I'm new to this site and wow! people seem to know so much and really have a handle on drinking all 64 oz and no problems with the two-week pre-op diet. Are people really this perfect? How am I going to be able to do all this? There just seems to be so much to take in..... do this, don't do that, start a food journal, Protein, more protein, take Calcium but not with multi vit, drink Water, but not before meals, yadda yadda yadda. Feeling overwhelmed.

pretty much everybody has trouble with the two-week diet. It's hell. The worst part of the whole ordeal, IMHO. The rest of it comes eventually - I pretty much do all that other stuff on auto-pilot, and have for a long time (and yes - it's overwhelming at first, but you get used to it pretty fast)

I believe you are not alone...some research this for years, some months, etc. I remember feeling overwhelmed at times. Finally, my solution was:

1.) Create a binder and put all of your material in there, tabs if they help. Having all info in one known location simplifies.

2.) Yes. Read, Read, Read, make notes on topics important to you. Then, use the search line on this site and you’ll find others have likely had same concern.

3.) When you feel that overwhelmed coming on, break things into small parts and focus on what you need to do first.

No, I have not heard of one perfect person on this board. Learning, being prepared, doing your absolute best, listen to and question your surgeon, you will do fine!

I know what you mean. My response was trying to read everything I could get ahold of. BUT try to keep it simple at first. I still keep a food journal which ive included a pic of. Note that it's not very detailed...but for me it's being honest with myself and aware of what im doing and feeling. I am so far from perfect that i wonder why i am still losing weight considering how much "crap" I am eating right now.

Thanks, everyone, I feel better. I'm going to try and break it down into manageable changes, one or two things at a time. Yes, a journal, a simple chart and/or a binder are good ideas. Something tangible to keep track rather than just in my head.

Going Rouge!

Not that I am the poster child but i have had great success with WLS. I think that is way to much bully poop to do! I took this approach. I know what i did wrong and I know what i have to do To finish this journey

1. I drink as much Water as i can to be comfortable, stay hydrated I never have counted ounces

2. I eat as little as possible but eat healthy, I do not have any apps or journals, I just eat right small portions.

3. I only weigh myself twice a month, then average the two per month

4. I really focus on the Vitamins, Minerals and Good clean health choices

5. I hired a Nutritionist to handle the weekly menu, but i do not weigh anything - Common sense on portion and food choices will work

6. I spend my time working out and moving not logging some dang app or journal.

Just my view so do not get all wrapped up in the Journey bottom iine cut your calories and work out and keep your vits and minerals and supplements on track - You will shred the weight!

FYI i am a male and have no desire to do the paperwork and misc stuff

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
