my husband get on . . . it said "error" . . . lol!! I will be returning the "expensive" scale today and settling for the cheap one that works.
