My surgeon does not take my insurance...what?!!!

After 2 office visits with Dr. Cooperstone and completing all of the required "studies" I was told that he does not take my insurance. I was informed when I called today to follow-up with the progress of approval by the insurance company. She said "Your insurance has not responded". I said "When should I follow up?" She placed me on hold then said "Dr. Cooperstone does not accept your insurance." Oh, I cried my heart out. Luckily, another surgeon in that office said he accepted my insurance. I am able to keep my surgery date for November 9, 2009. I feel more comfortable with Dr. Gohil too. I haven't meet him but I have a good feeling.

It's impossible to get the lap-band unless you really want because the process is so discouraging.

I hear you on the process being discouraging. They sure don't make it easy and I'm sure this process (all the varied processes depending on the varied insurance companies) does turn away quite a number of people!

Everything happens for a reason. So while it may never be clear what that reason is, maybe Dr. Gohil is the best option. That's very cool that you get to keep the same surgery date! I wish you the best!

Hi Idswims

Thank you for your encouragement. This is certainly the year that I've learned that "Everything [does] happen for a reason"!

I meet my surgeon tomorrow. I can't wait. It's a 2 hour commute but I will be there!

I am glad it is working out for you. Insurance is such a problem. They take our premiums then hold us hostage. Good luck. Mary.
