Hey girl,

The only first hand point of reference I have about loose skin is my girlfriend that has had a gastric bypass. She has gone from a size 22 to an 8. She is two years out and looks great! I asked her about loose skin and she says that it is not an issue.

She has had c section birth but says the loose skin on her stomach is not an issue. I have seen her in short sleeves, knee shorts and knit shirts and I can tell you-homegirl looks good.

What's her secret? Exercise. She has been exercising from day one. I plan on following her example.

Also,I have been thinking that a good moisturizer from day one will probably help. At first I thought pure cocoa butter but then it hit me---pure shea butter. You know the clumpy kind? Maybe mix it with an essential so that it won't smell bad. Maybe some Vitamin e as well. So I plan on rubbing down with my concoction everyday. Maybe we could do like a test group amongst ourselves for a few months and collect data on how it works?

Hi Ladies:

Since I have not been banded, maybe I should not answer, but I think the issue of lose skin depends on your age and how much weight you drop. I have girlfriend who had the bypass and she was in her 50's, as I am, and she had lots of lose skin on her tummy and hanging breast. :) she ended up having a breast lift and Tummy tuck and looks great. That extra skin didn't keep her from meeting a wonderful man and they recently married (her 1st serious relationship), I am just so happy for her.

So, I do expect that I will have the lose skin problem. That is a small correctable problem to regain my health.

Well I have not been banded yet. The sista who is my wight loss advocate had the procedure over four years ago. She lost 120 pounds and she said that she had very little issue with loos skin. Just a bit on the back of her arms.

I know our skin can adjust and endure some things better than others, but I am worried about loose skin around my tummy and the back of my arms. So I am planning on having some things returned to there correct place if it becomes an issue.

Travel lady, I agree that age and total weight loss will influence how much loose skin you have. My friend is in her forties though. I think individual factors will influence the loose skin issue but genetically our skin is more resilient to sun, age, etc. Medical fact. However, as we loose the weight we have got to exercise and moisturize as preventative measures. southern girl I am with u! I had a c section birth and so I already know that I am gonna get tucked!

I've also not been banded, but figure if we work out while the weight is falling off we should be okay, well at least that is what I'm planning. THink about it the people on The Biggest Loser is losing over 100Lbs and they look good because they are working out all the time. I have a Wii Fit (very fun) and also just joined Baleys so I'm going to get my work out all the time.

well im praying very hard for my skin after having 5 kids my arms tend to just hang in there like buff legs off a migit! yeah and the oldest child is 20 the youngest is 12 so if they been hanging around all this time i dont know about getting rid of them im just gonna keep on weight lifting (small amount) and do what i can give it a yr or 2 if not gone or at least sum great change then surgery here i come. my stomache is ok its shrinking i can tell my legs are ok as well but these big mama thro backs, hummm well as stated keep me in prayer!.. love ya'll

I would love to be a part of the control group! I have been banded and have been thinking a lot about loose skin, for me it may not be a problem the first 50 pounds but what about after that? That to me is a complete unknown... I think I need to invest in a vat of coco butter, so far it has helped my scars tremendously.

lana, have u tried raw shea butter? It has a really nutty and earthy smell so u have to mix it with a nice smelling oil. Its the truth for real
