Back on board

I'm going to crank up my LB process again: talk with my GP on Mon., call the bariatric surgeon's office next week and see what my new insurance company requires. (My company changed insurance carriers in Jan.) I am nervous for several reasons one of which is my employer had layoffs (300 people) in April so I don't want to be out of work for more than 2 weeks max. Will update next week after I get more info.

It's me again

I haven't posted since November. Still having neck and back pain. My job/employer is talking about layoffs or pay cuts so this is not the year to have surgery. I haven't been to a support group since December. I need to get on a program, not sure where to go. I did manage to lose 10 pounds in November due to a stomach virus and maintained that loss through the holidays, etc. My birthday is in May and I would like to be 10 pounds thinner, and down to 200 pounds by Labor Day. Those are my goals.

November updates

I've decided to research GBS. I'm scheduled to attend a class in November. I want to compare both procedures.   Also, I have a family history of RA and other autoimmune disease (like lupus) and worry about a lapband triggering autoimmune disease?

Heading into October

I've been researching WLS for a couple of weeks, still new to the game. I've been to two support groups, one surgeon appt., one LB class. And I still have a lot of questions. Spending a lot of time on this website, learning from others, helping others (with my minimal knowledge of the actual LB process). I still have a lot of questions about having WLS at all, restrictive (LB) vs. malsabsorptive procedure (like RNY). I think I am going to call my surgeon's office and ask to sit in on the RNY class. I want as much info as possible. I have six months to decide, plus or minus a few weeks...

Second WLS support group meeting

Went to my second WLS support group meeting for the town I live in. Speaker was a local psychologist. I might ask him to do my psych eval.   My hands and neck are bothering me. I have a large herniated disc in my C3, and C4-6 are also affected. My PCP saw me today and was concerned that the neurosurgeon didn't think I needed surgery. I will have PT later this month and see how that goes.   I am still unsure whether I should have WLS, and also whether I should choose LB vs. another procedure. I am reading as much info as I can and asking as many questions. I have 6 months for the insurance pre-req so I won't have surgery until Feb. at the earliest.

Tomorrow's consult visit with dr

Tomorrow, 9/12/08, I meet with the dr. who will do my LB surgery. I've been reading alot about LB including this website. I can't get in my head how I will eat after the surgery as I crave carbs a lot, especially during the winter months. I am also trying to prepare for the Dr's questions about why LB vs. GB. I've seen several other LB posts whose stats are similar to mine and have lost the amt of weight I want to lose (100 lbs.) More to follow tomorrow...
