Hello all! My name is Alicia, I am in Richmond, VA and I was banded at St. Mary's Hospital on July 15 by Dr. David Elliott who is a doctor in the Richmond Surgical Group. I weighed 300 lbs going into this thing and I hope to drop at least 100 lbs. I am 5'10'' so I'm fairly tall, but just weigh too much.

Now that all of that is out of the way, I must say that the worse part of this is the gas. I mean I can hear the gas rumbling through my stomach and it is quite unnerving. Im new to this whole forum thing but I have alot of questions.:confused2:

Hi Alicia, you've come to the the right place to get all your questions answered. I also am going to Richmond Surgical Group but with Dr. Brengman. My band date is Sep. 4th. Good luck, and I hope the gas pains ease up for you soon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I'm going to call the doctor in the morning. I just don't feel like this is successful for me. Also, I believe I'm lactose intolerant and everything they have offered me....has lactose. There has got to be a better way. I just feel bloated and my scale says that I weigh more now than when I went into the hospital. I'm following the diet to a t, but i feel no success.

Hello Alicia...congrats on your banding...the gas will go away after a couple of days...just take some liquid gas-x..it really does help...I tried the gas-x strips, but they didn't work as well....take your meds and just try to relax...the soreness and gas pains will go away...and you will feel much better...hang in there...it is a great journey...

I was banded the 14th of July, and still don't feel great, but each day does get better. Give it more time.

I also was surprised to find that I weighed five pounds more after the surgery. I was lucky to have found this site and realized that was normal. The gas will pass :wub:

Three days later and I have lost that extra 5 pounds.

I also cannot drink milk, and went with Soy milk. It tastes great. I add chocolate soy protein and have a delicous chocolate shake.:thumbup:

Hi Everyone,

I too am new to the site, I just got banded a week ago today, July 11th! So far I feel great...stitches and staples still hurt but I've adjusted and figured out how to sleep! I'm back to work today, but find that sitting in a chair is uncomfortable-I'm squirming alot---standing and walking no problem. So far I've lost 9 lbs in 7 days....seems too good to be true! I'd love to talk to others, maybe someone out there is on the same time line as I am.

ahhh Im glad you mentioned about the weight thing. I have been on clear fluids only for 4 days now and I was banded wednesday I got on the scale and it said the same as it did before I banded. I was losing a pound a day before the surgery... So Im glad to hear that will go away :thumbup: With me its not so much the Gas pains it the port pain.. That cut is the biggest one and I feel like it will rip out my stomach. It also burns. But anyways thats my gripe

:thumbup: Had surgery on Tues 15th July and I am up at 3:20am to try to figure out how to get rid of the gas and incision pain. I feel so bloated and have sharp gas pain all the way up to my left shoulder. I have been walking ( mostly in house), and take Gas-x chewables. The first day I thought I was lucky and didn't get the gas pains. I feel like it is worsening each day. Like Emily111 I also have a burning/stinging pain at the port incision. So when I move it burns and burns. I feel miserable. How long did it take most of you to get over the gas from the lap pain??:confused2::hurt:I feel like I am going to pop!

U are going to feel bloated for a few weeks... the gas is bad as hell.... i didn't know it was going to be as bad as it was... it has to work its way out.. I popped gax-x chewables like skittles and it seemed like it didnt work at all but it finally worked itself out.. also if u are not taking any Fiber start because your bowels will have to get back to normal.. One thing i will say is that is why i only step on the scale once every other week and record my weight loss once a month because your weight will go up and or down depending on your bowel movements.. and Fluid intake.. so ignore that and just know this is the beginning of a new life for u....

walking helps with gas and also peppermint tea...anything is worth a try. I am not looking forward to the gas pain part when I have my surgery but I am prepared for it.

Okay, after reading these post in the early morning I headed out to the mall this morning. I walked for at least 30 mins with my husband. Then I headed to walmart and got "Titralac plus antacid". Very hard to find and I gave up at first then there is was in a little White plastic with a yellow top and blue and light green labeling. My husband who never can find anything found it. I was so glad. I took 2 once I got in the car. Chewable and not bad tasting. It has been about 1 hr and I am feeling better. NOt 100% but not miserable. U can take 2 every 2-3 hrs. I will be taking 2 more very soon. Gas-X did not work for me at all. I also got Lactaid and Maloxx just incase. My doctor was specific on titralac but we couldn't find it before. Then the pain came and as you can see I took action. I will be walking again tonight. Don't feel like it but the pain has me motivated. It is Sugar-Free and the pharmacist said it was "non-magnesium" unlike the others but I don't know what that means. However, I can say I feel it is working for me. Good luck! It is very painful to deal with so for those who haven't had surgery yet be sure to get what you need.

You all have been such an encouragement. I'm now about 10 days post op and feel completely normal. No more gas pains (I used the infant gas drops...works wonders, immediately). My stomach swelling has gone down. In fact, I'm on mushy foods now and Im doing ok.

At this point, it is about making decisions about what food to eat and distinguishing "head" hunger from actual hunger. Like, sometimes I'll think that "oh, its been 5hrs since I've eaten and I only ate 4 oz of food, I've got to be hungry." But then my stomach still felt satisfied. I know they have pre op psych evaluations but I definitely think it's a good idea to have one afterwards, too. But, that's also why we have each other. This is like one great big therapy group!! LOL

I noticed that we had surgery 1 day apart.. we almost have the same start weight and the same goal weight and we both lost 16 pounds so far :thumbup: I thought that was funny.

That is awesome that we are in about the same place in our journey. I would love to keep in touch and see how we are both progressing. It is always nice to compare with someone similar in journey's.
