Do protein drinks make you...

We are trying samples before the consults and i tried a roadside lemonade last night. it tasted very good, but in the night and this morning i have had cramping and diareaha. I was wondering if this is a side effect of the protein drinks or if something else might be causing this. thanks

Protein diets generally constipate people, so maybe there was something else in it that either didn't agree with you or did you eat something that day that just didn't agree with you?

Our doctors office is real big on the protein drinks, so how do you survive the pre op and afterwards if this is what happens? Just curious, cause I was up all night.:)

Well, I've got to say that I have a Protein shake every day (and if lacking, twice a day) and I would hardly say I have that problem!! Au contraire!!

Now I use the powdered (belgian chocolate) whey protein isolate (not the canned garbage) and I mix it with Water.

No clue but all I can say is that I've never found it to be the case with me...:)

Holy cow, you are not kidding! Today is my first day on shakes, or as I like to refer to them "pis@*ng-out-my-as*-juice. My surgery was this passed Wednesday, I thought I was done with the rough stuff

Do remember the phrase "Liquids in , Liquids out" if you are only doing liquids. I have a protein shake 3-4 times a week, I have the opposite problem now. Before banding I used to go 3-4 times a day, now once every couple days usually.

:embaressed_smile:I am wondering if I should call the er number because I have the runs really bad. I drank a protien shake trying to get in some protien on day4 post -op. I am not sure if I should drink those shakes again. I cannot stop going to the bathroom. Please forgive the graphics but I need some suggestions. What other ways can I get protien in during this first two weeks?

I am pretty sure they call it Ensure because it will ensure a BM. I love the taste of the Strawberry and the 13 g of protein, but 30 minutes after I start one I am guaranteed a healthy bathroom visit. It is not exactly diahrea (sp?) for me, so I drink one about every other day.

It must just have different effects on everybody. The clean me out, but my husband hasnt noticed a difference. We are trying Nectar samples from Vitalady.com and so far they have been very good, except the fuzzy navel.

Chocolate milk out the back side for three weeks now. It has "firmed up" some what now that I am on mushies. You are in for one hell of a ride. Use mylanta to help with the gas pains. Mine were horrible!

My doctor reccomended Slim Fast low carb and I haven't had any issues with them at all and I've been on them for about six weeks now.

WOW - I only thought I don't like chocolate milk before reading that. Now I know I don't like it. Everytime I see chocolate milk from now on I will think of that staement :) . Have you got any other food related word pictures you can paint for me?

Every time I've EVER had Protein shakes, they've given me the trots, no matter what brand I've tried. I think it's either the sweetener, or the type of protein, or who knows.

Jenlev67, I haven't laughed that hard in weeks. Thanks for that! LOL!
